Great location, great view and great brandy old fashions!! During our weekend stay in Trivers, we wanted a good Friday fish fry, after doing some research this place consistently was recommended. Sadly we were disappointed. We both ordered the haddock and it was glorified fish sticks. Perfectly rectangular shaped, maybe half an inch thick, set off red flags for us as we got our plates. They tasted rubbery and not fresh at all. Wouldn't be surprised if they were frozen. In hind sight, we probably should have gotten the perch instead. That may have been a fresh (and possibly caught locally). read more

I came here for breakfast on a stormy Tuesday morning. I got there as they were opening and chose a table by the window with a fantastic view of Lake Michigan. The waitress greeted me with a smile and asked if I wanted coffee. As I sipped on the coffee and browsed the menu, I enjoyed a nice view of an angry lake splashing on the shore. I decided on the Salmon Cakes Benedict. This is two grilled house-made salmon cakes topped with poached eggs and lemon dill hollandaise, served with hashbrowns. I opted for scrambled eggs instead of poached and the hollandaise sauce on the side. This was not a problem. The salmon cakes were excellent. Soft, moist, and packed with flavor, these cakes needed very little sauce. I'm glad I ordered the sauce on the side. The eggs were cooked perfectly and complimented the salmon cakes nicely. Waitstaff friendly and on top of things. It's an older place but clean. Bathroom for women ridiculously tight to get into any stall even for my kids. But, was clean. Parking was easy with lots of stalls. Right down a bit from Neshotah Beach. Soda was nice and bubbly. Then it gets dicey. Ordered my burger medium well and was cooked very, very well done. Asked for onions and tomatoes and got 3 large tomatoes and barely any onions. My daughter's omelette was meh. Didn't look like most restaurants omelettes. Hard to explain. And the creamy coleslaw the menu said was not creamy at all and very interesting taste wise. Finally, my other child's over easy eggs were over hard and no runny yolk at all. That being said after a long day at the beach we were just happy to get something to eat. If you are looking for great service but not necessarily great food this may be your place. lol read more

This restaurant is located inside the Lighthouse Inn. The decor seems to be a little outdated, but for an older hotel, it fits. We stopped in for breakfast. There were a few people inside, and we were seated right away. There are large windows with awesome views of Lake Michigan, so we were treated to a great view. Upon reviewing the menu, I decided on the omlet special. This included a cheese omlet, hashbrowns, and toast. After a while, our food came out, and everything looked so good. The omlet was fluffy, and the cheese was gooey and melted perfectly. The hashbrowns were nice and crispy. My only complaint was that the toast was soggy, like it wasn't in the toaster long enough. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The views are great and the service was good. We will be back to try other menu items. read more

We wanted a fish fry on a Friday during lent and thought we would try this place. Haddock was 4 very small pieces that looked like fish sticks. However, the perch was a nice portion. The small bread loaves were very good and the sides were ok. It is way overpriced. It cost the two of us over $80 with a tip and we didn't have any alcohol. We are sure the lake view is beautiful in the daytime, but once it gets dark outside you can't see the lake out of the windows. Completely black. It would be nice if they put some lights between the rocks along the shoreline. Lots of cheaper options for fish fries with bigger food portions in the area. read more

During our visit to Manitowoc my husband and I wanted to eat where the locals enjoy good food. He saw the Water's Edge Restaurant the first day we arrived. We were there for lunch on our second day. I enjoyed the decor. It brought back memories of eating out as a child of the 70's and 80's. The decor may be dated, but the restaurant was clean. Which in my book is more important. We went with a recommendation on Yelp. We split a patty melt with homemade chips and the French Onion soup. Everything was delicious! My husband even commented- "You ate the pickle spear. You never eat the pickle spear." Our server was wonderful! She was very attentive and helpful with any questions we had. Several reviews mentioned not being satisfied with the service due to various reasons. We did not experience any issues during our 1:00ish Tuesday afternoon lunch. It is my understanding this is a local family owned and operated business. During today's craziness I encourage all of us to choose to support these type of local businesses. read more

The staff, especially Sam, went above and beyond to accommodate our party of 20 people on a recent Sunday brunch. We had reservations and coordinated early for our event. Much to our pleasure and surprise, we were seated in the "upper bar" area. It was semi private with a breathtaking view of Lake Michigan. The servers were attentive and friendly. We had a reasonable amount of wait time for our large group, but when the food arrived, it was hot, correct, and delicious. Sam even help serve the cake we were allowed to bring in. I ordered their signature dish, "Great Lakes Parmesan Baked Whitefish," which the menu describes as "Great Lakes whitefish drizzled with lemon and Chablis, topped with savory seasonings and shredded double-aged Parmesan cheese." My entree was okay but it did not taste freshly prepared. My Missus ordered the braised beef short rib. It was tender and juicy, but on the bland side. Salad and rolls (included) were very good. I remember staying there about 20 years ago. With our Entree', they gave us a Fresh and hot tiny loaf of Bread, and a Salad!! The Bread was so good....I asked for a second loaf. They actually gave me one! But they do not apparently have that great of service anymore. We stayed for two nights there a couple of Months ago, and paid WAY too much for the meal we got the first Night. NO Bread or Salad anymore......the second Night.....we went to the "Subway" in Town.....and ate our Sandwiches in our room. The Food we got, indeed was excellent........but REALLY miss the "fringe" things, that SHOULD come with an Entree'!!! It used to be more of a "Supper Club" type of atmosphere. I had the extreme misfortune to have Easter lunch there today. My brother took me and I was embarrassed for him and outraged at the exorbitant price for the extremely poor quality food which we were served. I had asked for the two piece chicken and only received one piece. ($18). I was thankful about this as it was as dry as the Atacama Desert and as tough as tanned cow hide and no pleasant taste or flavor. The sage so over powered the dressing that you seemed to forget that it was a pile of pasty mush, that coupled with the equally cold mashed potatoes and even colder extremely small bowl of uncooked vegetable mess that was missing the promised cheese sauce which would have possibly given them the only flavor they might have had. We were given three completely dried out rolls with no butter. Really? At this price! The meal included a paltry salad bar which when we went through, we had to scrape the bowl to get even a few leaves of white wilted lettuce. The rest of the containers were equally empty and so I'm not sure what was in the three containers in this unbelievably sparse so called "salad" bar. And to top off this over priced fiasco, one large plate with four diminutive squares cut from some bars was served for what they were calling desert for the both of us. Not plated on individual plates. We were both supposed to eat off just one plate? We didn't even do that at home growing up. What kind of establishment does this? This whole meal was one gigantic joke. I had to walk on when my brother paid as I was fuming for him to have paid so much for this inedible swill. This was my first (and last!) time at this place. You only get one time for a first impression and I do not think there would have been any way that you could have made a worse one! read more

What an adorable little place! I absolutely loved the harbor theme inside. Lots of fun decor that really fit. The view from our breakfast table was breathtaking. I'm not from the area, but was visiting with a friend over the weekend and she let me pick our brunch spot. I ordered the country biscuit platter, which came with 2 eggs and 2 biscuits with gravy. The gravy was very obviously homemade, and tasted delicious! The biscuits were flaky, and the eggs were scrambled to my liking. Overall a very fun place and if I am back in the area for breakfast I plan to return. read more

Very good, 70s, Supper Club food hidden within the Lighthouse Hotel. It's a nice, quiet stopover populated by locals for lunch and a great breakfast spot right on the lake. Look beyond the outdated exterior...you'll be surprised by the marine motif which gets less creepy as you go in. The staff are just wonderful. The French onion soup is awesome. Have a Rueben or Patty Melt with homemade potato chips. read more

If we could rate lower than a one, we would. This is by far the WORST restaurant I have ever been to, and as a traveler, I have been to a few mediocre restaurants. Waters Edge really puts those to peace. First, the service was terrible. Our waiter took our drinks order and we waited nearly forty minutes to get all six of them. They asked if we wanted refills, and we did not get them within our two and a half hour stay. Yup. Two and a half hours, from the moment we sat down to when we got our check. We only had our food for about fifteen minutes before we decided to eat elsewhere. The fish tasted and looked as if it were cooked a week ago and thrown into the oven to be warmed up. No tartar was offered and we had to ask multiple times for it. The Ultimate Nachos were soggy and the cheese wasn't even warm. One of our members didn't even get her food and we had to reorder it for her. After all this trouble and asking to talk with the manager about our dissatisfaction, she didn't even bother to stop and talk to us. She saw that we were frustrated and smiled at us. This place is not worth your money if you want quality food and service. read more

We really liked it, had clam chowder and it was great. Then the salad was fine and dressings homemade and yummy. We ordered the meatloaf which came with root vegetables and both super tasty. We also had stuffed sole and it was fresh and delicious. Green beans are fresh and not canned a very pleasant surprise. Service was fast, friendly and attentive. After reading reviews we lowered our expectations but came anyway. Monday lots of places are closed so we came here. Very happy with our meal and service. I have to go 5 stars. Excellent view also. It wasn't over exerting anything, it was sooo good. I had the salmon cakes, super freaking awesome, and the cucumber/ dill sauce was awesome. Salad, super fresh. The featured whitefish parm, it actually wasn't my favorite. A little dry and too much parm and not toasty, like just melted only. Then the caramel apple pie... so good! Sporadic service at best. We have eaten here on several occasions when we stay at the Lighthouse Inn. This place really is hit or miss depending on the server and who is working in the kitchen. On today's visit, we were seated at 8:25 am and asked if we wanted coffee. After answering yes, we received coffee in 5 mins (not bad) with the waitress saying she would be back in a minute to take our order. 25 minutes later and a different waiter came for our order. In that time 4 other tables were seated, orders taken and served. 25 minutes later we received our breakfast and started to eat. Bacon was cold, poached eggs were solid all the way through and nobody stopped back to see how our meal was. Finished breakfast. Waited another 20 minutes for a waitstaff to stop by with the bill. No show. Went to the cashier and asked to see a manager. Turns out the manager was the first waitress who served coffee and disappeared. She couldn't explain why breakfast took 90 minutes or why other tables were turning over with regularity. She did say they were short a busboy, which was relevant how? She did comp the meal but could not make eye contact with me to simply say "I am sorry. This is not the kind of service we pride ourselves on," or something to that effect. Two stars may be too generous. Try the Two Rivers Family Restaurant instead. Using the Lighthouse Inn discount meal tickets is not worth it. read more

Awful service. We were NEVER greeted. Not busy and we still stood and waited for host for over 10 minutes. My kids even commented on how we should maybe just leave. The view is beautiful (we saw pelicans, herons, sparrows, a 13 lined ground squirrel!) and the staff are so friendly and helpful! AND the food is delicious!!! Came for breakfast this morning. It was busy but only waited 13 mins for a table. We were shown our table and waited and waited. No one came, no one even stopped by to say they would be right with us. No coffee was offered. After 15 minutes we left. I saw one server on the upper level bringing food to a table and one person bussing tables on the upper level. If you don't have enough staff to serve the entire restaurant, then don't sit the entire restaurant. read more

Tourist place. Beware of some of the dishes that might not be as fresh as they should be. This is a seafood restaurant there for some of the seafood that was served to me was on the verge of spoiling or head spoiled. The atmosphere is of an old age home. Hostess was a ghost With no personality and no people skills. They obviously ran out of shrimp and I ordered a cold shrimp and crab cocktail. I was served hot newly boiled past expiration shrimp and one flake of imitation crab meat over some cocktail sauce. Their net cost could not have been more than three dollars that they charge an exorbitant amount. The chef obviously was not prepared I did not have any shrimp cocktail Or cooked shrimp available. Everything else was fried to a crisp and nothing tasted fresh. On my way home from the Stein experience I stopped at a Walgreens to get some medications because I know a bellyache was on its way. We stopped here to have lunch while just passing through. I googled best place with a view in the area and this one came up first. When we walked in the manager told us they had just closed. We were disappointed and asked about alternatives. As we were discussing this, the manager, Jim, came back and said he had talked to the chef and if we wanted to sit and order a sandwich it would be ok. Jim waited on us himself. We both got the Reuben and it was excellent. We really appreciate the extra effort Jim and the chef went to on our behalf. We aren't from this area but if we were we would be regular customers.
