One of my favorite places, amazing food, fun atmosphere love the decor right and clean. There is nothing here that doesn't taste delicious.

My girlfriend treated me out to La Carreta this past weekend for breakfast. Place was packed to the brim and requested a smaller table to be cleaned so we can sit there. We both ordered their Huevos con Chile Verde. For a $16 dish, the portions were on the smaller side but the flavor packed a punch! I know it's an egg dish with chile verde but the amount of meat was borderline absurd. Overall, great flavors but not sure if it's worth the price. Service was very attentive except when we needed our check. It took a while to flag someone down but we were in no rush. Overall, good little spot for breakfast but expect to leave hungry if you have a big appetite like me. read more

I guess they only serve locals. Horrible experience my family and I were starving. On our way to the museum and they could tell we weren't regulars. We came in sat down. No one No one acknowledged us or asked if we needed water!!! Horrible service they all fuchi faces!!! At least greet people!! We left after 20 minutes and nothing. To top it off someone came in after us and they were promptly greeted and given drinks!!! This place was disappointing to say the least!! read more

Such a great find, need to come back already! Maria's Special -so flavorful. Chilaquiles texture was on point, soaked but still slightly crispy. Refried beans were great, you can taste the unhealthiness if you know what I mean but just the way I like it haha. Menudo -came out pipping hot, stayed hot even on our way back home. A family owned hidden gem in Downtown Maravilla area in East LA! Friend and I ended up here for some Mexican brunch after our first destination was closed. Glad we went out of our comforts for some great Mexican brunch. Sat down and was greeted by the owner, very welcoming and friendly! I went with the Machaca con Huevos while my friend went with Huevos Divorciados. The chilequiles was crispy and flavorful. Machaca with the house sauce was great. I think it was a mole-esque kind of sauce. It's a small restaurant so limited seating but it wasn't overall packed around noon. Would recommend to check it out if you're ever down this area of town. read more

Great Mexican food! I went on a Saturday at 1pm. I got the menudo and tilapia dishes. Very fresh and tasty. The atmosphere is very friendly and kind. The patrons here who were at the tables turned to smile in my direction when I entered. It was a nice unexpected greeting from the place. There is parking, but go to the one that is on the right side of the building. This is a cozy and family run restaurant. Good seating and very clean. They even sell books and toys!!! I've been going to La Carreta for over 15 years. The owner has always been kind and welcoming he knows my mother and me because we've been loyal customers for many years. The food has always been great, and it's been one of our favorite local spots. However, the last few times we've visited, we've noticed the portions have gotten smaller. I understand inflation affects businesses, but what I don't agree with is being charged for things that are supposed to be included with our meals. For example, dishes like chorizo con huevo or machaca have always come with two tortillas. We were a group of seven split between two small tables four at one table and three at the other. When the tortillas came, we only received three total. We asked the waiter (not the owner) for the missing tortillas and a little extra salsa since we had to share one small cup between both tables. When the bill arrived, we were surprised to see extra charges for both the tortillas and salsa $3.00 for salsa that's normally complimentary! We brought it up, and the waiter eventually removed the charges, but it left a bad impression. We've supported La Carreta for years because we believe in supporting small businesses, but it's disappointing to see this kind of nickel-and-diming, especially paired with poor service. The owner should really consider hiring a more courteous waiter someone who greets customers and treats them with the same warmth the restaurant used to be known for. Unfortunately, we will no longer support this business. Check your bill!! read more

If your looking for true authentic food this is the place i ended up coming by accident and im so glad I came I had the carne en chile verde so so delicious the rice and the beans made me feel like I'm eating my grandmothers cooking. My son had the tilapia fillet with salad and rice so delicious and we also had the mole enchiladas best mole ever. The agua de jaimaca and horchata tasted from scratch the ambience is very friendly great place for family and kids they also have books outside to sell which I thought was cute and hats. I wasn't planning on doing any food reviews today but after trying some of the dishes at La Carreta I quickly changed my mind. I'm into mole so I ordered the chicken mole plate. The mole had a slight peanut-buttery kick with just the right amount of spice. It was very flavorful without it being over the top with spices or sweetness. This combo was paired with your traditional Spanish rice and the beans taste like they were mixed with chorizo. The tacos dorados de pollo were so delicious. They were filled with shredded plain chicken breast topped with fresh lettuce, tomato, onion and cheese. I loved that the chicken was not sautéed with onion and tomato like you usually find it. Sometimes that can overpower the other flavors. I tried them with a salsa quemada that they had and it paired well. My sister ordered the steak picado and I got to eat some. The meat was tender and juicy. The salsa was ranchera style with onions, tomatoes and fresh jalapeños in a mild spicy tomato sauce. Sam the owner let me tried their most popular dishes which were the Chile Colorado and Chile Verde. Both were made with pork meat and very delicious but I preferred the Chile Colorado. It's your typical Chile Colorado sauce. It taste like the chiles were toasted to intensify the flavor. The restaurant was small and quaint. Very homestyle and welcoming. The owner takes the time to visit with the customers and has such friendly staff. I highly recommend this place and I'm most definitely coming back for the Chile Colorado. Uhhhh....YUM!!!! read more

I was excited to try this spot as my dad and his friends have been going there for years, however, my experience was not all that exciting. We walk into the restaurant and it does look very clean and colorful but we're not greeted so we just sat down. The owner says hello to my dad but does not acknowledge me even being there. Waiter was nice but there was no water offered, didnt ask if we needed anything or how the food was. The owner again, walks over to our table, gives my dad more coffee but does not give me any. Waitress just staring at us, from the kitchen and doesn't pay any mind to us until its time to enter the tip amount. That's where her smile came out. La Carreta is a small, but not too small restaurant in an adorable area of East Los Angeles. Inside it is cute, there is plenty of seating and they keep it ever so clean. The service here is amazing. They take good care of you and will explain the menu to you. There were a few things of which I was not familiar, and it was explained so well and of course we tried it. Yum. This is a family owned place and I am not sure but I think one of owners was our server. She was just so lovely. This is traditional Mexican food, but there are things you don't tend to see elsewhere. We always like to try new things. All of it was great. Their burrito rojo or the burrito relleno are both great. You can get this at most great Mexican places. These were super good. Their chips are great as are their beverage offerings. They do not sell alcohol. This was our first time having chilaquiles con nopales and camarones ranchero and boy were they great. We all shared everything. They are only open for breakfast and lunch. You can dine there, do take out or have a delivery service get your food. We ate there. They make you feel at home. read more

I've been coming to this place for over a decade, and I always order the same thing: huevos divorciados (divorced eggs). It comes with one egg covered with chile verde stew, one egg covered with chile colorado stew on opposite side of plate, chilaquiles and beans in the middle, sprinkled with Mexican cheese. It also comes with either corn or flour tortillas and habanero pico de gallo on the side. Most places that make this dish just cover each egg with red sauce and green sauce, but no meat. This is easily one of my favorite breakfasts, and they serve it until closing (4pm). read more

Wife had the chili rellenos which came with two- fire! She asked for nopales instead of beans with her rice. I downed the Divorciados Plato with two over easy eggs hidden under delicious pork chili verde on one side and pork chili rojo on the other. In the middle was chilaquiles with beans to rounded all out- delicious. They could put some more trocitos de puerco, but all in all it's pretty filling. Excellent customer service as well. read more

We drove from the Valley to eat at another place, but all the tables were being used by people ordering food to go AND, they didn't have a restroom! Really?! So we said hasta la vista baby, and went next door to La Carreta! We're so happy we did! We throughly enjoyed it and the service was excellent! Samuel thought I was a friend of his when I looked in the window. He was very kind and friendly. I had the Huevos Divorciados and my friend had Maria's Special, which was chilaquiles topped with chorizo and eggs. The beans were delicious! I could always tell how good a Mexican restaurant is by how good their beans are. Excellent! We enjoyed everything and told Sam it was our first time and would definitely return. It was our first time here. A welcoming environment from the time you step in. Coffee is served continuously, and I had about 3 cups without once having to ask. Food is served quickly. I ordered the Huevos Divorciados, and my friend ordered Maria's Special (Breakfast). Flavor and spice were well-balanced. Attentive service provided. I've read about meal prices being expensive, but they're a small restaurant trying to keep up with costs. It's also a very home-cooked meal that I didn't have to make or clean up after, so I think the pricing is balanced and generous. Would definitely return if the opportunity presents itself. read more

This place is wonderful and I would definately go if you are in the are in the mood for traditional food that tastes like it was made at home, and the tortillas are beyond wonderful. Is it a revelation? No. But the food makes you feel warm and the people that run this place even more so. The price is right where it should be. Definately worth a drive if you're in the area. Went around September 15, 2024. Ordered a burrito. It was ok. Nothing to hype about. All these hipsters make it a big deal, of course. I personally don't like Pinto beans in my Mexican food. They seem too rich. I prefer Peruvian beans w my Mexican food. Much lighter taste. I would go back but also check out El Gallo Grill across the street, better quality food, and Lillian's Tamales a couple of block East to the left side. read more
