I had a wonderful early dinner here and had a really great Serice staff as well. As an American who speaks no French they treated me great and one of the hosts spoke English and taught me about the town as well. All ingredients including the pasta is fresh and made at the restaurant. All I am going to say is EVERYTHING including the wine was fabulous.

"Niçoise tiny stuffed vegetables" with ground beef, fresh herbs, parmesan. Yum!

Excellent value and not overly "tourist" despite the location. And, as a tourist we wanted a mix of representative local dishes (seafood and nicoise and italian). We had to rush for a tour and they were fast and polite. Great amongst the many options here for tourists, imho, although it seemed (quite Nice-ly, lol) almost everyone else eating here was French and/or local.

We stopped here for lunch as the menu seemed reasonable and it was right next to the market. Service is good, English is spoken albeit not well. Food is also ok, not spectacular but good. The menu choices are reasonably extensive and it's a nice place to stop for lunch or dinner. It's also not over priced and seems to attract a lot of locals and French tourists. The majority of the people eating lunch here were French speaking people.

This place was excellent! Just go in with expectations that it isn't a fucking Applebee's or Nando's. It is well prepared French and Mediterranean cuisine, served by real and local people. Most of these negative reviews were about lack of English spoken by servers, "rude" attitude, etc. Sounds like these were the wrong travelers for this great little restaurant. We saw it while walking past and sat down to eat without looking at reviews, and thank god we didn't look first. Excellent little spot with amazing food!

    Wild boar and polenta, excellent.

The waitresses were beyond inattentive and rude. She made jokes and surrounding Americans and made many of our party uncomfortable.

Great meal in France!…read more This was a fantastic first dinner in Nice right off the main drag. We had reservation for 7pm and arrived a few minutes early. We waited a few minutes while they prepped our table and we were seated promptly. The vibe was cool, very French cafe feeling on the streets. The waiters were kind and attentive was you settled in. They patiently answered all our menu questions. We ordered the fois gras (because when in France), the duck and the octopus. All the food was excellent, the fois gras was perfect (although probably wouldn't order it again for ethical reasons). The octopus was absolutely perfect, very very easy to screw up, but they nailed it; every bit melting in our mouths. The duck breast was perfect, juicy and cooked to perfect. All the dishes were served with plenty of accompaniment. Great meal for a great French experience. Would highly recommend.

Walked over from a nearby hotel and grabbed a table by myself along the busy street. The servers…read morewere very friendly and spoke English well. It happened to be happy hour so I was able to take advantage of some great drink deals. For my dinner, I ordered the duck with vegetables, potatoes, and added a side of ratatouille. It was all very good and the portions were large for the price. The orange sauce was unique and it seemed to have orange peels in it as well. While this might be more of a touristy spot with this location, it was a true French menu, which was my goal. The food and service were very good and I'll come back.

This was our favorite meal of our trip to Nice!…read more Warning: Reservations are hard to come by we dropped by and only reservations available were for 9pm two nights later. We took it. The place is super relaxed. 5 maybe 6 tables which made the difficulty of reservations more understandable. Prix fix menu - 4 appetizers to choose from, 4 entrees and 4 desserts. We were there with somewhat of a limited diet, but the options were awesome. We got a cauliflower appetizer and an artichoke one. Both were excellent. We all had the cod for dinner also delicious - served in a bath of traditional fish soup and with potatoes. The dessert was also excellent - we got the goat cheese in olive oil and garlic, the cream cheese with blueberry compote, lemon cheesecake and cinnamon "tiramisu". Every bite was full of flavor and such cool takes on the food. Now the intangibles - we arrived for our 9pm reservation, restaurant closes at 9:30 and we probably didn't walk out until 11:15 and there was still another table of 8 people dining. The host/waiter, Sebastian, was awesome. So friendly and we at no point felt rushed. In fact the opposite. When our daughter was slow in finishing her meal he joked with her instead of hurrying us along. Once we finished our main dish, he casually brought us our dessert and because we didn't order his favorite (we didn't know) he brought us out an extra to enjoy. We felt a little bad so somewhat accelerated the dessert phase so we could square up and leave. Instead he was unhurried, he casually cleared our table and chatted with us for a bit. It took us another 15 minutes before we finally said could we get the bill. He brought it to us another 5-7 minutes later. We had a great experience and one of our best meals in France, if not the best.

Overall, I'd say the food is a 3.5/5 but the value is 5/5. I'd recommended Chez Palmyre if you want a real Nice experience, especially on a budget. Be sure to make a reservation well in advance.
