Being one of the older restaurants in Santiago, La Cabrera has several locations throughout the city for a dose of steak. And in Santiago, if a spot can make decent steak, there is almost a guarantee that it will be popular.
How does La Cabrera stack up when it comes to steakhouses? Despite getting the temperature on the steak somewhat off, the meat here is spectacular. Top notch filet mignon and excellent skirt steak that they are known for. Steaks come with a great variety of sauces like chimichurri and others. The bread and pate that came with it was also amazing. With those accolades said, there a couple areas where the establishment needs to improve. For starters, the salads that came out had many leaves that were rotten. Not sure how it is commonplace in Chile, but steak and salad is a fairly common combination in most places around the world. And even if that's not the case here, the simple rule still applies: if you can't make it, don't put it on the menu. Despite that, there are several salads on the menu. The second area is not a deficiency, but rather an improvement recommendation. It would be nice for them to carry some local beers on draft instead of only having Stella, which is the last beer to drink when it comes to visiting Chile.
In summary, La Cabrera is an excellent steakhouse with very traditional takes on meat preparation. Portions are massive and presentation on the skillet is beautiful. Thus, would recommend it without hesitation. read more
