First time at La Cabanita and we had such a great experience! The atmosphere was warm, cozy, and welcoming. Our server, Javier, was excellent! Very attentive, patient with our decent-sized party, and very professional and friendly the entire time. He makes an amazing margarita and gave us great food recommendations as well. He also handled all of our party shenanigans with friendliness and good humor, which definitely did not go unnoticed. The chilaquiles were very good; crispy and with a little kick but not too spicy. The burrito was also very good. We really liked the tortilla chips and the salsa verde. This place was so delicious! It was my first time here and I thought the place was super cute, and the server who waited on our table was so sweet. I got the corn soup, and the enchiladas verde with chicken and it was all really yummy! They had some of the best chips I've ever had. The place is really loud though, the walls don't have the best acoustics so it's a little hard to hear your party talking so just keep that in mind but I think they might have a smaller room that is probably better for smaller parties? Not sure though But all in all, this place was amazing and can't wait to come back and try something new! read more

Finally found a solid Mexican breakfast place that reminds me of Mexico City! A hidden gem close to the Montrose Farmer's Market so you can walk around after eating a delicious meal. I really like all the breakfast dishes we got and appreciated how big the portions were! For the machaca norteña, the eggs were seasoned and had the perfect inclusions. One of the great Mexican brunches in LA. We ordered Huevos Rancheros (because I missed it!) and Carnitas La Cabanita. I finished the Huevos Rancheros as it is a simple dish with two sunny-side-up eggs and corn tortillas underneath plus black beans. The lean pork is soft from the Carnitas dish which includes rice and salad. Cafe De Olla is my kind of coffee and theirs has a subtle cinnamon flavor but you can still taste it which I liked. Their green and red sauce as well as chips are soooo good! Come by and try! The staff are attentive and observant. Their service is excellent! The place is clean and the ambiance is quiet. This place is probably the only good Mexican restaurant in the area. I love their salsas with the chips I always ask for extra. The street al pastor tacos were just okay but the other three tacos were pretty good! I liked the tortilla it came with so much better and the meats had way more flavor. I would come back and get more of those tacos. The blended margarita was just okay I barely tasted alcohol I'll probably do on the rocks next time. Service can be slow if it's busy. We enjoy going to this restaurant and love to bring family and friends, even though it's not the biggest they can still accommodate large parties. If you come with the least six people, we recommend getting the appetizer platter. It comes with a little of everything, including quesadillas, taquitos, cheese, carnitas, guacamole, and much more. Love coming for their lunchtime specials good deal for the amount of food you get if you go on the weekend you can get as one of the soups and their pozole is amazing! There is a ton of street parking. Just remember to curb your reels so that you don't get a ticket. The staff is very attentive and helpful. Tried this Mexican restaurant out for the first time. It's a really nice local spot. It can be a challenge to find street parking so give yourself enough time. There is no restaurant parking lot that I know of. And depending on where you park, don't forget to curb your wheels. There were a few people waiting outside and when we entered, wow it was busy. Not in a bad way. It has a nice neighborhood family vibe to it. Love the interior design. A little snug and consists of a few sections. There's also a bar. We had a large group and were seated in the back where there was more space and tables. We were given chips and salsa, which were pretty good. I ate a ton before the meal and during. I ordered the Chicken flautas plate. The flautas were crispy and juicy. Easy to bite into and not tough. So good with the guacamole on top. And the beans and rice kept me eating nonstop lol. I understand that many independent restaurants are dealing with higher costs right now, but the food just doesn't taste the same as it used to. The recipes may be unchanged, but the ingredients and overall execution feel different. My wife and I decided to have an early Sunday dinner at La Cabanita. For numerous reasons, (being away from town for extended periods, trying new places, etc) we hadn't dined here in quite some time. We ordered our usual fare, Quesadilla Azteca with chicken and an ala carte chili relleno for me and an ala chuleta and chili relleno with rice and beans for my wife. We had house margaritas and enjoyed the chips and salsas. The service was excellent and everyone was very attentive. The food arrived promptly and was piping hot. It was delicious and nothing had changed....it was just as tasty and satisfying as it has always been since we started dining there over 25 years ago. As I told Josie, the owner/manager when she inquired about our meals, "it's like going home". We had a great meal and stayed to enjoy desserts and a coffee. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and will be back soon and definitely, we won't stay away for very long. The food is too good to do that! read more

La Cabañita is hands down the best Mexican food spot in Glendale. My parents came here for brunch and margaritas on their anniversary, and raved about the food. We are from San Diego, where the Mexican food is far superior to Los Angeles. (Don't even try to fight me.) They raved about this place so much, that we had to come back as a family. We had a big table in the back room, for our large group. They started us with chips and salsa, which is so damn good, we had to request more. Their salsa is BOMB!!! Between us, we had enchiladas, flautas, carnitas, a burrito, and fajitas. The adults had margaritas. Everything was incredible and delicious. The service was incredible - multiple people checking on us throughout our meal to ensure our drinks stayed full. The ambiance was lively - lots of families with kids and parties happening - but definitely not obnoxious. Definitely my new favorite spot in town. Already planning our next visit! read more

The Carne Asada was not first class. It was very overly seasoned with hot pepper which completely obliterated any hint of a taste of steak. It appeared to have been pounded to make it less tough. The service was poor. No refills were offered and no one came back to see if everything was okay. The waiter wore black food gloves and they were unsanitary. The plate included rice -no flavor to it. There are big chunks of potato and carrot, and a generous portion of avocado. This is my third time here and food was great. Parking is in front. Make sure you curb those wheels even note wanting signs all over the place. The menu is extensive. I had a chicken mole which was made with the chicken breast served with rice and beans although I did substitute salad. The salad has a homemade dressing excellent and the chicken mole was tender. My wife had is stuffed chili, which was fantastic. Service was quick. The restaurant is homestyle. They do have a large room and back for a large partiesand a side room which looks like it accommodates large numbers in the main room which is the bar area we were not rushed, but noise level is high. Honestly, this is my favorite restaurant in all of Southern California. We've been coming here for years. I love this place. We usually come for breakfast but dinner some times also. It's such a unique and authentic menu. The staff is so warm and welcoming, The food is excellent. I think their mole is better than some highly rated places in Mexico. The chuletas pork dish melts in your mouth. Chiles en Nogada has always been a favorite of mine. They have two salsas for chips. Green is excellent but the roasted red salsa is the best you'll have anywhere!!!! This would be my last dinner on this planet if I had to make a choice. read more

We brought out of state friends to La Cabañita when they asked to have Mexican food while they were visiting. It was a Wednesday evening and I called to see if I needed a reservation for four, and they assured me I'd only need one if we were a large party, but they would put my name on the wait list so we'd be sure and get a table quickly. True to their word, we got a parking place directly in front of the restaurant and walked right in to have our choice of several seats. The menu is extensive and has something for everyone. The guys both chose carnitas. I had chicken enchiladas poblanas and our other friend is vegetarian and chose cheese enchiladas in a verde sauce. We also had Jamaicas and Modelos. Service was quick and attentive and the Jamaicas were delicious and refreshing on a warm evening. Chips and two salsas (red and green) arrived a minute after we sat down. We happily munched and visited while we waited to give our order and then for our food to come. It was not fast, but we did not want fast food. We came for a nice carefully prepared dinner in a restaurant with good service and ambiance. And that's what we received. The carnitas were perfectly cooked, crunchy from the frying on the outside but still tender and flavorful inside with a delicious dipping sauce. The rice is pretty but uninspired, but the black beans were delicious. The chicken enchiladas were stuffed with tender, moist white meat that shredded easily, and the poblano sauce was herbaceous and satisfying. The green chile enchiladas also received rave reviews. Portions were large and provided some fantastic leftovers. We have other beloved mom and pop Mexican restaurants in the area, but if you're willing to pay a little more for a full dining experience in a lovely restaurant, you can't go wrong at La Cabañita. read more

I finally made it to La Cabanita after hearing great things for years and I was not disappointed. The Cadillac Margarita was just perfect with their super fresh house made chips and two types of salsa. I chose to have two tacos a la carte. I've never encountered the picadillo taco before; it's ground meat, raisins and almonds in a tomato sauce. So tasty. So unusual. My other taco was the cochinita which is shredded pork and also outstanding and of course the classic corn tortillas are made in house. My honey had the Chiles a La Cabanita: poblanos stuffed with a chicken, almond and raisin filling. There is a sweet creamy cheese sauce that counters the spiciness nicely. Entrees are served with very respectable rice and beans. Service is superb. We happened to be there at the shift change and the camaraderie of the staff is heartwarming. They care about the customers, the restaurant and each other and it shows. I look forward to trying the chilaquiles in the future, as well as the mole. La Cabanita is what's often referred to as an institution because of its longevity. This so called institution continues on unabated based on friendly service of quality food at reasonable prices. read more

My family and I wanted to have a nice dinner out at one of our favorite spots. We arrived and put our name to be waitlisted. Our party of 5 was missing one person and the waiter told us after 15 minutes he would hold a table for us when our last member arrived. When she arrived they had told us it would take another twenty minutes to seat us, despite holding a table for us. I'm sorry to say I will not be returning to this restaurant nor recommending it. We went for breakfast on a weekend and it was wonderful. The interior was charming with tiled tables, sturdy chairs, and Mexican colors all around. My wife had machaca and I had bocalitos, which were pairs of small homemade corn tortillas sandwiching fluffy scrambled eggs, black beans, and cheese. Think Mexican breakfast sliders. But then the real stars were the homemade green and red salsas on the table. REALLY outstanding!! They raised the already high quality to another level. We dine across various locations from upscale, Michelin-star restaurants to tiny, hole-in-the-wall spots that serve clean, organic, and flavorful food, and have NEVER come across a staff member, manager, and certainly not an owner, who is ill-mannered without a smile to have told a WELL-BEHAVED 3-YEAR OLD (WHO WAS LOOKING AT THE CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS OF SNOWFLAKE STENCILS ON THE WINDOW NEAR THE DOOR AND NEAR OUR TABLE WITH THEIR PARENTS, I REPEAT, WITH THEIR PARENTS, NONETHELESS) TO GO SIT DOWN since 'there are people carrying around hot plates". As I mentioned to you while confirming whether or not the establishment still serves children, we've dined there on occasion, witnessing young children who were (obnoxiously) talking loudly and walking around their tables without anyone from the restaurant, nor the parents saying anything to them to have a seat. The children that we saw were NOT of French or Italian/European descent as our granddaughter is, nor is our granddaughter's picture (or ours, thankfully) on your INDUSTRY WALL OF WORSHIP; something tells me if they were, you would not have dared to say anything)...but, to DISCRIMINATE in the manner in which you chose to is PLENTY OF REASON ENOUGH to NEVER support La Cabanita in word, nor dining. This has been a local favorite for sometime. I haven't been here in 5-7 years, so it was nice to revisit. I enjoyed my meal very much. The staff were accommodating and friendly. Ordered the street tacos, also the green cheese enchiladas, along with a Pina colada. Street tacos very flavorful and very filling. Husband enjoyed the cheese enchiladas. Chips were fresh and crunch. Nice to have both green and red salads at the table. Two complaints. Pina colada lacked alcohol. Felt like I was drinking a coconut smoothie. Ladies bathroom was not clean. La Cabañita is a popular place, especially on weekends. We were fortunate to get seated right away during a lull in their incoming customers. But be prepared to wait up to 20 or more minutes when they're busy. I can tell whether the food is going to be authentic by looking at the rice, well theirs is pretty close to my mother's Mexican homemade rice. They have a great variety of dishes and specialty dishes available. The chicken mole dish was also pretty close to my mom's recipe. The corn tortillas were also homemade. The only reason their food doesn't get 5 stars is because the chicken breast mole dish was a little bit dry. As for service, I really wanted to give them 5 stars. I know the servers hustle and are busy. When we went it was close to the restaurants closing time so I think they were running low on energy. So be kind to your servers. They work hard for us to enjoy the experience of dining out. read more
