Recently, I was desperate after my MacPro was hacked by a scammer posing as a fake remote tech support person. I shut off my computer, went to Yelp and was happy to find someone who specializes in Apple/Mac. I then asked my La Canada Flintridge friends and one person endorsed him whole-heartedly. I called Jack and lucky for me he said to come over in a couple of hours. He has a nice, bright office next to his house, not far from the freeway exit for Trader Joe's. He's so easy to work with--smart, personable and clear. He knew exactly what needed to be done. I have a backup service, but having done a backup install before, I knew that would take days. Jack took care of everything and had my laptop back to me that same day. There is nothing like the security of knowing your computer is only in the hands of one trustworthy person instead of sitting in a backroom, handed off to someone you've never spoken to. Also, Jack is an authorized Apple tech and his fees are fair. He also helped me choose the right router (I was about to buy something I would have regretted). I have told all my Mac friends about him so I thought I should get around to posting here. It's hard to overstate how outstanding the service you'll get from La Cañada Mac is. Jack is more knowledgable than anyone I've met at a genius bar and simultaneously the exact opposite when it comes to attitude. He's honest, upbeat and positive the way a person is when he is doing what he loves for a living. In my case he instantly diagnosed my ailing 2011 MBP as having a bad video card then let me know that there was a recall available that Apple failed to alert us registered buyers to. Where other computer techs would have charged me a few hundred dollars only to send the computer to the factory to get fixed, Jack walked me through the process of dealing with Apple directly to get if repaired free of charge. This type of honesty is increasingly rare and speaks volumes about his ethics. Once the issue is taken care of, I'll be bringing my macbook back for him to upgrade. I spoke with the owner Jack over the phone about potential functionality issues I was facing with my Mid 2014 MB Pro Retina 15" laptop whose 1TB internal flash hard drive was almost at capacity. He couldn't have been more patient or knowledgable about the machine itself, eventually talking me out of buying a new $6600.00 MB Pro as a replacement. His comprehensive knowledge of the 3rd party options present in the current marketplace really changed my mind and I went with an OWC 2TB internal flash drive kit which saved me about $5500.00 overall! If you run into any problems with your Apple products, don't waste your time at the Apple store-- go to La Canada Mac!! I had been having issues with my MacBook Pro for many months and had set up countless appointments at my local Apple store. Each time, it was such a hassle to have to book appointments for later in the week for a problem that was happening RIGHT THEN.. Of course, as Murphy's Law would dictate, the problem would usually stop right when I got to the Apple store and the "geniuses" were never able to identify any issues. I honestly think Apple geniuses are wildly unqualified to be advising anyone on their hardware issues-- all they do is plug in an Ethernet cord and perform the most basic diagnostic tests... such a waste of time!! Anyways, it was after my fourth useless Apple appointment that I found Jack through Yelp. I called him in the morning and he set up an appointment time for two hours later-- immediate service without any unnecessary wait time? Sign me up! I stopped by and he was able to immediately diagnose the issue as a problem with my fan and said he'd replace the fan and have my MacBook up and running within 2 hours. Sure enough, he texted me to come pick it up in 2 hours and I was freaking elated at how my MacBook performed with absolutely no hiccoughs. It was $90 total for parts and labor, which is literally a fraction of what Apple stores charge... Trust me, Jack is a God-send and is truly the most efficient and knowledgeable Apple technician you'll ever work with. Here I was scared that my MacBook was going to explode on me, and he was able to not only assuage my fears but actually educate me on the issues at hand. It really blows my mind that the team at Apple was unable to recognize a problem as basic as replacing the fan... on multiple occasions... spanning a time period of one year....
