La Boîte is a French-themed cafe, having as its tag line, "French Influence, British Produce".
They serve a range of Gallettes (filled flat pastries, a bit like a flaky pastry quiche), crepes and baguettes, croques, sweet pastries, croissants, and beverages. In the morning, they have a breakfast menu, followed by a brunch menu.
The venue itself is small, situated on a corner of Cross Street - the window seats are great for people watching. On our visit, we had baguettes: one Roasted Red Onion with Onion Chutney, Goat's Cheese, Cream Cheese & Spinach (£7.95) and one Parma Ham, with Mozarella, Pesto, Rocket & Basil (£8.95). They were freshly made and well-filled, and very tasty.
Service from the young team was very friendly and reasonably efficient, and it helps that you can see them at all times if you need to catch their attention.
Overall, a good find, and we hope they do well. read more
