I also wish it came with some bread because the sauce was very tasty and needed mopping up with something. My husband had the Chicken Liver Pâté with brioche (this became my source of mopping bread). It was a generous portion nicely presented in a little preserve jar. He seemed very happy with it and I enjoyed the bit I tasted. For the main course my husband had the Lamb Shank special. Succulent and fell of the bone. It was sat on a bed of mashed potatoes which I think is one of the best accompaniments for such a meat. I was really in the mood for seafood so I ordered the Seabass. Two large fillets arrived with a sweet beurre blanc sauce. I think it is a main that definitely needs sides so ordered some beans and fries. They were what you'd expect them to be. Instead, without even letting me speak, he tries to offer me a 'smallish cake with a candle' as a compensation, just because we were celebrating an occasion that he had no clue about. I literally had to ask him to shut up! and chose not to speak any further. We ended up spending over £300 for an awful experience that literally left me frustrated and worried, thinking what if the kids, elderly or even anyone else around swallowed that sharp staple pin....yet no apology was offered. For some reason as I write this review, it upsets me even more bring back that whole experience in my mind. This has now been formally reported to FHRS at the St Albans District Council for further investigation.
