At first glance it is hard to tell if the restaurant is even open for business, but despite the outside appearance, the food is fabulous! Everything that we tried appeared to be freshly made. The salsa, chips, guacamole, burritos were delicious. If you're in the area, don't miss this hidden gem. read more

Plenty of seating in this little place and it's always a pleasure. Guacamole and queso are really good. The pico de gallo is very flavorful as well. One of the most authentic Mexican spots you can find around this area. The service is always good. He always greet you with a smile, we came here pretty late and they were still accommodating. read more

This review is based on yesterday's stop for the very first time. La Borimex offers a large parking lot and is located across the road from Glenwood Foods. Traffic is often heavy in that area so exercise caution when entering and exiting the parking lot. My large plate of guacamole with chips was freshly prepared and plated with chips placed circularly in a large mound of guacamole resulting in what appeared to be a rosette-shaped agave. Very eye-appealing presentation! My preferred guacamole contains significant cilantro and lime although the Borimex version is plenty good. My steak quesadilla was fantastic: flavorful, enticing in presentation and priced just right. The shredded steak was tender. Based on previous experiences elsewhere, I expected shredded lettuce, sour cream and salsa to be on the side of my quesadilla. At La Borimex, those additions are decoratively placed atop the quesadilla and the result is pure beauty. No exaggeration. This is one beautiful dish! Compliments to the artistic chef! La Borimex offers immaculate interior and excellent customer service. There is a pleasant aura to the place. The interior is rustic in design with colorful decorations similar to what one might find in a cantina. I will definitely be returning. read more

Found this place from searching for some Mexican food online and this came up. We decided to try it right away. The parking is located on the backside of the building where there's a covered deck with some seating and indoor seating. When you come in, you can sit anywhere that has a place setting and you order at the counter when you are ready. There's no waiter/waitress she just brings you out the food. The food arrives to you in takeout containers which is so convenient because they give you good sized portions you probably will end up taking some food home. Love this idea. As for the food, it was very good. Love the rice, it's more minced than normal rice but still full of flavor. Chicken burrito was delicious and the nachos we ordered had thick chips with equally distributed toppings. The soup we tried was called Menudo, it's pork stomach soup. We never had that before but it tastes similar to chili and it comes with piping hot tortillas to eat it with. So yummy. Will definitely come back here again. Prices were adequate and fair for the large amount of food you get. read more

Not bad at all! Taco shell is airy and flaky and didn't get soggy on the bottom. I would have preferred a little more lettuce, but no big deal. The guacamole was soooo good! As well as the chicken burrito. Huge portions! Will definitely return! read more

I think they make their own for tortillas. The shrimp burrito was filled with fresh juicy tomatoes. The veggie quesadilla was excellent too.

Owner was rude.. myself ,my friend and her three kids went here to eat a late lunch around 2pm so it was not bizzy ... we made our order, part of our order was a kids meal add bacon and cheese to the fries and another kids meal add JUST bacon to the fries.. food came out and one was missing the bacon(plain fries) .. so we asked the man who gave it to us for bacon ONLY (no cheese ) be added to the fries it was missing.. he took the food and went to the back .. the woman who took our order came out and said The bacon would be extra and we didn't order bacon.. myself and my friend said yes we did she then said no you didn't and I repeated myself and the order .."yes we did one with bacon only and one with bacon and cheese" she got rude real quick and her reply was "I am the OWNER and I have cameras and can check" my reply was " please do" my friend also said yes check..bc we BOTH said it.. the owner left and came back a few minutes later with a receipt in her hand and said " you did order it with bacon but I didn't charge you" put down the receipt and walked away .. NO I AM SORRY.. my apologies..she did not use basic manors from the second she came to the table about the entire "bacon" situation.. I have eaten there for years and it's always the same woman ( blue contacts to change her eye color) and she is not a very nice n friendly person but she wasn't rude like that either ..I dont expect you to always be chipper but I do believe if you are the OWNER you should have better people skills and manors with your customers..not just assume you are always right .. She handled that all wrong and couldn't even say sorry.. food I'd give a 3/5 but owner was disrespectful and rude read more

Ya ever just want to hate a place and just give them 1star...but after you taste the food, you change your mind, well this is the place. Wait time for you food is terrible. They have no real waitresses. I think since Covid they are more of a take out place, but you can still eat in or outside. The people just roll in and out of this place. They serve your food as take out but you can stay and eat. I don't have pictures except for the menu because we were starving and ate before pictures were taken. I would pretty much recommend anything on their menu. It's all good and fresh, real Mexican food. If you can visit this place order ahead so you have no wait. Enjoy! read more

Place seems to have gone seriously downhill the last few years. 1. No REAL plates, cups, or silverware 2. Meals purchased to eat in the restaurant are served in wasteful styrofoam containers- accompanied by plastic silverware. 3. The only beverages available come out of the refrigerator case. Even water must be purchased this way. 4. No waitstaff- you order at the counter. Food was average- prices the same as at a full service Mexican restaurant. read more

We've wanted to visit La Borimex for a while, and today, returning from Frysville Farms with a Christmas tree, afforded the perfect opportunity to stop in for lunch. Yes, it's a groceraunt. A few shelves in the middle of the main room are dedicated to Mexican groceries, while the dining tables are around the permieter of the store. We chose from the $5.00 lunch menu, with my wife and I each getting chicken enchaladas with black beans, rice, and a delicious green sauce. Food was very authentic and very reasonably priced, with all entrees under $10. Drinks are purchased from the cooler in glass bottles, and with the exception of some staple sodas (coke, pepsi, sprite), the entire cooler was filled with interesting Mexican sodas. Wow, there's more than just food to sample! Menu was very expansive, with lots new dishes to try. Atmosphere was very casual, and definately kid friendly. For the price, the authenticity, and the quality, we have found a new favorite. We are fans of El Serano, but who needs the 30 minute drive and the 45 minute wait when we can be seated in La Borimex in 15 minutes! Looks like "Hinkletown" might have to be renamed "Pollotown"! read more

Just damn good food. Never disappointed. Everything always tastes fresh, staring with the chips and salsa and all the way through the meal.

Pretty average Mexican food. It's not absolutely horrible but I've had better. The fajitas are odd

In a word: Fantastic. Not much more to say, other than "Eat here". It's delicious. High quality food, reasonable prices, good service. Excellent. read more

This place is dirty. Cobwebs in one corner stood out almost immediately. You order at the counter. We waited at the counter for probably six minutes before someone came out, plopped a greasy menu in front of us and walked away. They came back a little later and asked if we were ready to order. No waitress service. There are no fountain drinks, so therefore, no refills. When we were there, there was a family of four sitting in the dining room and my wife and I were told our food would be a 45-50 minute wait. We decided not to wait, as the menu was nothing to get excited about. It's just got a lot of standard stuff you could readily get at Taco Bell. On the way out, I decided to check the restrooms. They were not very clean. By no means were they horrendous, but they smelled of stale urine and toilet paper cluttered the floor. Fixtures are old and stained. I don't like providing negative reviews to anyone, but this little restaurant didn't impress at all. It's not a hidden gem. It's old, run down and frankly, strikes me as a front for something else. Serving their customers in a clean, welcoming environment with unique menu choices and safe healthy preparation practices all seemed like hazy, distant afterthoughts here. As a super yelper, it is unfortunate that I must decline giving this establishment high marks. read more

I was driving from Lancaster to Philly, and everyone in the car wanted to eat. But, we just left the outskirts of Lancaster, and was nearing Ephrata, and there wasn't much around. Yelp suggested La Borimex and we headed there. We got lucky. EXCELLENT TACOS. Super fresh and tasty. I lived in California for 10 years and have high expectations. I couldn't have been happier. My sons also asked for more, which is a great sign. We will definitely come back. read more

After an amazing dinner at a Mexican restaurant in Lititz last night I was craving more tonight so we decided to give this place a shot after seeing all the good reviews. We arrived around 8 and had no trouble getting a table (bonus - we got a booth near the heater). Unlike Chillangos in Lititz, this place doesn't give you complimentary chips and salsa but no biggie, only $1.99, however the salsa was too sweet and tasted like it came out of a jar and the chips were dark and dense - total disappointment. No fountain drinks, only 12 oz. glasss bottles you get yourself out of the cooler. For our meals hubby got the Chorizo Quesadilla which was tasty and I got the Chicken Chimichanga. My meal was meh - way more cheese than chicken but it had a nice taste. The beans and rice that came with my meal were bland and looked unappetizing to say the least as you can see in the photo. The rice looked more like couscous, all chopped to bits and stuck together with little to no taste and the beans were the same, just a few whole black beans in a puddle on my plate. The meals were served with a cup of chopped tomato, onion & cilantro which was quite tasty, shame they couldn't recreate something similar and serve fresh, homemade salsa. Guess it serves me right for not returning to Chillangos, I won't make that mistake again. read more

Really great food! I had some carnita tacos and tostones that were excellent! Really authentic and flavorful food. I love it!

Hoping for the best after reading several good reviews but we were sadly disappointed. The chips were very thick, neither salsa had a good flavor, and the queso tasted like it was out of a can. Our main courses were no better. Tacos el Gordo is our go to in the Ephrata! read more

Love this place! Located in literally the middle of nowhere is this gem of a restaurant. Little odd and awkward when you walk in, but that's part of the charm. They treat you like family, not just a customer. Get the tamales if they have them and you won't be disappointed. read more

I 1,000% support this small business. It's located in a weird spot so people don't pay it any mind but their food is SO GOOD.

GREAT Mexican Cuisine. They even have a cute little store where you can get other things. The tacos are my personal favorite.

4 stars because the food is really good. -1 star because the service is extremely slow. Bf & I waited over an hour for food. Definitely worth it, but call ahead. The guac appetizer is a good size. You get plenty of chips to go with the hefty portion. The tacos were delicious, especially the pork belly one. Check it out, but call ahead! read more

Yeah we saw online then we decided to go inside and eat in place was empty . So of course we thought maybe we made the wrong choice . I ordered the chicken enchiladas with salsa verde. It was great! Definitely as authentic as I've seen in the area, with large portions and a diverse enough menu to keep everyone 13+ happy. As it doubles as a food supply store, there is a fridge stocked with fun beverages not likely to be offered many other places. We ate outside which was nice, as long as you don't mind seeing one or two bees get close. I would absolutely come back! read more

We have lived in Texas, spent several winters in Arizona and traveled a lot in Mexico - We're big fans of Mexican food and critical of "average." La Borimex was a very pleasant surprise. Definitely one of the best for Mexcican food that we have been to in eastern Pennsylvania, and we have tried many. My wife's Chimichanga was excellent. Fried with a crispy tortilla. My chilaquiles and a chorizo taco were super in both flavor and appearance. The refried beans were done right. (We saw the fried whole fish ordered by some of their regular customers and it looked worth a try.) The food was 5 star quality. We must revisit to try some of their other offerings. Pricing was reasonable. Very good value for the food quality. Another positive sign was that about half the diners were Hispanic; thus vouching for the food's authenticity. On our first visit was for lunch in a group of 17 people. Also the restaurant was full and the servers were really busy. Consequently service was slow - but all our food was served hot. The atmosphere is not luxurious. These were the only factors that kept me from giving La Borimex a 5 star rating. read more

Wow, just wow. hands down, those were the best carnitas I've ever had. My partner just kept saying "Damn, that's Delicious" every time he took a bite of his burrito. best tostones. I'd give you 1000000 stars if i could. I almost ran back inside to serenade yall. Wow. read more

Decided to go to this little Mexican place after reading the previous yelp reviews and we were not disappointed. We sat ourselves and were greeted by our server within a few minutes. We then picked our drinks out of a wide variety of options from the fridge. We waited about 15 minutes for our food to come out. Everything was great! My boyfriend got a fish burrito along with a steak and chorizo taco. I got a vegetarian quesadilla. Everything was very tasty and it was extremely high quality Mexican food. The price was under 20 dollars! Definitely would recommend this place to anyone. read more

Awesome food and cute little restaurant!! i typically get the taco salad, with a pretty big portion size.

Mexican cuisine, which is comparable to any working-class Mexican restaurant (tacos, tortas, burritos, etc.) I've visited in Mexico or in Hispanic neighborhoods here in the U.S (and I've been to many of them!). We tried the nachos, several tacos, the Chilapa burrito and the rice and beans. I find that rice is a good acid test of Mexican places, and the rice here was delicious! The beans served on the side are soupy black beans, not refried pinto. I actually prefer refried pinto beans, but these black beans were wonderful. The dining area is roughly what I'd expect from a typical pizzeria. We had the good fortune to eat on the covered deck during a light spring shower, which was rather pleasant. I would note that this building is not far from the road, so the deck may not always be that charming. Prices were reasonable, and the only fault I'd find with this restaurant is that service was slow. Everyone working here was quite friendly (Spanish and English spoken here, by the way), but we experienced long waits to order, to receive out food and we needed to visit the register to get our check. Fairly, I'd take off 1/2 a star for service choppiness, but given everything else, I give 5 stars rather than 4. The food is marginal at best. While 3 tacos are only $5.50, the food lacks flavor and spice. The chicken enchiladas with green sauce were similar. The staff was very friendly; however, will not be going back. read more

This gem is tucked away with a back door entrance. The simple dish of fresh out the fryer hot, salty tortilla chips and the jarred salsa was worth the trip from Philly alone. Steak or the carnitas tacos are great in their small corn tortillas. They are also very flexible since I have asked to get my chicken fajita salad in a crispy taco shell. The cook was very amenable. The fried ice cream will take you back to your childhood trips to Chi-Chi's. We will be back for a 3rd try soon. read more
