I'm from Mexico City, I truly love Mexican food and of course I look for authentic or close to the foods I enjoy. I ended up coming here by accident. The place seems nice. I ended up ordering pozole which is pork meat with hominy and a bit of spice broth meal. I was super excited. Took it to go. Once I got home. They did give the garnishes that pozole usually brings, which they gave me. As I'm pouring my pozole in a bowl .. there's so much meat and NO hominy. I mean NONE!! I was super disappointed! Flavor was there! Just not the main ingredient. I am not sure I'll try it again. If they didn't have anymore. I would have taken the news better than being disappointed at home. read more

Had a craving for Mexican food. Had seen Plaza before, decided to give it a try. The location is a bit deceiving. There is plenty of parking but the outside curb appeal is minimal. Once inside, I was greeted with a smile and seated. It has a nice pleasant ambiance with muted colors and music playing quietly. The service was quick. "I thought" I was ordering a small meal. To my surprise the Enchilada and Chili Relleno were huge portions served with rice and beans. They were delicious; I might add. The chips were warm and crunchy served with a spicy salsa. The Chicken soup was the show stopper. Absolutely amazing. It came with fresh lime, chopped onion and cilantro for me to add. I took home what I didn't eat and filled a one quart container. This was a nice surprise and a meal I ate for a couple days. The prices are reasonable and service was great. Will definitely go back with friends. read more

after a fair number of visits and a bunch of disappointments, i can finally say i don't recommend plaza mexico. exhibit a: the food is lackluster at best. like something is always off about it. exhibit b: the staff are inattentive and will probably only come over to take your order and bring your food. they will likely not come to ask you how the meal is (because see exhibit a). also, it's been getting progressively dirtier for the past 12 months. and i think the orange paint on the walls has morphed into a less appetizing shade. there's a lot of really good mexican food in lancaster. unless you have to, i wouldn't recommend plaza mexico. read more

I always love finding a good spot for authentic Mexican food. This was my first time here, and unlike a few other reviews, my experience was pleasant. I ordered the 3 taco combo, which I enjoyed. Everything was well seasoned and fresh. Would have been nice if we could mix and match the tacos on the combo, but I was advised that I couldn't. Found the spot through local flavor, which offered a $15 deal for $30 worth of food. The place was pretty empty and there's only one server, but the food is authentic and fresh. read more

I really, really, really hate to leave a negative review (especially now), but we were so disappointed. The online ordering process was very simple, but dishes were non-descript. When I showed up, the gal asked what my name was, "I don't have an order with that name." I had my text confirmation and email confirmation, but I had to verbally tell her my order. Thankfully they had the order, so I thought it was a fluke with mine. While I was waiting, two other people showed up and she said the same thing?? Why are we adding our information to the online order if they can't see it? My husband and I both ordered the Flautas De Pollo. Sadly, we had nothing positive to say. The chicken was dark meat (would have loved to have known that because I don't eat dark meat), very dry, and rubbery around the edges. The cheese sauce had coagulated within the ten minutes it took me to get home. The rice was flavorless. Both of us had to douse the flautas with the salsa verde sauce just to get them down. Had there been descriptions under the item, we would not have ordered the taco. My daughter ended up deconstructing it. Just like the rest of our food, the pork was flavorless. On the way home from DC, my wife found a Local Flavor coupon for Plaza Mexico,, so we stopped as we arrived back in town.. The menu is robust and all found something good, including Chorizoflautas, beef tacos, a steak burrito, and tacos alnpastor. Food arrived fairly quickly and was well prepared. Only gripe is that not everything on the menu is described well, so I had a mystery white sauce that I could not identify and wasn't too crazy about. But overall, everyone was happy. Except our waitress, who had zero apparent desire to be there or take our order. I gave several "thank yous" for water, silverware, etc. but all were unacknowledged. Not sure what was going on there. It was a decent food stop, but it is far enough from home to make it a return destination. read more

We've ordered Plaza Mexico twice through their site. The first time our order was fine and our food was great. However when we went to pick up our food the woman working the front desk looked annoyed that we were there to pick up our food. But, were there for take out so, who cares what the service is like right? So the next time we ordered, we ordered some tacos. The order came to 26 dollars online, order confirmed, everything seemed normal. So when we went to pick up our food - the total was 17 dollars. I checked the receipt and saw we were missing 2 tacos. I explained it to the (still rude, still annoyed) woman at the register, who was still annoyed that people were trying to pick up their food. She said that was the only order she had, so I pulled up the order on my phone and she just said that was the only order she had. Eventually, after some discussion, she finally, begrudgingly went to the kitchen to ask. Just to tell us that "she took them off since we didn't have it" So instead of calling us to tell us, and maybe substituting the order. They just took off the items they didn't have and we got less food than we were expecting. So, the food is good but the service is terrible. To be honest there are several other Mexican places on par with the food, and with much better service. read more

When this place opened eight years ago, it was wonderful. It has changed hands a couple times since and has still been reasonably good. I ordered takeout tonight and waited about 10 minutes past when it was due and still hadn't gotten the notice that it was ready. So I went inside and still had to wait another 10 minutes for my food while other people seemed to come in and order and pick up their orders and go. When mine was finally ready I thought it would certainly be hot right off the stove. However after I got home 10 minutes later my taco was completely cold. I warmed it up in the oven a bit while I snacked on my chips. It fell apart when I tried to eat it so I got a knife and fork and found that the tiny bit of beef in there had a lot of fat on it and there wasn't really anything else worth eating after my 3-4 bites of beef. I guess I'll have to stick to making my own Mexican food at home. read more

The host barely acknowledged us as we walked in & then it took over 25mins to get our drink orders in even though it was just us & one other table. Server looked annoyed as we finally got our order taken. Music was a little too loud to enjoy or even hear each other speak. After waiting another 30mins, we finally got our food and it wasn't bad but it definitely wasn't good enough to make up for the bad service. I've been on a Mexican food kick for some time, particularly lengua tacos (cow tongue). Don't knock it until you try it. I also got chorizo tacos and it was awesome. They also gave out party a complementary salsa and chips. Food felt authentic and super fresh. I could tell everything was homemade. I highly recommend. We just found out about this restaurant earlier this week thanks to a coupon from clipper magazine. About five of us went and ordered a bunch of different things. Everything was delicious and very authentic. The servers were very friendly. We did enjoy the food, though there were some slight misses. The seasoning was almost right, but some dishes could've used a little more salt, others could've used a little more lime. Overall we really enjoyed it and would recommend trying it out read more

I went in and ordered tacos, I was told it would take 25 minutes (not a big deal) while waiting for my food, there were 4 people who came in after me and ordered, they all got their food before I did. I waited for 45 minutes for tacos, and the tacos were not the best, far from it!! Tacos do not take 45 minutes to make period, they are quick and out usually in 10-15. Been here a few times but this time was the last time I'll ever go. My girlfriend placed an online order and the total was 30 dollars. I wasn't aware of this so when I arrived to pick it up I paid $44. Seemed pricy but oh well, their food is usually good. When I got home to eat it, half of the order was wrong and I realized they upcharged me by $14. I've had other bad experiences here before where I got someone else's order other than mine, but to mess up an order when it's literally right in front of you is unforgivable. Being hungry for Mexican food in the land of delicious home cooked food is no east feat. Driving down the seedy part of town past the 30 split lies Plaza Mexico, nestled next to a Dollar General store. My girlfriend and I are well versed in Mexican food, since it is our favorite. She got her default Chicken fajitas and I got the special which was described as "two pieces of steak, with beans, rice and flour tortillas", so I went with it. We also ordered guacamole and cheese dip. The salsa was decent and the chips weren't that bad, albeit a little stale. The guacamole was next, since it had to be made. It was ice cold, not sure how they pulled that one off, that too wasn't bad considering it was blender guac. The cheese dip was without a doubt from a jar. Same consistency, not to mention I heard the microwave door close and the timer go off. Out come the entrees. The fajitas were very nice looking, big slices of tomato, onion and green pepper served the usual way, it wasn't all that bad, maybe a 6 out of 10. The special came in a bowl, with a puffy parchment paper covering? I received 5 little nuggets of steak in a red colored liquid and about 15 various sized bay leaves, yuck. The beans and rice were without a doubt in my mind from next door at Dollar General. The rice even had those dehydrated peas and carrots with the wrinkles in it, if you've had cup o noodles, you know what I mean. I tried a bite and it tasted just like a box, the beans were the generic beans from a can, again from next door. We were the only people in there for the entire hour we ate, that seems to be the normal per other reviews. To sum it all up, if you know real Mexican food, avoid this place. if you think Chipotle and Qdoba are the greatest, you'll love it. read more

Very poor service. Ordered takeout... told 10 minutes. Showed up 20 minutes after placing order and paid in store. I sat for 25 minutes while my food sat in the bag on a counter in plain sight... the whole time. After waiting the 25 minutes I guess the hostess/waitress decided I had waited long enough, got up from her table where she was laughing with friends, and gave me the bag with my now cold food. She gave me the most insincere apology and immediately turned back and went to her friends before I could even say thanks. Food is pretty good, but I will not be coming back here after the worst service I have ever experienced. The restaurant is always very empty according to other posts and from my own experiences... and I guarantee the hostess is mostly responsible. This was the first place we tried while trying to find a new favorite Mexican restaurant, since we just moved to Lancaster. What started as a mediocre experience quickly became a bad experience, as the food was served and was just okay but was then paired with bad service. I don't had an enchilada/taquito combo and a burrito del pescado (fish). You had to buy the chips and salsa, which is always a negative in my mind. Don't let the location or partially lit sign fool you because the food here is really excellente! Five of us ate here for around $60 and we were all stuffed like burritos afterwards. My stars are based on the quality and price of the food. Don't let the decor keep you from entering the door. read more
