Stopped in here for lunch as we hadn't been to a La Bamba in years. Not since they closed the one on the south side. The menu is still the same and the food is still the same as I remember it being. Just a little more expensive as is everything. We were the only ones in there so it was quiet and the food was ready very fast. Steak super nachos had plenty of meat and toppings just wish they had more cheese sauce or the addition of shredded cheese would be nice Chorizo burrito was had flavor and was decently full however we are pretty sure they used to be more full. Overall decent experience wouldn't go out of my way to come here though. Building could use some love and renovations as well. read more

Unfortunately, I was very disappointed in my visit here. I've often driven past La Bamba but never stopped in. Today, I was working in the area and had only a few minutes for lunch, so I thought it would be quick to stop by here and get something to go. I will say that service was very friendly, it was just the food that was lacking. I ordered the vegetarian nachos, which was supposed to include cheese, beans, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, sour cream and salsa. What I actually received was a container that was mostly full of shredded lettuce, some very thin and watery sour cream, a small amount of very thin, watery, tasteless beans, and a few pieces of tomatoes and onions on top of some tortilla chips. I didn't find any cheese at all. What are nachos without cheese? There was a small cup of salsa on the side. The lettuce was not very fresh, some of it was brown. So basically it was a pile of not-so-fresh-lettuce on top of tortilla chips with thin watery sour cream at the bottom of the container. The salsa was actually decent, but it was truly the only ingredient in the box that was. Very disappointed with this experience. There are way too many good Mexican restaurants on this side of town to go here. It was my first time trying it and I figured it would be good since it has been here forever. We had the 2 chicken taco/quesadilla combo and a chicken burrito. I didn't receive the quesadilla but what we did get was all disgusting. We couldn't even finish it. It was absolutely no flavor to the chicken and it tasted like boiled chicken. The verde was terrible. I've had store bought verde with more flavor. I won't be returning here. read more

The staff are so friendly - and even at the late hour of midnight, all of my food was so hot and fresh. You get very generous portions for a great price. Tacos, well everything we've had over the past few years has always been good. Personally, I really enjoy the nachos with chicken, cheese, jalapenos, and lots of hot sauce. Lots to eat as with all their portions. As one of the reviewers noted avoid pork if missing your gall bladder which is hard for me to say since pork use to be my go to. This is my comfort food...my timeline. When you think of fast food, its success is largely predicated on consistency. In the US, this has a lot to do with chemical additives and how the food is processed prior to it arriving at your local BK, McD's, etc. This is why LaBamba is remarkable. I've been eating at LaBamba locations since 1989. Champaign, West Champaign, Bloomington, Normal, W. Lafayette, Chicago (Lakeview), Broad Ripple, and this location. For this to occur without factory like processing or additives from the NJ turnpike conglomerates, it's impressive. On First impression be taken aback because it's not the prettiest join it looks kind a desolate foggy windows the place does need work! Seriously how much does it cost to buy a toilet in the women's bathroom at Home Depot or Lowe's you can get one for 10 bucks they might even have some for five that's one of the little things you could do to aesthetically enhance the place. For those prices you can get two meals down the street at el maguey or better yet el taquero de la 46 located on high school and 30th st. La Bamba's was once just a place to soak up a little alcohol after a night out with the masses reppin AXE body spray....but now I go there with a neutral BAC to actually enjoy the food and the atmosphere. My "go to" Burrito order is as follows: Regular/Chicken/Everyting/Add Sour. The flour tortilla's are grilled almost to a crunch. The chicken is shredded and quite juicy. Shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and diced onions round off the fixins. The beans have good flavor without being too lardy. They have 3 incredible sauces available....the mild tomatillo, the hot red sauce, and the top secret super hot sauce that you get on special gut destroying ocassions. The service is slow because they make it fresh on a grill top. I'm pretty sure the guys behind the counter are making fun of me 90% of the time when I go there. I showed up close to 20 minutes after placing the order (they say it'll be ready 10-35 minutes after placing the order). The guys didn't receive my order, BUT they were super nice and quickly made my super burrito. So, this is most definitely not on them. They suggested I just call my order in for future orders. Maybe it works better at other locations. I found the super burrito to be incredibly filling. I just had a chicken burrito with everything + avocado. I knew I'd only even try to eat half for lunch, but even that left me in a food coma! For $10, that's a decent deal. I've tried it twice and I keep wishing it would be more flavorful.
