I'd hoped for a slightly darker chocolate, but the croissant was yummy, as well as the fruit tart, which my son destroyed, as he pretended not to hear my plea for a bite. I know, I'm too slow. The service was sufficient. The young women were polite, not rude or overly friendly (who knows what that means? Tbh I like when people are in my face peppy. Some people aren't into that, I guess). This bakery was around the area we were running errands, so we decided to stop by and see if it was any good. It is located in a small strip mall area in Silver Lake. My usual go to at a bakery is an eclair but today I decided to go with the crime puff and I'm glad I did. It was delicious! My husband got the chocolate eclair which had a chocolate filling. That one was good as well it was just a lot of chocolate. The prices were pretty high being that they were the same we pay at a bakery in downtown Seattle and this was all the way out by Everett which was a little weird. There is one case that is filled with desserts and another that's filled with breads so there isn't a lot of selection but what they do have looked good. I WISH I COULD EAT EVERY PASTRY THEY HAVE! The smells, the tastes...so DELICIOUS! Stopped in here one day while out in Silver lake.....this place is family owned and run! Everything is made with BUTTER, not oil or lard or crap...but real BUTTER! My mother used to make wedding cakes for a living, and she makes a mean lemon curd...well she makes a mean baked ANYTHING and I was terrified to try their lemon tart...What if it's worse? Oh, but what if it's BETTER!? It was amazing. Very close to moms, but it had a thicker, gritty texture to it that I actually fell in LOVE with. There is also a little dollop of what tasted like raspberry preserve on the bottom. Fantastic! Their almond croissant....my husband will fight me to the death for the last bite! They have a killer meal deal for around $12 or so...you get a pastry from the cooler (you get to pick from all but a small few, and I've paid for the ones not included, I actually like the others more), a sandwich or quiche AND a beverage! Amazing...can't beat it! Anytime my girlfriend and I spend the day together, we always start it off with some L'Artisan! I only have one caution here; since it is owned by a married couple, sometimes tempers can flare in a very tangible and audible way. It was my first time at L'Artisan French Bakery. I was delighted with quiet, small cafe feel, nice outdoor sitting by the green belt (although close to the road). Drove from Marysville on a "macaron hunt" with my son. We found 5 flavors of macarons here. Basic chocolate, vanilla, raspberry, pistachio and lemon. My son tried chocolate and said it was awesome. We bought 2 of each flavor. I then Took the rest to go. We got in the truck and I tried pistachio, it was really not good. Tasted almost stale and not like pistachio and all. I thought to myself as we were driving away..." were these even refrigerated?" No, they were on top of the refrigerated case under a dome. It is easy to pass by if you don't familiar with Silver Lake. There are lots of strip mall parking that you don't have to parallel park or find a spot on the street. My favorite is Almond Croissant is to die for. A thin layer of almond & sugar crust on top, soft & buttery inside. I also had a Brioche and that's good, too. However, the coffee quality and the service can be improved. There was an older lady at the counter who did not seem very pleasant. I'll try the under $10 lunch special next time. read more

Still a fan! My Husband and I ordered a wholesale order of Madeleines to be made here for our wedding favors. They offered to have them just in boxes so we package them ourselves, or to package them for us. We got the OPTION, which was fantastic because there was a significant price difference. They were super easy to communicate with, and there was no problem with pick up. They were paid for in advance and they didn't let me down with being late or burnt or something surprising. We even had a good deal of extras in case of something! Everyone at the wedding said they loved the madeleines, more so than the breakfast breads that were being served at the time. Also their seasonal items are so much fun during the holiday. During October/November/FALL the have a pumpkin cheese tart? with a cranberry and small sugar cookie garnish. I like to pick that up for noms later. They do special log cakes, tiny desserts for parties and special occasions and they're still just a popular place for us to get a bite for lunch with a fabulous dessert! We bought their apple tart and cream puff to go. The apple tart was super salty. I do not know what happened, maybe they accidentally used salt instead of sugar on the apple slices. It was so salty that was uneatable. The cream puff had a lot of cream in it and was very sweet. I think it be better if they are less generous with the pastry cream. L'Artisan is always amazing, the Fraisier cake is the best and seems to sell out quickly. We also love the lemon tart, mixed fruit tart, the mousse, the Snow White cake and all of the croissants are incredible. On the weekend we went most recently they had a specialty croissant with almond & chocolate and it was incredible; I was so mad my husband ate most of it. They do sell out of certain items relatively early, especially around holidays when they often have specialty desserts. We've also bought the pumpkin pecan praline tarts at thanksgiving which were a huge hit. They have individual desserts or you can buy a whole cake/tart. It is a bit expensive but totally worth it for the quality of desserts that they make. We've been going for probably about 10 years and they are always consistent with the quality of everything they make. Best french pastry and croissant in Snohomish County. Absolutely beautiful cakes, tortes, tarts and breads. Considering the quality and detail of their work, I think the value is fantastic. Since I live in Seattle, I've noticed that prices at L'Artisan are much more reasonable than comparable french patisseries. Highly recommended for that special event, wedding, or just because we all need to satisfy that craving and treat ourselves, especially during this time. On Friday, I ordered coffee eclairs and croissant via phone and picked them up yesterday - super hygenic and easy! Was tempted to buy more when I got there and saw all of the other gorgeous treats. Overpriced for sure. Environment feels cold. Staff are not friendly at all. I feel like they don't like their jobs. Tried this place 5-6 times and finally know I shouldn't go back. It's disappointing. Paid $14.75 for 2 16oz mochas! Starbucks cost less than that! Pastries are dry and way too many crumbs. Yummy French bakery full of delicious goodies. They have a wide variety of pastries and cakes along with sandwiches plus coffee/tea or soda. My favorite lunch menu that they offer is the Turkey Havarti sandwich. It's large enough, to take half home and eat later. The tarts are so so good. My all time favorite is a raspberry mousse cake! My review is specifically for their cakes. I have ordered several times and each time the cakes were delicious. Our guests usually ask were we got the cake from. I have tried their chocolate (Ganache) and the Snow White cake, both of which are delicious. They are moist, unlike some of the ones from other bakeries. I would definitely suggest ordering ahead of time if the cake is for a special occasion as they only have a few ready each day. I've been going here for a few years and if I were rating the food alone I'd give it 5 stars (the Frasier cake, Napoleon, and Brie sandwich are superb). However, the customer service at l'Artisan is abyssmal and it starts with the owner/head baker (the French guy in the back who makes everything). The bad service trickles down to his wife (who works the counter) and to the young help he's employed. And it isn't just one occasion I've experienced poor treatment -- it's been most everytime I've visited in the past year. So overall I give l'Artisan 1 star. One time my wife and I had just come from Starbucks and had some coffees in hand and stopped by to buy pastry for breakfast to take home. I was told by the owner that we could not be served unless we removed our Starbucks coffees from the premises first. Are you kidding me??? Is this guy new to Seattle? Because most anywhere you go in Seattle someone is carrying a cup of coffee and nearly every establishment I've gone to doesn't mind. I'm not going to l'Artisan for the coffee, I'm going because IT'S A BAKERY. Secondly, and this has happened on MULTIPLE occasions, I've called to order a Frasier cake. One time I was told the owner isn't making them currently because strawberries are out of season. Ok, fair enough. Then another time I called when strawberries were in season and I was told he's out of marzipan -- is this my problem? I'm willing to buy an expensive large Frasier cake for a birthday and he can't muster the energy to call his supplier and get some marzipan? The next time I tried I called in late March to pre-order a Frasier cake for my wife's birthday in April -- was told they aren't making them yet, strawberries aren't in. Called again, was told they'd start making Frasier cakes next week, middle of April. My wife's birthday is April 12 that I really needed the cake, their response was "well, we don't know when next week, but not Sunday, April 12." I'm done with this place -- the Frasier cake must be among their best selling and high priced items -- the owner of l'Artisan demonstrates repeatedly that customers aren't his top priority. read more

Ours seemed to resent having to be at work that saturday morning and frustrated that we couldn't get on with our selection. Really. You work at a treat store, not the DMV. Can i suggest the owners of this shop train their employees about hospitality and that you are about to make someone's day better with yummy treats? I didn't have a problem with the food.
