Based on Yelp reviews I decided to visit. I was a little nervous because of some of the things that people had said about the place. However I've gone twice now and have had positive experiences both times! It is a little small, so weekends and lunch time it was kind of crowded. I was able to get a seat the first time and the second time I was doing take-out anyway. The lunch special is where it's at, $12 buys you a drink, sandwich and delicious pastry! They have lots of french pastry items, beautiful croissants, eclairs, yum. I hate to recommend this place because I'd like to keep it all to myself, however I think the secret is getting out whether I like it or not! read more

We have stopped here a few times for bread and pastry. The French bread is excellent, as well as croissants. My husband said the creme puffs were good as well. I have tried a few cakes, which were ok but not my favorite. I just thought they were a little bland, even though They looked beautiful. This place has amazing pastries and cakes! I even got my wedding cake from them, it was to die for with raspberry mouse filling. I love the almond croissants and the pain chocolate. First of all, this bakery is in a strange strip mall and has an interesting entrance. The bakery itself is pretty small and not somewhere you can comfortably eat lunch or stay for a cup of coffee (in my opinion). I purchased a chocolate croissant, lemon tart, cream puff and raspberry mousse. I definitely would not buy another chocolate croissant. It was full of air and not flaky, I could get better croissants at Costco (I actually like them!). The raspberry mousse was okay, I had a bite and didn't really enjoy the taste. I feel like they could have incorporated a different element, instead of just tart raspberry mousse and cake (was it ladyfingers?). I guess the only thing that saved this review from being one star is the cream puff and lemon tart. I actually really liked the lemon tart but it may be TOO sour for others-- I'm a fan of tart treats. The cream puff was okay, nothing to rave about. Several years ago, I stopped at L'Artisan while driving through the area and can honestly say that life has never been the same again. Every birthday, anniversary, Mothers' Day and just-because-it's-the-second-Tuesday-of-the-month since that fateful day have been marked by treats from this dessert heaven. Unlike most traditional bakeries, the goodies from L'Artisan are never sickeningly sweet or topped with pounds of sugary frosting. The shortcake-like base for many of the cakes is perfectly buttery and crumbly, the chocolate ganache rich but never overwhelmingly so, and the raspberry mousse delightfully light and fluffy. The baguettes are always fresh, crispy and golden brown on the outside, soft on the inside. I've only tried the almond croissant from their breakfast pastry assortment, but it was one of the best I've ever had. Only downside to L'Artisan is that it is closed on Mondays. Although I suppose even the French baker needs a day off once a week. In response to the reviewers who are disappointed with the slightly less than cheerful service, I say you're there to eat fantastic pastries, not make friends with the staff. Service makes no difference as far as the quality of the food is concerned. Go here. Get the the Raspberry Mousse, the Chocolate Truffle or the Lemon Tart. Or better yet, just get all of them. read more

Love going to this bakery for their delicious, unique desserts but I was extremely pleased with the service I got on one of their most busy time of the year, Mother's Day! Pre-ordered two cakes a day before Mother's Day. Picked up both cakes Mother's Day morning with no problem, cakes were made just as I ordered. I was very satisfied with the outcome of the cakes and custom writing on them. Employees were quick to bring my orders out, despite the busy morning rush! The food here is fantastic! They only have a very few sandwiches to choose from and all are delicious but that isn't what I go for. It's pastries, lush and delicious. I have yet to find anything anywhere in Snohomish County that can match them. Note to reviewer who dinged the restaurant for not having panini and cheesecake: Ummm.. this is a French bakery. You can still buy cakes and desserts by the slice, and every single one of them is delicious, but it's no longer a good lunch break option. You want to savor every melting mouthful. Ordered a cake for my bf birthday and it fed quite a few ppl. It's more in Silver Lake, and not the easiest to find. But don't give up-you have to try. The pastries are delicious but a bit pricey. The eating area is very small so not good for groups bigger than 2. They have two tables that for groups more than 2. The service is very slow. Not sure why since the pastries are already made. Don't order a large cappuccino because you get served in a 16oz to go cup and only about a 1/3 is filled with coffee, the rest is foam. Best bet: take the pastry to go if you don't mind the prices. read more

If you're looking for a real French bakery in the north end not only is this your ONLY choice (that place by QFC in Mill Creek is NOT French despite its name), but it is a GREAT choice! I'm a true francophile, and these pastries and bread rank right up there with those I've enjoyed in many Parisian bakeries. Yum! I would, however, love to see a little more authenticity in the sandwiches, which are mostly American sandwich ideas done on baguettes. I'd love a great Jambon Cru, for example. The lack of a fryer also means they can't make one of my kids' favorite treats from bakeries in France: "les chouquettes' which disappoints them each time we go, as they always ask. It would also be fabulous if they at least endeavored to hire some folks who maybe speak some French, as one of our favorite things to do at Le Panier at Pike Place is chat with staff in French - they always seem to have at least one person working who speak the language. That last point really isn't a downside to the place, it would just be a fun addition. I also agree with the reviewer who said it feels like a hospital cafeteria in there, there really is no ambiance at all, but the food more than makes up for any of that...it really is FANTASTIC! read more

The desserts that I particularly love are the snow white, the mocha tart and a fall seasonal - the pumpkin tart which is like a very light pumpkin cheesecake. This is the real thing! Well, I take that back as I've never been to France, but it fulfills all my expectations with a deeper understanding of what croissants, eclairs, millefeuilles &c. are supposed to be than any other bakery in this area. That such a treasure should be tucked away in the corner of a south-Everett strip mall boggles the mind but there it is, five minutes away. Take the lemon tart, for example: as beautiful as a jeweled egg with its perfectly browned tiny meringue and raspberry decoration and miroir glaze. I've been avoiding it, thinking it was too pretty to actually taste good, but I tried it last week -- so good it will make you cry. The perfect balance of sweet, tart and rich, with a soft and tender crust, it finished with an ocean of regret, both that it was gone and that every other lemon tart I've eaten in the past thirty-some years was somehow debased by the experience. None other has made me so blissfully happy. I've never really appreciated eclairs, but here the coffee eclairs, perfectly filled with coffee pastry cream and iced with coffee icing (is that real fondant?) are a real discovery, the bitterly fragrant coffee just cutting through enough to atone for the sinful richness of the cream . The Napoleon is everything I could ask for, the Fraisier another perfect jewel of art that tastes even better than it looks(Dacqouise biscuit, forsooth! and pale green marzipan), the almond croissant a flaky cloud of powdered sugar and chewy almond -- exquisite. Several of their puff pastries are glazed with a gelatinous substance that puzzles me -- is this for decoration (they're very pretty), textural contrast, preservation? I don't recall seeing it before, still deciding whether I like it. Couldn't give a fig for the customer service and ambiance concerns voiced elsewhere, I've always been treated kindly, the place is pristine and smells like heaven. Given the superlative nature of the goods, which are the main thing, to say nothing of the miracle of this bakery's existence itself, it's churlish to complain. And, truthfully, I'd willingly endure a gauntlet of verbal abuse and any indignities of place for more of these lovely pastries, a Godsend in the north-end wilderness. read more

I haven't been to this shop personally, but my friend got me an almond pear pastry tart here! It was good enough for me to write a review about this place :) I thought that the pasty was pretty well made and tasty! The tart crust was pretty good, but what made the tart was that the base they used was made with real almonds. I could taste the small almond chunks, which I really enjoyed, as I am a HUGE almond fan! The sliced pears on the tart were a nice touch, but I felt that slices were pretty thin, and too syrup-y sweet. Nevertheless, I still thought it was a great pastry. I will re-review this place when I actually go and visit it! read more

This bakery is a nice little hidden gem located in the Everett Silver Lake area! The pastries are freshly made, savory and sweet but not overdone with sugar. I've also bought many cakes and they are beautiful and almost modern contemporary looking compared to the grocery market cakes that are packed with hideous flowers. You gotta try it! read more
