I can't believe there are so many good reviews here. Honestly, this L'A was a waste of money. Our first day in Rome we tried L'Archetto and were disappointed in every way possible. 1. We had to get up after 10 minutes to ask for water glasses after the waiter brought water to the table. That was our first hint. 2. After that, even by Italy's standards, the waiter ignored us and was relatively obnoxious when he did finally make it over. 3. The food was mediocre at best. I had the pasta boscaiola, and my family ordered a wide variety of pastas. We all tried each other's. Everyone found the food to be bland. 2 stars / 5. 4. THE HOUSE WINE IS WATERED DOWN. Seriously. It tastes like dishwater. They bring it out in a carafe so you can't tell as easily. 5. There are always tourists eating here. I wanted to warn them every time I walked past. Don't fall into this trap!! Go to That's Amore! around the corner, or Roma Historia further up the way. Both are much, much better. read more

My bf & I went spent 9 days in Rome during December 2012 and this was our first dining experience in Italy. The food here is fantastic and the service was friendly. It is hidden in a narrow street so it may be difficult to find. I recommend asking a local for directions which is what we did. We loved the pasta dishes in cream sauce here - most notable would be the vodka sauce, carbonara & prosciutto/peas/broccoli combo. The thin crust pizzas cooked in a wood oven here is excellent. Crust is chewy and plenty of toppings. Our favorite was the prosciutto & fungi pizza. Pizza's are huge so we had to take leftovers back to the hotel with us. Their panna cotta is to not be missed! Perfect texture and is served with a drizzle of raspberry sauce. Overall, we loved this place so much that we came back 3 times! Very affordable (10-12 euros per dish) and authentic. I highly recommend this place and you won't be disappointed. Will stop by here again if we make it back to Rome in the future. It's that good! read more

Had a bad experience here. Service became worse with time. At first it just seemed a bit slow. Then we realized that the waiters were grumpy and rude. I've never met a server with such a frowny face before. Throughout our meal whenever surrounding tables were cleared, half empty glasses of water were flung and emptied right by our table (outdoors). FLUNG about 4 feet away with water droplets reaching my toes. What in the WORLD!! Fast forward to the end: they tried to over charge us in our final bill. I understand how stores can get away with this type of behavior in touristy areas but I hope YOU avoid this restaurant after reading my experience here. The food itself was not bad at all. Stopped in for lunch. Pizza was just ok. Wouldn't accept credit cards so had to pay with cash and they took entirely too long to return with our change. Seemed as though they were waiting us out to see if (being the tourists that we were) we'd get impatient and just leave them a large tip. Lots of better options for lunch in our opinion. read more

L'Archetto is, in my experience, one of the best places in Rome for pasta. There are more than 100 different sorts of sauces, some very creative, but always respectful of tradition, served in an alley slightly out of the busy centre. This restaurant offers a nice and quiet atmosphere for you to enjoy some authentic Italian spaghetti, close to the Trevi fountain. For those who like to taste, you can ask for a single plate with 3 different kinds of pastas! The place is always extremely busy and the service is not the friendliest, but if you value food quality over smiles this is definitely the place to go. Red wine glasses are generous and very good. Great little non-touristy place tucked away on a side street. It was filled with locals both times we went and stays open & lively until 1 AM. It's an easy walk from Trevi Fountain but far enough off the beaten path for a more authentic dining experience without a 'barker' in your face trying to sell you on the food. The menu is both simple (two main choices: pizza or spaghetti) and complicated (there are about 5 pages of pizzas and 100 different spaghetti options). Everything we had was delicious and reasonably priced. The highlight was the house-made Tiramisu, which came in its own mini mason jar. There are plenty of seating options including an outdoor area and a fairly large downstairs (which has a nice ambience to it.) If we didn't have reservations at another restaurant one night and dinner plans on others, we probably would have eaten here every night as it was only a couple buildings away from our apartment. There are actually quite a few restaurants called L'Archetto in Rome and I'm not sure that the recent one star reviews are in the right spot. The wait staff all seemed perfectly reasonable & professional, and the house wine we received was definitely full strength. We ordered extra based on a recent review saying it was watered down... and ended dinner pretty tipsy! Would definitely return. Its always a pleasure to find a hidden gem so close to a major attraction. read more

I went on the Free Walking Tour of Rome, and our tour guide recommended this restaurant to us. I came with a couple of other people in our tour and we were ordered three different pastas, which they kindly split for us so that we could try as many of the pastas as we wanted. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!! If I could give less than 1 star I would! They have visa,MasterCard and other credit cards posted on the door but then tell you they can't accept them. After my meal they told me they only accept cash and as an American traveling I don't Carry much euro on me because my travel credit card is much more secure. They take you outside to an ATM that over charges and is a terrible conversion and charges a massive convenience fee. When I spoke with the man behind the desk he just kept saying there is "a problem with the line" he didn't even bother checking. He was extremely rude and condescending and this place is a complete scam. Don't waste your time coming to this terrible restaurant in such a beautiful city. read more

I came with 15 co-workers for a team dinner. I wouldn't come back. The waiter was coming up with excuses when we told them we would pay by credit card, but eventually caved. I had a bruschetta pomodoro, and it was OK. The steak though, a bisteca, was awful. Dry, unseasoned and cold. I just couldn't finish it. I wondered if it was microwaved. The side of potatoes "al forno" was almost OK, but most were burned small pieces. When we asked for the bill, they gave us a torn piece of paper with scribbled incomprehensible notes. Certainly not valid in any expense report. And last but not least service was very slow. We stayed there for 3h. Usually our team dinners don't go over 2h. Friends who had pasta were mostly satisfied. That's the only reason I'm not giving this review one star only. read more

Our male waiter was fine but the woman who works here was extremely rude. She would literally get fed up with us trying to ask about the menu and walk away mid conversation. The food was mediocre at best and when we tried to pay with a visa card (which the door says they accept), they said the machine was not working and only take cash. I understand this happens, but you're supposed to let people know this before seating them. So they then held my wife hostage as I had to go to an atm to get cash. Horrible horrible place. You're better off going to a McDonald's or starving. read more

They had a great variety of food and different pastas. We both got 2 pasta dishes. One of us is a picky and plain foods eater and we both thought the dishes we got were just that plain. L'Archetto was the best restaurant I went to while visiting Rome. It is a place for excellent pasta with a wild array of sauces and pastas, prepped to delicious perfection. It is an intimate restaurant and can be found in a quiet alley and almost could be overlooked unless you had an experienced friend guide your way. It was so utterly delightful that I capped off my trip with a second sitting for dinner the night before my flight back home. Since coming back to the states, I have spent hours laboring in the kitchen in flailing attempts at recreating the numerous Berninis of the pasta world. Alas, I will have to dream of L'Archetto until my next trip abroad to the Eternal City. read more

Best lobster cream sauce spaghetti I've ever had. It's called the Chanel under the spaghetti section--first page. The pasta section on the menu can seem overwhelming but it's also all in English. We also had the olive bruschetta and artichoke bruschetta, both amazing, warm and crunchy. The house wine wasn't bad but the bottle of Chardonnay was Santa Margherita, one of my favorite brands. I've never written a review but felt compelled after our very frustrating experience last night. I'd been looking forward to visiting this restaurant after a recommendation, thinking it was a token non-touristy spot with spaghetti that could satisfy us foodies. Food was meh, this review is about the service. After reading of others' same experiences I wanted to share: 1) house wine is super watered down - tacky, have a little pride in what you're selling, 2) hand written bill with 15% service charge we've never seen in Rome and "broken" credit card machine - we were going to pay cash anyway, the scheme was off-putting and predictable, 3) while we still had full glasses of wine and some left in the carafe, we were told we had 5 minutes to leave as a foursome who had just arrived was waiting. What a bs way to treat good customers, the last part totally ruined our experience and left me so disappointed to have not taken our money and time to a restaurant who would have graciously allowed us to enjoy their food and wine with great Italian hospitality. read more

This place was amazing. It was everything that I dreamed an Italian Spaghetteria would offer. It was our first day walking down the beautiful cobblestone allies of Rome when we saw a priest recommending this place to someone else. That's all we needed...we grabbed a seat outdoors and was immediately served perfectly crunchy bread to start. Ordered the house wine at $5 E per 1/2 Liter and we were off. We also ordered a plate of simple pasta and then a pizza. All wonderful. The wine was so amazing and you just can't beat the price.The servers were very attentive and polite. We'll definitely be back to try out other offerings. I can only give it four stars because it was a quick lunch. I'll need to test out the dinner to really be able to rate my experience. One of the best restaurants I've been to in Rome. There are over 100 different types of pasta dishes on the menu- amazing! Prices are very reasonably and the quality is very high. I went with group of 7 and had no trouble getting a table on a Thursday night. The majority of seating is in the lower level, so there is no view or window space, but it not as noisy or loud as most restaurants. I had the Refaruk, a shrimp and garlicy pink sauce pasta dish, and it's one of the best I've had in Rome to date. The seafood is only available fresh on Tuesday's and Friday's, FYI. Because there are so many options on the menu, I would recommend asking the waiter what is good, especially for that particular day. A great place to share excellent pasta dishes. Favorite place to eat in Rome. I'm very confused by reviews saying it was touristy, because it was the farthest thing. It was super small and quaint and extremely authentic. The menu is HUGE, with (I'm not even kidding) a hundred different pasta options. They also had really great other options. The spaghetti was perfectly cooked and Al dente. The other reviews on here are surprising to me. Service is different in Europe than the US, don't expect it to be like home. Anyways, we love this restaurant! We eat here every time we're in Rome. The food is amazing and there are so many choices. The location is great, it's near Trevi Fountain but on a side street. Outdoor seating is available on the street, I recommend sitting outside if you can, it's the perfect place to watch the world go by while enjoying a glass of wine.
