Stoped in this evening 10 minutes prior to closing time - the girl working the desk was quick to tell me they closed at 8p ( looking at the clock it's 7:48) and if I wanted to tan for FOUR minutes I was welcome to - but could only go for FOUR minutes because they close at 8 , she stated I could come back tomorrow. ( Out of town Tomorrow) - I told her tanning for 4 minutes was kind of useless. It took more time to be rude then it did for her to check me in .. read more

I was doing a little research today on tanning and memberships etc.. The lady at the counter was very informative. Excellent customer service. Explained all the beds and services. Etc. She didn't judge me for asking questions. She even asked me questions so she could give me better information. Great store rep. This girl even check every bottle of lotion for a specific ingredient I was looking for. I really like the customer service here. (Its rare at a shop. that offers skin deep services that you don't have skin deep employees that are super judgemental. Here its not an issue. ) I've heard bad things about cleanliness. But we will see I haven't tanned yet. I hope theyre wrong it seems weird to me that a place can have such good customer service and not have a clean facility. The girl at the front desk waved a women past me to help her first, even though I had been in line and was in a rush. Resulting in me waiting even longer for the bed. I always go to the lake Zurich location (and even tip staff occasionally because their service is great), they change their bulbs much more frequently anyways, but I was rather dissatisfied with the level of unprofessionalism at the crystal lake location. The place is dark, dreary, and dirty. I found used towels on the floor and the girl barely wiped down the bed prior to my tan. She was also rude, and acted like she couldn't be bothered with me as a customer. I've been tanning for about 20 years at different companies throughout the United States during my travels. This is by far, the worst tanning salon I have ever experienced. Never again. read more

The place is filthy. First time I went in I did the stand up in the first room and there was hair all over the floor. Then I did the bed in room 10 and the floor mat was soaked and there was water on the floor. I will say the girls working are all very nice! Extremely helpful on choosing a bed but I can't get over how dirty it was. read more

I had issues with a spray tan and was very unhappy as I was getting ready to head out of town for a wedding. After getting wind of my frustration, the manager called me to rectify the situation & be sure that I was a happy customer going forward. I am always willing to give second chances and I will definitely be returning to LA Tan. I was at this location yesterday, I went In For their "$20 cocktail tan" that was NOT 20. Now I have been to multiple la tan locations and NEVER had an issue till now that is. I walked in and waited (was not greeted with a high or any acknowledgement) the lady behind the desk was telling a customer the packages so I continued to wait patiently the customer even told the lady to help me and she was rude enough to say "i don't know what she even wants to I'll just finish with you" I continued to wait. Now comes my turn and I ask for the cocktail tan special she says it's $20 you know I said yes that's fine then says that the light and medium colors are included in the 20 tan but dark is not. She takes my name and starts to ring me up and then says oh no medium is not included it's $5 more, now this is slightly annoying because nowhere does it say it will cost more the website does not have a fine print or anything and she obviously just told me it was included. So I still agree to pay the $5 additional for the medium and I walk to the back. I get to the back and it smells so bad! I had such a hard time breathing because it smelled like Mildew or a backed up sewage drain. I will NEVER come back to this location and hope you choose wisely when considering this as your tanning destination! read more

I use this place mainly because it's close to home. The girls who work here are not professional at all. I understand it's it's a tanning salon, but being a professional myself I'd expect the same from any business. I would like to add that this place is so dirty. They REALLY need to step it up on their cleanliness. read more

This place literally sucks. The service is crappy. The girls don't explain things in full and just expect you to know what you're doing on your own. And if you do something such as, injure your knee and you find yourself on crutches, unable to tan in a tanning bed. Don't expect LA Tan to be nice about it. They'll take the amount of the membership out of your account and refuse to pay it back. Worst service I've ever experience in my life. If it was an option I'd give it 0 starts because they're honestly that bad. If you plan on going to LA tan, change your mind. read more

I'm reluctant to even give this place three stars because of how frustrating my experiences here have been. But, I'll give them the benefit and hope they improve. I first came here last summer and signed up for spray tan packages. The spray tans here weren't good at all leaving uneven blotches all over me. I believe they blamed it on the new spray tanners they got, but after a few tries, I went back to using St. Tropez. I started coming back here this January to get a base tan for a trip. The girls are nice and friendly, but maybe too busy. Maybe they need more people working there. No one showed me how to start the last two beds I used. The first one was fine, but in the second bed I ended up pressing the wrong button which resulted in a 20 minute delay while the girl reset the bed. A simple instruction would have prevented this. And, I'm not new to tanning. I used to tan all the time at other salons before getting concerned about my skin. I loved the LA Tan in Tinley Park and went there for years. The Dekalb one sucked and I went elsewhere while in Dekalb. Another issue with my last bed here- the glass was taped. I guess it was cracked and they taped it together? Geez. The monthly packages seem a little expensive for the quality of beds you get. Next time I'd shop around and go elsewhere. read more

The LA Tan in Crystal Lake is the most disgusting tanning salon in Crystal Lake. I would know, I used to work there. All of the other LA Tan locations are one hundred times nicer and cleaner. The only good thing about this location are the prices. This location is dirty. When I first started working there, there was dried lotion on the walls and old gum stuck to the floors. Part of the reason it looks the way it does is because it is inside of an old video rental store, Dollar Video. The owner should have spent money on making the tanning portion look nicer and not like a throwback from 1975. But, he refused to spend money on anything which is why it never looked nice and we always had the cheapest of cheap towels, cleaning supplies and beds. There are also many horror stories of thigns customers (especially male customers) have done while in the rooms that we have had to clean up after that upon hearing would make you never want to tan again. The beds at the Crystal Lake location are all very old. I can understand hanging on to a bed for maybe 3 or 4 years because they are expensive, but every single bed was old. The bulbs in the beds also didn't get changed as often as they should have. Typically you are supposed to to change the bulbs when they are at 70%. Our bulbs wouldn't get changed until way past that, and also when at least one bulb went out. A person is not going to get their optimum tan with bulbs that are at 85%. A better suggestion for them would be to instead of have 30 small rooms, cut that down to half, sell back some of the beds (there are places that will take used beds), sell the other ones and buy newer beds. Also, knock some walls down and make the rooms bigger. We had maybe 8 regular beds - the lowest level. In all the time that I worked there, none were ever all being used at the same time. That number should be cut in half. If the owner would put some money into the store (or even both stores) to make it look nicer and more presentable, they would get even more clientele. Or, even put LA Tan in its own seperate store. Go to the Fox River Grove location and then go to the Crystal Lake one. It is embarrassing how much nicer it is than its Crystal Lake counterpart. Fox River Grove has new beds and is decorated very nicely and looks more upscale than Crystal Lake. The only good thing about LA Tan - even the Crystal Lake location - are the prices. For the type of bed you are tanning in (most places have higher pressure beds than LA which means you get a darker tan) it is very reasonably priced. I can't remember off the top of my head the individual prices for the bed as it has been so long since I've worked or been there, but the monthly package for the basic regular bed is $10/month for unlimited tanning (once per day). After that each package goes up $10 higher for each bed that is stronger. Stay away from the Crystal Lake location. If you want a great tan and a nice salon, go to the Fox River Grove location, or venture into Lake In the Hills. Executive Tan is the best tanning salon I've been to. But that will be saved for another review... read more
