We love this place so much, we went two weeks in a row! FOOD: Delicious! The presentation of their rolls/dishes are top notch, even better than we're used to seeing. The complimentary edamame and hot tea makes this place stand out from the rest. AMBIANCE: Relaxing, intimate, warm, and welcoming. We love the videos of Tokyo playing in the background. SERVICE: Excellent. We had two different waiters/waitresses each time and they were both so quick and courteous. COST: I'd say this place is $$, not $$$ as noted currently. Absolutely love this place, I am very glad a great sushi spot like this one opened up nearby. I have never had a bad experience here and have quickly become a regular. First the food is really amazing, everything tastes really fresh and well prepared, the presentation on some of the dishes can be really great too. My favorite rolls here are probably the spicy albacore and the spicy tuna roll. All the sushi I've tried here so far has been great and the same can be said for the non-sushi dishes. I personally love the Katsu curry they serve here, and the portions you get are really good. I would actually consider this place one of the cheaper sushi spots in Pasadena but it still has really great high quality sushi. Their lunch specials make it all the more worth it as well. The service here is also great, and the owners are really nice! They are attentive and friendly and make you feel at home for sure. The vibe inside is really calm and quiet even when it's busier which is great if you're just trying to relax and eat your food. I would highly recommend this place if you're in the area and not sure which of many sushi spots to pick in the city. Also parking is really easy with a lot directly behind it. read more

So happy to find this fantastic sushi spot right in Pasadena. Japanese food is my favorite cuisine, but I am a vegetarian. I have been to a popular restaurant in town that didn't have anything I could eat. Not the case here. This restaurant is on the corner with a nice open sushi bar and comfortable seating. They bring you edamame to start which was very nice. Then I ordered a house salad, which was topped with a deliciously refreshing ginger dressing. I ordered two avocado rolls which were garnished with sesame seeds. The rolls here are huge! You really get very generous portions and I couldn't even finish both of my rolls. I also highly recommend the plum wine. I am not a big drinker and only like certain brands of plum wine. This local brand was new to me and absolutely delicious! Sweet and refreshing. Plus I have to say the service was great and our waiter has a great personality. Plus this is a short walk to the movie theater so a perfect dinner spot for a dinner & movie date night. We visited Kyushu Sushi and sat at the two seater looking out at Colorado Blvd and it felt like we were in a small sushi spot in San Francisco or Hells Kitchen or Seattle...it was fun. It seems a family affair in Kyushu Sushi between the chef, the waiter the lady preparing the tables. The sushi was delicious. Got the mixed sashimi $80 and some other items. Best pieces were the salmon and kanpachi. The tunas were a tad fishy for my taste... the uni tasted ever so slightly old...didn't taste quite fresh... might have been a few days old due to its gonad-ness... salmon was fatty and buttery... not to be a Negative Nancy but I personally did not find the combination of the uni and hokkaido scallop satisfying. It felt like they were both competing for my taste buds. Because each of these pieces are typically such rich and premium items, they really deserve to shine on their own... but that's just my opinion. I think combining them kind of dilutes their uniqueness in addition to it confusing my taste buds. The caviar touch was nice and pretty but not really necessary. The Hamachi or yellowtail carpaccio cilantro jalapeno wasn't bad... I wouldn't get it again but it wasn't bad. The rising yellowtail roll was probably one of the most decent dishes of what we had ordered. Really enjoyed the sauce on the rim. In my personal opinion there's a bit too much cilantro garnish.. and the jalapeno slices should be wider... I do like the thinness of the cut, just wish it was a wider cut. The small cuts are a bit inconvenient because I have to pick up the pieces several times with my chopstick versus just picking it up once if it was a wider cut. And I think by slicing the jalapenos in to so many little pieces it kind of takes away from its potency. Also they served 2 types of wasabi, the generic puddy bright green one and then a darker one with thick consistency (doesn't pack as much heat but very tasty). Customer service was very good. They're very nice people so please be nice in return. As Americans, we don't have the best reputation in terms of patrons - we are stereotyped as entitled, self-centered and impatient. This permeates the overall business sector and can affect quality of service received. As such, when we do get customer service that is nice, professional, and patient it is our duty to also reciprocate if we want this type of service to continue. Like the good ol golden rule that seems forgotten in the American fabric... treat others like how you want to be treated. Subscribing to this can go a long way in our society. That said, they're not the best sushi restaurant in town and I probably won't return just because there's a lot of other sushi options to pick from esp in this region. What a great place! Super attentive and nice servers, they gave free edamame (I think for the new opening). The food all tasted good and was fresh and was plated very beautifully. It feels like a solid Japanese restaurant and the TV playing videos of Japan reminds me so much of my trip there, it was wonderful. I can see this being a great date place. My friend got a lot of things, including a toro with gold flakes! Too fancy for me. I got the dinner chicken teriyaki and for $20 the amount of chicken they gave was insane! The salad was so good that my friend ordered her own. I definitely want to try it again next time I'm in Pasadena. It looks like their lunch special bento boxes are a super deal. read more

Wife and I heard there was a new sushi place in town and decided to check this place out! Pretty neat. The waitresses and owner/manager were super attentive and sweet, while the sushi chef was doing his thing, but still able to be social. I got a double salmon tempura bomb roll while my wife got an unagi don. No complaints there. Not gonna knock off any points BUT ambiance wise the lighting wasn't the best. Felt a bit cold and sterile. Kind of hurt our eyes--it was a bluish/fluorescent light all around. I think the place would be perfect if the light was a bit warmer. Would make it feel more intimate. I gave Kyushu Sushi another shot after a bad experience with their tonkatsu ramen, and I'm so glad I did! I ordered the Salmon Don this time, and it was amazing. The salmon was super fresh and paired perfectly with the rice. Even the salad was better than last time--not drowning in dressing, which I really appreciated. As always, the customer service was great. The staff is super friendly and attentive, which makes the experience better every time. I'm still hesitant to try the tonkatsu ramen again, but I'm really happy with how good the sushi and sashimi are. I'll definitely be back to try more! I tried this place a handful of times. Menu lists real crab for rolls but it's always imitation. That's hella bait and switch. Chicken and Pork Katsu is not seasoned.. doesn't seem marinated. I visited Japan and had gyukatsu and tonkatsu so I know what I'm talking about. Plain meat with batter.. no bueno. Prices are decent and the workers are friendly. I think Chinese owned though, so I question the authenticity. I think we're on a break now. Maybe i try again next year. read more

What a pleasant surprise! I was not expecting such well crafted food in a space which has housed casual dining venues. I started with a few pieces of of Nigiri, and then the assorted tempura which was perfectly fried and included plenty of vegetables and 4 large shrimp. I finished with a rainbow roll . The rolls were flavorful and fresh. A few of my favorites were the spicy scallop and the tuna. It's some of the best sushi on this side of Pasadena so would highly recommend! I have been to the other close by sushi places, like Matsuri, GoGo Sushi, but this place has the right vibe for just staying close to home.
