My nephews choose Kyoto every year for their birthday dinner and their entry into their teenage years was no different. The service is always friendly. The show at the hibachi table is always entertaining. The food is always delicious! They even sing for their birthdays with the accompaniment of a small gong as well as give them fried ice cream with a candle. Everyone had a great time as we always do. The restaurant is even able to modify meals for those who are gluten and soy free, though those can it be prepared on the hibachi, they have to come from the kitchen. read more

We love the hibachi takeout here!! It's such a big portion and the food is just delicious. Food is ready quickly and on time. Staff are always friendly. Our modifications and special requests are always followed carefully, which is appreciated especially for takeout. Only wish is that they had outdoor seating/a patio! read more

Been to Kyoto many times and every time I go, the food has been consistent and I enjoy my meal. The Hibachi is always fun, staff if friendly and welcoming, make you smile, customers are always clapping and excited... during Hibachi experience the Chef tosses food and Sake for you to catch with your mouth. I don't know how they do the wonderful, skillful things they do but it's always so impressive. The ambiance is Japanese, dim lighting. There is a small bar, booth seating around the side that is sectioned off nicely apart from a larger seating area and Hibachi area. They're great for parties, celebrating birthdays. Plenty of parking, I recommend reservations and calling ahead they get very busy. You should know that even if you don't experience the Hibachi, they automatically add a $12.99 (18%) service charge to your bill in addition to you leaving a tip. read more

We did hibachi. It was awesome!!! We ordered a spicy crab roll as well. The workers were so nice and friendly. I loved the lighting above the bar I forgot to take a picture. It looked like there was one tv in there which I didn't mind cause I rather have conversation with my husband. read more

Just got out of there Food is great. Service was good. But unbeknownst to us there was an 18% SERVICE FEE!! That is ON TOP of a tip!!! We were so incensed we didn't leave a tip. Now we gave a credit card and it was automatically charged. When we inquired about we were told that 18% is charged on every bill. No notification ahead of time. Strikes me as illegal. Great spot to grab a work lunch. The sushi was very fresh and tightly rolled. Loved the crunch of the seaweed salad. Would definitely come back to try more of their menu. (A lot of steak and shrimp lunch specials were ordered and all were big portions and very flavorful). read more

On the hibachi side: Dinner and a show: Great for special occasions, like a child's birthday dinner with family! On the regular table side: Exquisite food, plated attractively. I love sushi for the low fat/high protein, and how easy it is to control portion size. Lunch specials daily 11:30-2:30, including a bento box for $15. The ambiance is among the most elegant in Buffalo, with hardwood floors or slate floors, lacquered wood on the ceilings, wainscotting, and window frames, and comfortable booths. Great place for a date, or to bring friends to unwind. Full bar, with Sapporo, Samuel Adams, and Big Spade IPA on tap. Free parking in a private lot around the building; well-lit at night. Very friendly service: The wait staff and the manager checked on us to see that all was well. read more

Nothing is better than good hibachi, am I right? Grilled shrimp and chicken, fried rice, yummy veggies. Good hibachi is like a big old fat hug. Which is why if you're craving hibachi, you should stay as far away from this place as humanly possible. The fried rice had nothing in it and was soggy. It could barely be called rice. The shrimp and chicken had clearly been sitting out for quite some time by the time it was delivered to my house. It was expensive, it was cold, it was terrible, and it ruined my whole day. This place is so bad. I got delivery a couple months ago and I'm still get mad thinking about it. I have to drive past there on the way to work and every time I see their sign I send them a silent curse. Avoid this place like the plague or be prepared to get the plague delivered to you, cold and an edible. Don't say I didn't warn you! Zero stars! read more

Went here for my birthday dinner yesterday and woke up sick today! I do not eat red meat and neither does my girlfriend. The steak that a friend ordered was cooked on the same grill with the same utensils as our chicken was cooked and shrimp were cooked. It is a smaller place and service is fast. However, that really ruined the experience for us. read more

Extremely disappointed in this place. Had reservations tonight for my birthday and we waited an hour and a half past our reservation time and still weren't seated. This has always been our favorite restaurant .. until today. service was good, but my food was not. I always order Fillet and Lobster, with noodles. My noodles were so over cooked that they were crunchy. My steak had a bunch of grizzle that I had to put it back on my plate, and my lobster was black and burnt. The only thing that was great was the soup and salad. My veggies were also hard, under cooked? I brought them home to reheat them. our bill was over $111.00. since there was already an18% tip added to my bill, I did not leave anything more because of my food. Normally, I leave atleast a 25% tip. I will go back sometime, and hope this was just a freak occurrence. That was a lot of money spent and not be happy with my meal. I know they can do better. read more

The hibachi chicken was good the rice didn't have much in it. The sushi wasn't the best I've ever had around town and the sake selection lacked. The staff was great though very attentive. The ambiance was very low key and relaxing besides the people who had their children running around. read more

We went to Kyoto Saturday night for excited to experience Hibachi. However when we go there we were told that the wait for Hibachi seating was about 90 minutes. We couldn't keep this from happening because they don't take reservations. A booth, and dinner off the regular menu was immediately available so we opted for that. It was quite noisy and people were waiting for the Hibachi service inside and outside the restaurant. The mixed drinks and food were good nevertheless and the service was attentive and timely. If you don't mind waiting it might have been more fun being entertained at a hibachi table. read more

Kyoto is a standard Japanese restaurant that offers hibachi. I've done sit down as well as hibachi. I've had a couple of their sushi rolls and I think they're alright. I also find their prices relatively high like $7-$8 per roll is a little pricey. I prefer their hibachi more. They're always busy on the weekend. I like the shrimp and scallop combo. The service is pretty standard. Never had an issue. read more

We were immediately taken to a table and got our drink and food orders taken within a few minutes. Each meal comes with soup and salad and shrimp. We had a great time! read more

Went to Kyoto for my 55th birthday this past weekend. The option to make reservations was great as was the fact they let us have separate checks for the 10 of us. I had the Dancong Lobster sushi, which was very good. Everyone else had some variation of hibachi and there was a lot of food! We had a great time. read more

The food was good but the service was very poor. The waitress took our order, brought us our drinks, and then basically ghosted us until after our hibachi meal was over and we were ready to leave. Never brought us our apps, never refilled our waters or asked us if we needed anything, never cleared our plates. She didn't do anything to make it right and still charged us the auto 18 percent gratuity. Didn't feel fair or right. Will be going to get hibachi elsewhere from now on. read more

Server, I think her name might have been Rachel? She did not seem like she wanted to work today. She was mostly attentive. Gyoza 2/10. Worst gyoza I've ever had so far in my lifetime. They came out honestly within 5 minutes after ordering them. Nice that it was so quick but... Dumplings are still squishy. Only pan seared for about 10 seconds each on 2 out of 3 sides. Meat inside was not seasoned very well either. Super bland. Would not order again. Sides: Miso Soup: glad it's mushroom and not tofu. Salad: same as always with the ginger dressing. Good. Hibachi from the kitchen: Veggies: ton of zucchini- I don't like zucchini so that limited my veggies a lot. I think there was maybe 2 mushrooms. Decent amount of broccoli. Rice and noodles: were a bit dry. Rice tastes fine, but the noodles were not my favorite. Probably wouldn't order them again. I wish they had more of the sauce on them that the hibachi vegetables were cooked with, so they had some flavor. read more

BEWARE!!! I went to go pick up take out on Saturday 11/23. I wasn't even given a total, the girl at the register just took my debt card and handed it back along with the receipts. When I went to sign my jaw dropped instead of the $31 for my dinner I saw $77,893.37 and a partial amount went through for $4,868.23 and it did come out of my bank account! The girl didn't even say anything just expected me to sign! When I confronted her, she said oh I made a mistake..... ummm what?!?!? I understand mistakes happen maybe a 5 instead of a 3, whatever but you ran my card for seventy seven thousand, that is not a mistake that is pure ignorance. Then, I asked who owns this place let me speak with an owner or phone number to call. The response I got was, oh they are unreachable they are in China at their vacation home. Then another manager came out and then proceeded to tell me my money would be back in my account in 10 minutes, so I said I would wait.....that was a lie. When she realized I wasn't leaving she said it wouldn't be until Monday. No apologies or sympathy what so ever is what is making me post this review! Lesson learned always use a credit card and not a debt card at places like these read more

Went for my birthday dinner, haven't been to this location in years. Super disappointed. The chef messed almost all of our orders up in front of our faces: friend who ordered shrimp didn't get shrimp, he skipped the entire meal ordered for the child at the table, didn't give another double friend rice (as ordered), gave wrong temp steak to another, and finally missed an entire rice serving for another. When we tried to explain he called the server over and yelled at her in Japanese. Then she brought from the kitchen the two missing fried rices, very dry and a different color than the current rice on our plates that was freshly made. Lastly, the chef did not give us any sauce until he finished the entire meal. This may not seem like a big, but was the most irritating part for me as I wouldn't get to eat my food hot and saucy then like usual. I tried to ask him for sauces twice and both times he ignored the request. No apology or recognition from any of the service members. Will not be visiting there again. read more

The restaurant itself is always clean and the staff are kind, the food and drink are pretty great too. BUT online ordering in specific is always a miss, if you get any cooked red meat in your online order it's always cooked raw or well done, literally no in between. read more

We went for my daughter's birthday. We have been here several times and have never been disappointed. My grandson loved looking at the fish tanks and watching food being prepared on the grill in front of him. The chef cuts of vegetables and flips them into your mouth from behind the grill. My favorite restaurant in all of Buffalo. I've been here multiple times and the workers are always a delight, and the chefs always put on a great show. For any entree you order, it comes with house salad and soup, along with your choice of fried rice or lo mein. So safe to say- If you go in hungry, expect to come out stuffed. I never had a bad experience. Only thing I will say is bathrooms need a huge renovation. But other than that, Highly recommend. read more

Desperate for sushi after walking through Ellicott Creek Park, we found that Kyoto were open for dining in. They respected social distancing (having us wait outside for a table) and all of their servers wore gloves, and protective face masks and/or face shields. And everything was clean (except a couple grains of rice stuck to the table). There selection was impressive and prices were to be expected. So we waited a few minutes for our server and waited. And then we waited quite a bit longer for the food to come out. When the dishes did come out, they were beautifully prepared. Very nice visual presentation. The flavor on the sushi was okay. Not amazing or anything too terribly special. The fish (unagi and crab on mine) tasted great but there was not much in the roll and the other ingredients that filled in more than half of the sushi piece did not contain much flavor. It was somewhat disappointing. After waiting with our sushi finished, our octopus came to the table. This was a much better flavor, and cooked perfectly! Served in a sweet oil, it was delicious! Some of the detriment to the experience was no doubt due to COVID-19 limitations. So I try not to hold that against anything. The food though, averaged out to be acceptable but not exceptional. The selection though was extensive, so I won't rule out that you can find a jewel. read more

The sushi roll I got was really good which is called "the dancing lobster." It was my favorite part of the meal. The salad and miso soup are standard. The habachi meal disappointed me greatly. It pales in comparison to Fuji in Niagara Falls. The shrimp and chicken were rubbery and bland. The fried rice had no fried egg. The veggies were boiled. The veggies and the meat were cold. The prices are higher than anywhere in the area. The waitress was lovely and the atmosphere was fine but I will not come back. read more

I give 5 stars to the hibachi chef. He was awesome!! 4 stars for the food 1.5-2 stars for the server Went here last night with a friend after work. I take issue with the server. This girl screwed my sushi order up royally twice. There was a major language barrier. I get it. So I pointed to her on the menu what I wanted. I ordered 2 pieces of sushi (squid and yellowtail) and 1 spicy salmon roll. Easy right? I said to my friend $10 says it's screwed up. Low and behold, she came out with eel rolls, tuna rolls, sushi pizza. She then had the damn nerve to tell me that's what I ordered and that she read it back to me! That is not even remotely close to what I ordered! I finally asked for a piece of paper to write it down. I asked my friend if I had misspoke too. That was probably all thrown out as well. My suggestion is with a large sushi menu just give the guests a paper to check off what they want, like some other places do. Problem solved. The real kicker? Gratuity was added!! There were 2 of us. Separate checks. I didn't see it noted on the menu that they add it to your check. My friend and I would have left a lot more than what was added on. We thought it was so rude we didn't leave extra. As a restaurant veteran, I know mistakes get made. At the end of the day the sushi was delish. I also know the employees split the tip. I had no intention of leaving a crappy tip. FYI I also got the scallop hibachi. Totally awesome. Just got over food poisoning and went all out eating here. read more
