Everything was seasoned well and full of flavor. My guests are originally from the islands and gave the food their stamp of approval, which made the experience even better! The music was on point, the atmosphere was lively, and the wait staff was friendly and attentive. It's a great spot if you're looking for good Caribbean food, good vibes, and reasonable prices. I also learned that their sister restaurant, Cane, offers a more culturally rooted Caribbean dining experience. I'd love to try both and compare, especially because the flavors at St. James were so good. Definitely recommend and would come back!

The crab fritters and pepper shrimp were both great, and I really enjoyed the black rice. My waiter suggested getting the spice on the side, and I'm glad I listened because it was super spicy! I sat downstairs at a two-person table. I would've preferred a booth, but it didn't seem like they had any. The hostess and waiter were both nice. My only food complaint was that collard greens were the only vegetable option. It would've been nice to have another choice. I loved the playlist as well! My friend got the oxtail and said it was pretty large and good. Overall, I enjoyed my meal. I'd go back if someone invited me, but it wasn't a place I left raving about.

No, this is not jerk chicken at all…read more I really wanted to enjoy Jerks of the Caribbean, but unfortunately, this was one of the most disappointing jerk chicken meals I've ever had. The chicken itself was moist and juicy, but it had virtually no flavor or depth. Jerk chicken should have layers of seasoning and that unmistakable jerk flavor. This tasted bland and, honestly, nothing like the jerk chicken I know and enjoy. I have nothing positive to save about the shrimp tacos on cold tortillas. Sauce tasted like Italian dressing lol The best thing on my plate was the potato salad. Unfortunately, even the mac and cheese had a problem: the noodles were severely overcooked.

The staff there were extremely friendly answering all questions about the menu. The place was well lit and clean. All of the food is on display on a steam table so you're able to see what your food looks like beforehand. I was shocked that a restaurant selling Caribbean food didn't sell plaintains and sweet potatoe was offered as an alternative. Not even the same thing but okay. I ended up ordering oxtail. I wanted rice and peas but he said it came with white rice. I also had cabbage and sweet potatoes as my side. I had less than a quarter cup of rice and it was swimming in gravy. The food was subpar at best, unfortunately. I gave three stars cause the customer service was amazing but I can't co-sign the food.

I ended up parking pretty far from the restaurant I'd intended to go to, when I noticed a "2025 Michelin" sign in the window of this little place. Of course, I had to go in. Pretty sure this was my first time eating at a Michelin-star restaurant! We just don't have those up here (yet). The server brought me a menu (and a beer) and explained how everything worked. And while I was tempted to order one of everything, it was just lunch after all so I settled on their ahhhhmazing Oxtail Bowl. I subbed pelau for the coconut rice and wow...just this layer itself would have made an excellent meal and I would happily eat a bowl of just pelau! But of course I had to dive into the succulent, fall-off-the-bone oxtails, too. They had clearly been cooked in some kind of magical way, and were presented with a rich, sinfully good sauce and topped with house-pickled vegetables. My only regret is there wasn't enough space in my belly to order one of their appies or desserts! I guess this means I'll have to come back. Which is just what I'm planning to do on my trip to DC for another event in a few weeks. Hey, it's a tough job but somebody has to do it!

We stopped by on a Saturday night, and there were no reservations available, but luckily we were able to grab seats at the bar. One thing I really appreciated was how fast the food came out! We had our food in less than 10 minutes, which was impressive, especially for a Saturday night. I ordered the oxtails, which I'd give a 7/10. The flavor was definitely there, but they were a little too fatty for my liking. I also got the Island drink, which I thought was pretty good! My friend ordered the rum punch, and yeah...that tasted nothing like rum punch . Definitely disappointing. I usually get the snapper when I come here, but whew, the price has gotten a little too high for me lol. Overall, still a nice spot with good flavors and super quick service. Just wish the food was a little less pricey and the drinks were more consistent!

The staff are always friendly and make good conversation, and the drinks are always a good strength. Most recently, I tried one of the flavored margaritas and left very pleased! When I come here, I typically get the curry goat, which comes with rice, chickpeas, and potatoes. The most recent time I visited, the potatos were going to take a little longer to cook, so they offered me a choice between cabbage or greens instead. I went with the collard greens, and they were really good! They seemed to be cooked with a lot of butter, which was new for me when it comes to collard greens, but I still loved them overall. Bammy's is located in Navy Yard, so parking isn't always the easiest. But if you're able to snag a spot or you're already walking around the area, I definitely recommend stopping by!

It took almost 20 minutes for the food on a Thursday afternoon. I appreciated the self order kiosk but you'd with all hands on meals it wouldn't take as long. As for the food, it was a big miss unfortunately. The cabbage was mushy. Decent taste though. The peas in the rice were hard and undercooked. The jerk chicken was cooked nice and moist. However, they put a mango sauce on top which maybe its me, but that was not the play. The beef patty was the best part of the meal but was one of the flattesr patties I've ever had. I may try to go back and try something else since its super close but I'm not going to rush to do so.

It's a small but quaint spot with a mix of booth and table seating, making it a nice place for a relaxed dinner with friends. As a picky eater visiting for the first time, I kept my order simple with wings and rice. The wings were the highlight of the meal--crispy, flavorful, and well-seasoned. The rice, however, was disappointing. It was dry and lacked seasoning, and I found myself wishing it had at least a little butter and salt to enhance the flavor. The mocktails were delicious and complemented the meal well. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The music was at the perfect volume--easy to enjoy while still being able to carry on a conversation without shouting, which made for a pleasant evening with friends. Our server was attentive, friendly, and made us feel welcome throughout the meal. One small note: the ladies' restroom was clean but very small and narrow. It had a hook-and-latch style door but no place to hang a purse, which would be a nice addition. Parking on H Street is always a hit or miss, so plan accordingly if you're driving. Ratings: * Food: (3/5) * Atmosphere: (3/5) * Service: (4/5) * Dinner with Friends: (5/5) Overall, Lydia on H is a pleasant neighborhood spot with friendly service, tasty wings, and excellent mocktails. While the rice missed the mark for me, I enjoyed the company, the conversation, and the relaxed atmosphere. I would consider returning to try other menu items.
