Ice Cream for the Adventurous One of the more spectacular ice cream shops is on Hillcroft. Kwality ice cream. Exotic tropical fruits and flavors from the Indo-Pak region in addition to the standards. Butter pecan Thandai Sitafal Chickoo Blueberry cheesecake Figs Tiramisu Moti Choor Laddu Rajbhog Mango Mawa kulfi And more!!! Service. Ambiance.
For just about every major ethnic enclave in the US, there is an ethnic chain not far behind. Similarly to how there is a BAMBU in most Vietnamese communities or a Red Ribbon for Filipinos, the desi equivalent is most definitely Kwality Ice Cream. Buried within a strip mall in Hillcroft's Little India (#1) Kwality is an HTown necessity given the many warm months around the year and a solid dessert option for the area. The interior is small, so seating is nearly non-existent. It is takeout friendly and definitely a magnet for sweet tooths looking for a post dinner treat. Despite being an ice cream shop, I felt like the ventilation wasn't up to par as it felt very room temp at best with a tinge of stale air. (#2) The flavors are true to their South Asian roots with notable ones that include the uber popular kulfi falooda, malai kulfi, rajbhog, jogpaan masala, and my recent go-to, saffron pistachio. The sleeper is the thandai, which is basically the most Indian ice cream ever with almonds, fennel seeds, watermelon kernels, rose petals, pepper, poppy seeds, cardamom, saffron, milk and sugar. For those looking for more basic options, they have vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, cookies and cream, etc. Customer service varies here from friendly youngins offering all the samples with a smile, to grumps that make me feel like I need to pay and move on. It is credit card friendly and the parking is in a shared lot. ___________ (#1) Or more aptly known as the "Mahatma Gandhi District." (#2) Essentially any place in Hillcroft.
Soooo I didn't get a picture of my ice cream because it's not a great explanation. Let's just say when I walked in the line was four groups deep. And there were only two workers on a Sunday afternoon. So I waited about 25 minutes just to order a quick Malai Falood Shake. There was no one mandating the line so people were just cutting. To be honest not the greatest experience in the heart of hilcroft. I rather go to the one in Richmond. Do not even try to use the restroom. It was hot and not clean. Parking was chaotic as well.
Another nostalgic experience. My stepmother made these at home all the time. Falooda is typically made like a milkshake but has noodles, jello, nuts and topped with ice cream. I love the original. There are many flavors of ice cream to try and they do let you taste test.
Never disappointing. I enjoy their variety of flavors. Not just your run of the mill regular stuff, which they have some of, but their exotic flavors is where it's at. Feel like Ferrero Rocher? They got it. You want Mango Kulfi? Why not? Pan? You do you!
Lots of Indian flavor options from thandai to kulfi and falooda. The guy let us sample different flavors to decide what we wanted. I ended up going for the Chikoo flavor and it was the perfect dessert in this Houston heat. The serving size is also just right for each of the options. The small is pictured below. There was no line and we were able to go in/out pretty quickly. Parking is super open so no worries there either.
We were craving something cool in this summer heat. We saw the place driving by and made a U-turn. A nice lady let me try lots of ice cream flavors. I finally chose the fig and walnuts. It's creamy and delicious. It's dense. I only ate half of my single scoop and stored the second half in my freezer. My friend had gulab jamun and she liked it. There's other things I'd like to try like the popsicles and the sitafal which I think it's like the guanabana or soursop. There's ice cream pints and cakes to take away. The floor was a bit dirty.
Have been in Houston for the past few weeks and I have been here 3x already. I love the mango falooda. It has been made differently each visit, depending on which employee prepares the item. But it was still enjoyable. There are so many different ice cream flavors to try, I need to be more adventurous next time. I do have to drop one star, like other reviewers have said, there is an odd smell when you walk in and the seating is awkward and practically useless.
Tried Kwality Ice cream recently with my family and was overall happy with their ice cream flavors! They let you try flavors before you select one which was great because they had sooooo many options. Lots of classic indian dessert flavors. Everything I tried was good! Loved the gulab jamun, falooda, and mango flavors! Ultimately went with the chikoo because I loveee the gritty texture of the chikoo seeds. If you've ever had a chikoo shake before, this ice cream flavor was spot on! The negatives of this place was a distinct off putting smell when you walk in. It's kind of an unsanitary smell. Also the floors were dirty and sticky. Didn't have a clean vibe. Bad ambiance and no where to sit inside or outside. Overall, I loved the variety of indian ice cream flavors here, but I probably won't frequent this location often because of cleanliness concerns.
Delicious option on Hilcroft, Kwality Ice Cream serves as an awesome after dinner dessert spot. They offer flavors galore from the more popular ones, to more unique flavors geared towards the tastes of the area. The selection is absolutely insane. There's also other offerings including some tasty looking falooda (Indian noodle drink with ice cream) and there's plenty of prepackaged pints to go. I ordered the honey fig flavor on my last visit, and it was perfect! The pricing here is great as well for the quality. The one big negative about this place is the lack of seating. There's a small counter to lean on, and there was literally one stool available for seating at my last visit.
Thanks to my Yelper friends Nadir for recommending Falooda and Sara I for South Asian flavored ice cream at Kwality Ice Cream. I'm always into food adventures. Falooda is kind of like an ice cream float. The combination of yummy candies in a tall cup mixed with nuts, noodles, sweet milk with a scoop of fragrant ice cream. Inside of restaurant is very simple. You order with an employee and pay at the counter. There is no place to sit, however, only seating area is the bar stools (only 2) by the window. I assume this place gets packed with no room to stand. Since my visits were daytime during Ramadan, I rarely saw anyone. Trying each flavor can be challenging, especially they have signs indicating no samplings. I have to respect the policy by not asking. But the employee gave me samples anyway. Oh how nice. She said just 2 per person. It's a good policy because some ice creams are strong than others. After trying 2, like Pan Masala and Mawa flavors, rose petal flavor became bland. The ingredients in the flavor card don't say how it taste, especially the savory ones. Thanks to Sara's explanations. They do have just fruity flavors without spices or exotic fruits. Kwality is unique as all ice cream shops, plus more. They captured Indian spices and fruits into popular American dessert. It's a must try restaurant when you visit Gandhi District at Southwest Houston. Oh, few more things. All ice creams are made with milk but eggless. So, it's not vegan. But it's definitely vegetarian. Juices may contain savory spices and definitely lactose free. There's no sugar free menu items.
I tried the King Mango ice cream here and it tasted like the real fruit rather than an artificial flavor. Even though I only ordered a single scoop, the employee gave me the largest scoop possible. It was a lot of ice cream for me personally but it's a great bang for your buck!
My favorite is Casatta. But they have kulfis, a variety of cups and cones including pan, chiku, ferrao rocher, guava, milkshakes ... the best part, they are open till midnight. Due to covid they have removed the seating and its mandatory to wear mask inside the store at all times, so we took the ice cream and sat in the car to finish it. Could not even wait to take pics... Cold weather outside and ice cream in hand... that's a tingle of excitement...!!

Tried out an ice cream spot called Kwality ice cream in Houston. I got an ice cream cup with the Alphonso mango and the kesar pista kulfi (saffron and pistachio). Mango flavor was bold but I actually liked the kesar pista kulfi more. It's somewhat nutty with some bits in it for some more texture. My cousin got the malai falooda and it's basically like the Vietnamese desserts where there's a ton of toppings inside. I liked this as well. I have never heard of this place before, we just tried it because it was next to the restaurant we had dinner at. I liked it and would come again read more
I came here with some friends. They have a lot of cool flavors, but only one vegan option that isn't ice cream which was pretty disappointing. I opt to get the sno-cone instead, but it still didn't satisfy my craving for ice cream. The sno-cone was very mid, not as good as Daya's Sno-cones in Luling (they are the best!). Although, the cup was saturated with syrup I could still mostly taste ice. A strange conundrum that I wasn't too keen about. I won't be returning. It is good for those who aren't lactose-intolerant. read more

There are a lot of unique flavors here, however, they were not too distinguishable by taste when I sampled them. I got Sitaphal and coffee. The portions are very big. The ice cream was a bit too sweet. In my opinion I likely will not return. However, it's worth giving Kwality a shot if you're in the area. read more

If you love ice cream, Kwality is a must try! I first had Kwality ice cream in India with my boyfriend, so we were wondering how this spot would compare. The ice cream at this location exceeded our expectations - it was delicious! We shared the mango kulfi and malai kulfi. The consistency was very rich & creamy. They were both amazing, but if I had to choose my favorite one it would be the malai kulfi. Kwality has a ton of flavors! The woman working here was very helpful in answering any questions. We can't wait to come try more. read more

This ice cream parlor is pretty solid. They didn't have enough reviews when we visited this place which is depriving them of their awesomeness. This place had unique Indian-inspired flavor such as rose petal, kulfi falooda, thandai, mango kulfi, pista badam etc. As much as vanilla and strawberry are traditional flavors available anywhere, its these unique flavors that caught our attention. And not only are the flavors unique, but they taste really really good. We got a combo of kulfi falooda and fig walnut while the other cone was pistachio nut and mango kulfi. The flavors were rich, creamy, and tasted exactly like their ingredients. My favorite flavor was the kulfi falooda and mango kulfi. Absolutely delish and the flavors I would recommend. The servers were very polite and let us sample all of their flavors which we asked to sample before making our purchase. I feel like I want to try every single ice cream here in the upcoming days. This is a hidden gem in Houston, and if you happen to be in the hillcroft area, check them out. read more
Looking for desserts in the area, we found this place and walked over to get some ice cream. The inside was a bit small. The interiors were decked out in red and orange on the wall and floors. Quite colorful. The staff behind the counter was patient with us as we tried majority of the ice cream flavors. This was my first time seeing these flavors. Oh boy, there were too many flavors and it was hard narrowing down the four we wanted. We opted for two scoops each on two waffle cones. Good portion and very shareable. As for the flavors, the winners were kulfi falooda, fig walnuts, mango kulfi, and pistachio nuts. The flavors were Indian inspired, a bit obvious since it's located in the heart of Hillcroft. This was my first time trying ice cream in the area and I gotta say I'm a fan. This place deserves more visit, they take ice cream flavors to another level. read more

Kwality is the appropriate name, as this is very good quality ice cream! The flavor selections are vast and unique(given the area, the Ghandi district), there are many flavors with Indian flavors or spices, but there a fruit and familiar (chocolate, cookies and cream) ones as well. Best part is the pricing! One scoop is only $3.79 and two scoops is 5.79, and they are good-size scoops. I've passed this strip often on my way to Harwin to shop. I will definitely return! read more

Clean and tidy store, hard working employees, and delicious ice cream. Had a sugar free tooty frooty and it tastes exactly like a juicy fruit! Super duper cheap for ice cream where most places charge $7. My order was only $4! Highly recommend trying something new because they wont disappoint. read more
Think India meets ice cream. Think curry meets dairy. Think: "Kwality Ice Cream" Seated in the heart of hillcroft is this ice cream parlor serving up a south asian twist on ice cream. Falooda, Kulfi,Mango. Authentic indian flavors for dessert. I personally got the mango flavor and thoroughly enjoyed it. Nevermind the overly sweet take on mango many ice cream/froyo shops take. This mango has an identity to it giving it character... heck some might even say a south asian identity. I highly recommend it. Also the prices weren't terrible! Ice cream is still an overly expensive luxury that society has abused with exorbitant prices but this place is much less harsh. I didn't mind the prices. $7 for two ice cream scoops/cones. This price coupled with fact that you get a authentic dessert, is worth the trip. I would go back P.S The second you walk in, its "Little India" Enough said read more

This is such a great little place I think everyone should know about. The falooda and Kulfi are delicious. I believe it's an Indian dessert place . But as far as favorites and recommendations , the malai kulfi falooda is amazing . It's got rice noodles in it, nuts , dried fruits . Milk and some sour syrup on top and you kind of drink it like you would bubble tea . It's such an interesting mix of textures and flavors I think everyone in the family would enjoy it . I definitely recommend trying it at least once . I've had the mango masti , malai kulfi, and dry fruits falooda . They've all been great in their own right . And I plan on trying the whole menu of them . read more
My sister and I wanted something sweet and cold, but we couldn't decide what we wanted to have. I had suggested Nu Cafe and share some shaved ice, but she wasn't feeling it. She suggested some tapioca tea, but I was having none of it. Never mind, I remembered that I had bookmarked this place and it was as good a time as ever to check this place out. So I told her that we'd go to an Indian ice cream joint, to which she gave me a flabbergasted look. And yes, this was totally the perfect opportunity to actually use the word "flabbergasted". When we arrived, I could see that the place was kind of empty. But as we were walking toward the store, I could hear commotion behind me. I looked back and saw plenty of people walking toward the joint as well. "Aw shit" I thought to myself; "Gotta hurry in and order before it gets too crowded in there!!" When we walked in, I saw that there were plenty of flavors that are not your typical ice cream flavors. They were Indian fusion, obviously. I didn't even know where to begin. No worries, though. The nice young lady who was helping me was super friendly and super patient. I wanted to sample a bunch load of flavors but I didn't want to be one of those guys. But still, no worries, she just smiled and told me that I could sample as many flavors as I would like to. Sweetness!! However, since I just wanted something that's more typical, I decided to get fruit flavored ice cream: Lychee and Orange Pineapple. My sister decided to get the Cookies n Cream and Ferrero Rocher. The doubles cost $4.99 each so the total for two doubles cost us a little under $11 with sales tax included. The flavors were good. The portion, however, I didn't think was generous enough. Yes, I got two scoops, but since I'm a frequent visitor to Marble Slab where your cup gets pretty much filled up with ice cream, the double scoops I received at Kwality Ice Cream felt a little... hollow. Anyway, I enjoyed my ice cream and so did my sister. I'm definitely going to go back to try more of the non-traditional ice cream flavors that they have to offer. If you're looking for a different kind of ice cream, go ahead and pay this place a visit. read more

My boyfriend and I live going to Kwality for their kulfi and ice cream whenever we're in the Hillcroft area. He usually gets the kesar pista (saffron and pistachio). I like the kesar kulfi too but last time I decided to try the ice cream as well and got the rose flavor. I love all things rose, and theirs has a strong rose flavor without being overpowering. It has just the right amount of saffron in it and the subtle flavors are delicious. The kulfi is creamy and doesn't melt too quickly. They have plenty of flavors to try out- both traditional and non-traditional. They are always happy to explain any of the flavors to me and give good recommendations. One of these days we'll try their falooda too! read more
