A rock hit my windshield, which I didn't see until the following day right before I left for the airport. Unfortunately that crack probably grew over the week I was gone, and it was large enough that I needed a windshield replacement. I started through GEICO, and was quoted $669 through Safelite. However, online research told me that safelite uses an aftermarket glass that isn't as good as OEM. Because of that I decided to search on yelp and I found KV Auto Glass. I reached out on a Sunday (when they are closed) asking about OEM glass and heard back Monday morning. Because I was using insurance, they requested me to go through GEICO to send the work order. The claim work is still processed by satelite but once it was approved, it was smooth sailing. I did get a bit nervous because it seemed like the crack kept growing, but whoever is in charge of KV auto glass yelp page responded and provided reassurance to me that my windshield wouldn't shatter even if the glass grew. Once the claim was approved, I made an appointment for Thursday and showed up at their location. Process took about 45 min to an hour and they even tucked in the wiring for my dashcam (which I sloppily did myself when I first put that in)! Really appreciate it! The skinny: Ken is a good, informative guy Prices are competitive The lengthy: My Toyota Camry Hybrid (2017?) got a windshield ding near the bottom. I tried to fix it, but that made it worse. I called two places. One quoted $1200 for replacement and sensor recalibration. When I talked with the secretary at KV, the quote was $250 less, so I made the appointment. Day-of, I drove to KV's address. Ken met me and was very friendly, even offering me a seat in his small office space. I elected to stay outside, to enjoy the fresh air and periodically check on the work. He explained to me that cracked windshields do not always need to be replaced, windshield repairing is purely cosmetic (i.e., pretty much a scam), and encouraged me to look more into my car insurance. He was not pushy or off putting and did not try to sell me anything. His easygoing information transfer is what earned him 5 stars. The circumstances in which I was forced to have my passenger's side window replaced is unfortunate. Woke up the other day to find my Honda had been burglarized the night before. Very professional, great communication, very friendly, and responsive. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Ken came over and did a mobile replacement job on a truck that I have. It usually just sits and I only drive it for big tasks but I've been needing it more lately. With all this rain we've been getting I started to notice water inside the cabin. After some diagnosing, I determined it was the windshield leaking. Ken came out to do the replacement and was extremely friendly and answered all my questions and concerns. My BMW x3 passenger back seat window was broken and they steal stuff from my car. I call the dealer monday and they scheduled me for Friday. I then call the parts department to check and the part is not in stock and need to be ordered. Only service advisor can order it. I cannot get any of them answer their phone and no one returned my message that I left. So Tuesday morning I find 2 places that do side window work and kv auto is very close to my home. I call them and they put me on hold for 30 seconds to order the part. Then scheduled Wednesday noon to do the work. Well , one day I was driving to work and it just starting cracking before my eyes, clear across the whole windshield! In a hurry, I went to yelp and searched for windshield replacement places. Yelp has this nifty thing where you can get a bunch of quotes. So I went through a requested quotes from a bunch of places. This one was one of the lowest, so I scheduled it for next day and had them meet me at my work. When they got there, I met them in the parking lot. I had so many Body Repair shops that didn't want to take the job because of AAA and how they have issues with the labor rate in which Safelite sets forth; BMW of San Francisco wanted $3500. Autonation Stevens Creek (Juan) didn't seem thrilled when AAA (Safelite) requesting for lower labor rate after the initial quote was sent to them, I was on the phone with the AAA rep and she was saying that they can re-negotiate the rate again while I was in his office and he said he would email me never did. Another body shop in Burlingame wanted to know how he was going to get paid upfront, I told him to call the insurance company, seemed like he didn't know what he was doing or just didn't want my business because of AAA insurance. It's one of those things where some of these body shops are doing so well or lack of administrative know how dealing with insurance companies that they don't care if they lose business, oh well.
