One of the worst experiences Ive had trying a new restaurant. Lets start off with arrival. Walked in was not greeted just was asked for 2? Then was told to sit anywhere. Ok fine, went and found a seat and was brung water which was not cold and without ice. No ice?? Wth. That was the first strike. Moving along decided to get a canned pepsi no cup no ice also no straw. Cmon now!!! Second strike. Lets continue. So the waiter which was the same guy that sat us. Came over with a pad and just stared at us. Before I continue I must say he gave a cold feeling like he didn't want to serve us. Which made me feel uncomfortable but I digress. He took our orders and when I went to give my order I said what I wanted and he shook his head at me afterwards. Now heres the thing your cold not welcoming and customer service is down right terrible!!! Thats one thing you need when you have a business, but who am I? Let's move on to food. Smh ok so you have the audacity to charge the prices you do for those small portions! I got the goat and it was two pieces in it and a chunk of fat! For 17 bucks? third strike. My expectations were high but were let down unfortunately. The inside seemed ok semi clean a few cosmetic issues but it is what it was. I hope the service and portion size gets better over time I rarely leave ratings like this but my visit here was awful. Be better. read more

I stopped by on a Sunday evening for dinner. The place was not crowded. Everything I ad was really good and tasted authentic. Ghee masala dosa was my favorite. It came with 3 chutney and a sambar. Poori with potato masala was excellelent as well. Medhu vada was another excellent item I tried. It was crispy and came with a sambar and a chutney. Filter coffee was good and is served sugarless. I also went for a chicken kothu porotta with 2 eggs. That was a good item as well. read more

I was looking for a place that was not my normal food choice and saw Kutty Leaf was very close to where I was taking some professional training. Walking in I could smell the spices, I was hooked. Walking in I was greeted right away. So friendly. The waitstaff service..outstanding! The food beautiful and sooo good! Next time I'm in the area I will be coming back! read more

We r good we stumbled upon this place when someone mentioned them in Madison foodie. The place was clean, service was fast and friendly. We tried their filter coffee which was served in the traditional way and had the same back home taste. Our mysore masala dosa wasn't too spicy but we felt it was one of the best we have had in Madison. We also ordered puri aloo. The puri was really good- not at all greasy. The aloo was South Indian style. I am used to the North Indian spicy oily kind and this was a little too healthy to my liking. All in all- it's a wonderful place and we will surely be back to try more of their menu item. A must try for any South Indian food lover. read more

This was an accidental find on our way to Minneapolis. Having a vegetarian, we figured Madison was probably the last best place before heading into Minneapolis to have dinner at a decent hour. Firstly, their service was just absolutely AMAZING! Such warm hearted folks taking care of each and every aspect. No, this is not a 5 star out of the world type of place where you have to place your napkins a certain way. It's super casual which brings in the warmth of just having a good dinner. The onion bhaji was SPECTACULAR. It was super crispy, made fresh and had a South Indian flare to it by the addition of the curry leaves. It just worked beautifully. The rava masala dosa was not bad. The dosa itself was nice and crispy. The masala was not bad by any means but it did not have that little ummph to it. The chutneys that came with it were alright. The egg fried rice was divine. Simple and filling. Lastly, the paneer chilli. That had a kick to it (surprising but I do love spicy stuff) and the paneer was fresh. When the staff found out this was more of a pit stop for a quick bite before we head into Minneapolis, they were just so kind and offered us extra water and wanted to make sure we had everything we could need for the 4 hour drive. It had the 'dildari' that we know of in India. Really felt like home. Not sure when we will get to visit again but on our next trip to Minneapolis, definitely stopping here again. read more

Service is great. Attentive and quick on things. Ambiance is quiet/nice. I ordered pesarattu dosa, the special. Pesarattu is a different form of lentil in the batter. It was a touch more savory and earthy. The tomato and cilantro chutneys were excellent. Coconut was a touch thin for my tastes. Sambar was typical but good. One thing of note...the chutneys seemed "rustic" (ie fresh/likely made in house). I arguably haven't tried enough things yet to have a broad judgment but overall a solid South Indian place to have on the East Side. read more

Delicious southern Indian food. Food came out fast and hot. The samosas were perfect. First time trying a dosa and it was good and served with 4 different chutneys. The chickpea masala was really good and had some punch to it with the spice level. The dining room was nice. It's not romantic but that's ok as the food and service speaks for itself. The only thing they can improve on is they serve water in plastic bottles. I would prefer water in glass to save our resources read more

This place is truly a hidden gem for authentic and thoughtfully prepared South Indian cuisine. I haven't had mysore masala dosa this good since living in San Francisco! And being from L.A., I appreciate finding a family-run place that knows how to build flavors and spice profiles with care. Beautifully complex layers and nuances within both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. We especially enjoyed the chicken tikka masala which was rich and delicious. A wonderful surprise to find them at the end of a long Sunday and so thankful they were open until 9:30pm. The host mentioned they just opened in March - we will definitely be back! read more

This is the best Indian food I have ever tasted and, being from a diverse coastal state, I've had the opportunity to enjoy plenty of authentic Indian food. I wasn't overly hungry when we visited this place last night, but I couldn't stop eating until I was absolutely stuffed because everything was delicious. We shared the mango curry, butter chicken, tikka masala and a plain dosa, which came with 4 sauces. When the first thing you say after your very first bite is "this is DELICIOUS!" you know you've found something special. And when you say that about EVERYTHING you taste... well... you know you need to let the world know about it so others can join in the bliss. And the service was impeccable. Great good. The great: The food stands out if you're a fan of southern Indian cooking. Among our dinner group and another lunch visit we tried the mysoor masala dosa, the rava dosa, samosa chaat, the mango-ginger curry (chicken and paneer versions), the salted lassi, chai, medu vada, and idli. All the food tasted fantastic, with a real layered depth of flavor. I would highly recommend getting something that comes with the homemade chutneys as they are so much better than any other Indian restaurant I've tried in WI; the onion chutney in particular (this is not the sad diced onion tossed with a little seasoning and red coloring you'll get in most Indian restaurants in the region). Drinks were really good (my salt fiend dining partner likes it a little more salty, but I prefer the subtle salted lassi that was served), we passed on the mango lassi as it looked like those were made in bulk in advance). First time having paneer that was squeeky like a curd, though the owner/ assistant chef said they don't make it in house as the squeek led me to believe. The less than great: The menu could use a revision as some items had basically the exact description or had rather vague descriptions. The ambiance isn't romantic date night level, but if you're dining out for the food the flavors here more than compensate for the setting. Finally, the server seemed distracted and a bit disorganized both times I stopped in, had to be reminded of items ordered. Overall, these issues combined can't eclipse how good the food is. Will definitely stop in again when near the far east side and plans are already made to try their weekend vegetarian thali. read more

My husband and I had an excellent experience at kutty leaf. I got the dosa with ghee with potatoes and a hot chai tea. My husband got the samosa appetizer, a mango lassi, the butter chicken (amazing) and the gulub jaman. The service was personal and respectful and added to the experience. The restaurant was clean and the dishes that food was served on were unique nicely plated. We're looking forward to going back and bringing friends! read more
