Beef noodle soup

We decided to venture out somewhere outside our usual comfort zone mid week for dinner and came across Kusan Bazaar. Everything we had was flavorful and you can taste the freshness of each ingredient. Garlic naan was hot, fresh, and fluffy. Beef noodle soup was different that the usual Chinese or Japanese noodles we were used to, but very comforting. Sansa's were flaky on the outside and packed full of juicy lamb. The huge and juicy 6hour lamb shank with Pilar was the star and enough for 2 full meals! Will definitely be bringing family and friends next time.

I thought this place was awesome! First time trying it out and the food was really good. Went with a group of 6 and we tried to get different items family style. Liked the fish the most, and service was quick and polite. Would definitely come back, only reason it's not a 5 for me is because it was hard to split things family style.

Great food, highly recommend the fish and the lamb samsa as well as everything else. Everything we tried here was excellent and we didn't have anything that we didn't like. We've also been to the San Jose location and we feel like the food is just as good if not better here.

Great service tonight at Kusan! We were informed the lamb noodle soup was on sale for $10 and ordered that along with beef pilaf, Uyghur salad, and chicken kebab. All were delicious!

It's a 3.5 stars for me, some dishes are a hit some dishes are a miss. We went on a weeknight and got seated immediately. We ordered: - Lamb kebab: 3/5 the meat was rough but the seasoning was good - Samsa: 5/5 flavorful and delicious! - Golden toasted lamb: 4/5 the first few bites were delicious but it's generally too fatty the more I bite into it - Garlic naan: 2/5 unfortunately it felt like store bought and wasn't that good

the grilled lamb ribs were really good. Crispy on the outside, tender inside, and the chili oil was so good with it. The lamb pilaf was also super flavorful

I am not usually a fan of lamb but everything we ordered was delicious. The golden lamb ribs were so tender and the side sauces and spices worked really well with it. The lamb shank was moist and fell right off of the bone. The pilaf rice had a hint of sweetness to it, reminded me of the taste of those chinese herbal soups with gogi berries. The lamb dumpling soup was my favorite dish of the night. The soup oddly tasted like pico degallo because of the onions, tomatoes, and cilantro, but it WORKED. The lamb broth was hearty but clean tasting at the same time and the dumplings were tasty. The cold eggplant dish was a little too spicy for me but was good over the rice. I didn't see their fish dish on their to-go menu so we'll have to go in-person to try that!

Service was really good. I like their mango yogurt drink and the Silk Road roasted fish. The golden crispy roasted lamb was also delicious.

Service was really good. I enjoyed the mango yogurt, Silk Road roasted fish and golden crispy lam rib!

My dad suggested going to Kusan for dinner. I remember watching Kusan being featured on Check Please, Bay Area! The cuisine looked appetizing, but I remember it was far away in San Jose so we never tried it. Luckily, there's now a San Mateo location! The restaurant is situated in a quiet strip mall in San Mateo not near downtown, so parking is easy. The space is not large, but sleek and modern looking inside. I was able to make an online reservation no problem through DoorDash. We were seated promptly as our table had reserved sign on it. Initially, the restaurant only had a few tables occupied when we walked in, but was completely full when we left. There was only one server for the entire restaurant, but he was very kind and did a good job in my opinion. We ordered eggplant with mashed garlic, garlic spicy and tangy cucumber salad, Wellington-style roasted lamb, Uyghur chicken wraps, beef with celery dumplings, lamb broth with handcraft mini won tons, and the lamb noodle soup. The eggplant lacked seasoning, but it was a large portion for the price. I dipped the eggplant in the leftover cucumber dressing, which was excellent! The Wellington-style roast lamb had an interesting concept, but it was mediocre in my opinion. The dumplings and noodle dishes were very fresh and tasty. My husband enjoyed his chicken wraps and my kids really liked the mango flavor yogurt beverage. It wasn't too sweet! We are new to Uyghur cuisine, but we will be back! I want to try the lamb ribs and fish next time!

We have been to the restaurants in Milpitas and San Jose. Just arrived here on a Monday at 11 :40am and told dumplings etc ran out. Therefore don't know which day the cycle started. So we just ordered others and found out whatever they have are all good.

Solid Uyghur cuisine in San Mateo hidden in a shopping center beside Fitness 19. Had the crispy lamb ribs and the flavors were excellent. It was a bit of work eating it off the bones. Would probably opt for a rice or noodle dish next time to balance out the heavy fat in the the lamb. It could have been a little more crispy. She had the whole catfish with garlic. We were disappointed they didn't torch it in front of us especially for the $30 price point. The Samsa was probably the best thing we had. Garlic naan was fine but nothing special. Service was prompt and friendly and it had easy parking. This is the 4th location of this restaurant and the only one not in the South Bay. It would be good if they offered some vegetarian entrees. If you don't eat meat your options are very limited. Really nice ambiance inside. Family friendly but we had a large group beside us that were all chewing with their mouth open which was kind of gross.

Best yogurt ever!

The Highlights: Abalone in Shell with vermicelli (5/5): Fresh, tender, and perfectly prepared. Scallops in Shell with Vermicelli (5/5): Fantastic flavor and texture Beef Tongue Curry: Rich, comforting, and a huge hit with the kids. The tongue was cooked just right. Skewers & Sides: Abalone Skewers (4/5): slightl larger pieces than the ones served in the shell, tasty and well-charred. Shrimp Skewers (4/5): Well-seasoned and cooked properly without drying out. Corn Skewers (3/5): A bit of a letdown. Heavily over-seasoned to the point where the natural sweetness of the corn was completely lost. Definitely worth a visit for the seafood and curry--we'll be back, but will likely skip the corn next time.

I liked the food, but it took several incremental orders to feel full. Food: 4 Service: 3 Value: 3 Atmosphere: 2 Food: I had the Gyu Don rice bowl as well as several of the yakitori skewers: Gyu Hire (ribeye skewer), Kurobuta Sausage, Negima (chicken with green onion), and Kamo (duck breast). The rice bowl had good flavor and was reasonably filling, while most of the yakitori items were excellent when fresh. Service: Service was overall very fast, though not very engaging. You primarily order via a QR code on the table then the food comes out quickly. It reminds me a bit of an airport. Value: The rice bowl was filling, but I was a little disappointed with the skewers. Each skewer had 3-4 small pieces on it. And while tasty, they weren't very large. The sausage and chicken were $3-4 each, but the ribeye was close to $6 for a couple small pieces. Atmosphere: The restaurant has several small tables and was pretty empty when I got there. Things were fast, but it wasn't much of a place to hang out. Again, it had a bit of airport vibes.

It was a flavorful adventure for our taste buds. The lamb shank was tender and fell off the bone easily. The chicken tikka masala and tandoor prawns were both very flavorful. We were less impressed with the bara with eggs, but the garlic naan was a hit. We ended up ordering a second serving. This was our first time trying paneer. To us, it tasted similar to tofu, with a softer, chewy texture. It was fun to try something new. We would definitely return the next time we're craving Nepalese/Himalayan food.

Service was excellent, checked in frequently, and gave recommendations for our meal. We had gotten the aduwa sake, strawberry sake, crab cakes, gobi manchurian, malal broccoli, lamb vindaloo, and garlic naan. Everything was solid. I'd say we both liked the lamb vindaloo the most. The meat just melted, sauce was great. The crab cakes were my partner's second. It had a nice light crunch to it, and didn't feel heavy at all. I liked the gobi manchurian 2nd but I'm a sucker for cauliflower. It was a bit too spicy for my partner though. The garlic naan were also piping hot which was great. They were still closing up shop and eating together at the end. The vibe is great here, and it is nice to discover another option when we're in town. Hopefully, we'll have more time to take things in next time.

The ambiance is a bit similar to a fast casual restaurant than that of a high end course meal and the service aligns with that. Bathrooms are in a bit of a sorry state and chairs are peeling at the edges. Service is a bit clumsy and rushed. No one asks for any food restrictions before the meal and it isn't asked when reservations are being made, so you'll have to actively speak up if you need this addressed. Dishes are only fully explained at the bar, if you sit at the standard tables you'll get a very basic dish explanation. The food is mostly Chinese Japanese fusion and some dishes knock it out of the park, like the chawanmushi which is fused with flavors of Chinese egg drop soup. Some really drop the ball, like the scallion noodles which were soggy and overly greasy, the oil was not properly infused with the green onion and so you just got mushy soggy plain oil flavored noodles. The course lacked consistency. Some dishes were incredible, some average, and some downright bad. There's a lack of consistency in the prep also, there were crab shells in the orange crab dish, there was a bad bitter uni in one of the chawanmushi, etc. I think the ambiance, service, and course doesn't add up to the $150 price tag. There's definitely potential but the lack of effort does affect the overall experience.
