It was our…read morefirst visit, and since it was on the way, we figured we'd give it a try -- and we're so glad we did! Everything was a 10/10 experience from start to finish. We arrived around 5 p.m. and were one of just a few parties seated, so it was quiet and relaxed. The first thing we noticed was how beautifully decorated it was inside. Like others have mentioned, the exterior might not catch your eye right away, but once you step in, it's vibrant and welcoming. Our server was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. We ordered the sashimi nigiri plate, agedashi tofu, and an eel roll (I can't remember the exact name). Every dish was excellent -- the fish was incredibly fresh, and the agedashi sauce was bursting with flavor. Honestly, it's the best agedashi tofu we've had so far! We were too hungry to snap photos this time, but I'll definitely add some on our next visit. Highly recommend checking out Akira Sushi if you're in the area -- great food, warm service, and such a pleasant surprise overall.

We were craving some Japanese food and found this place with decent reviews. We came on a Saturday…read morearound lunch and it wasn't busy. The exterior is very unsuspecting. I would have never thought a Japanese restaurant was here. The inside was another story! The inside is decorated with all kinds of Japanese pictures and decor. You definitely felt like you were in a Japanese restaurant. The menu was impressive! Everything had pictures which is so amazing! It was just easier having an idea of what to pick based on looking at the pictures. There were all kinds of sushi rolls, bento boxes, noodles, appetizers and plates. We decided to get the ramen, salmon katsu, and tempura bowl. Food came our really quick. Portions were good and everything we tasted wonderful. It definitely satisfied our craving. The tempura was crispy. The ramen broth was rich and noodles nice and chewy. The bento box came with gyoza, salad, tempura, oranges, miso soup and rice. Service was great. They were attentive, and friendly. Eating with our littles ones is never easy and we appreciated how patient they were with us. We loved the food and hope to come back and try their sushi next!

Less than two years after I fell in love with this sushi restaurant, I'm farthest from in love and…read moredon't expect to return. Check out the menu pricing. $48.99+ tax for 8 pc sashimi, 4 pieces nigiri and a "special" roll. Exorbitant. And they claim under new management but the same man is behind the fish counter. And I understood he had bought it around a year ago. Unbelievable.

Reasonably priced veggie sushi options can be found here. They're basic, but for the price I would…read moresay it's worth stopping in for. Sushi Star is in a little strip mall behind a Walgreens and located a few doors down from Corner Pocket, which is likely why they stay open to 10pm on weekends. A section of the menu is labeled "Vegetarian Rolls" but most of them are actually vegan. There's also a few veggie appetizer standards: edamame, seaweed salad, sunomono. They also have inari. The seaweed salad was an actual salad... it came served on a bed of spring greens. I liked it. We also tried the AAC (avocado, asparagus, cucumber) and Veggie Rolls. Both were good, but the Veggie Roll was modified to what was actually listed on the menu. It was still tasty though. I liked how the veggie rolls come sauceless by default so I don't have to ask for them to be removed to keep it vegan. Basic = easy. Service was average here, so all in all I would come back when I'm looking for another quick bite of vegan sushi and don't feel like making it myself.

The fish to rice ratio is glorious; they do not skimp out on the cuts of fish at all. My favorites of the nigiri are the yuzu yellowtail and the salmon. These two are easily the best out of them all (and the seared salmon belly, but this is only one order per person). In my opinion, the rolls themselves aren't too noteworthy. But I do check out any specials they have written on the board. We sprinkle in a few of the hot kitchen/appetizer items just to break through the routine of all the raw fish. Some notable items are the takoyaki and baked mussels - also the lychee sorbet for dessert. The staff have been great every time I've visited, too. Once, during a really busy rush, a waitress noticed that we've been waiting for our order for a long time and checked on our items for us. Another time, a waiter gave us a giant bowl of ginger after we requested refills. The latest time, our waitress advised us that the item we ordered wasn't very popular and suggested that we only get one just to try it out first -- and she was a saint for that! That truffle salmon dish wasn't great, but she was wonderful for warning us. We really appreciated the transparency.

We were treated to a celebratory dinner here and had a really nice experience overall. The staff…read morewas warm and friendly, and there were plenty of food and drink options to choose from. We opted for à la carte instead of all you can eat and tried a mix of classic rolls like yellowtail, along with fresh rolls including the Hamachi Lover and Salmon Lover. We also ordered the Sara special roll, sampled the albacore, and tried the mussels. Everything was beautifully presented. All around, a pleasant dining experience.

My friend got noodles and she said everything tasted fresh. There is a variety of food to choose from so whatever you are in the mood for they have it. Quality customer service. We came in on a Tuesday night and there was still a crowd, but we were seated within about 15 minutes. It was quite lively with a few larger groups were we were seated, but you could still talk amongst your group and be heard. As for the food, it is still some of the best fish I've tasted. The prices have definitely gone up in the 10ish years I've been coming, so it's probably more a rare treat than an occasional visit. Everything was super fresh and came out quick enough. The serving size for some of the dishes have diminished, for example, the Musolino Pasta. Considering the base is upon noodles, I'm surprised they're putting less into that rather than their fish. The sushi rolls and sashimi dishes we picked still had a lot of fish pieces and very very fresh. Just that one big ding on a non-sushi based dish and of course the prices. Aside from that, I still love coming here and the Fair Oaks location is still near and dear to my heart.
