I gave her a call and told her I wanted a three layer 6 inch semi naked cake without borders. She asked me what flavor and told me Likikoi was popular. Done. Mailed her a check. On the day of the wedding, she showed up with this beautiful cake, on a cake board complete with banana leaves (I bought and took a cake stand with me but I shouldn't have bothered), and even though I told her no flowers, she brought a ziploc bag with fresh flowers with stems prepared to decorate the cake. Guys, this level of service is so above and beyond on so many levels. First of all, my own $700 engagement cake made in LA made me get my own flowers from the florist for decoration! Second, this cake was METICULOUSLY made. I bake layered tiered cakes for the odd occasion, and I can appreciate the meticulous clean beautiful layers of cake, frosting, and lilikoi filling when the cake was cut open. Wow. Third, the cake was moist and delicious! Most guests went for seconds at least, and after the party was over, the whole cake was gone (this is a party of 9 adults, this was a LOT of cake per person!) I haven't written an extensive review in a long time but I cannot recommend Sandi's cakes enough. If you ever need a cake on Kauai, there is no question, Sandi is your gal. The ONLY thing that I could improve on the experience would be the ability to pay and communicate online. Perhaps Venmo or even Zelle would have been great. Then a confirmation text or call on the day of or the day before would also have been very nice. We picked up a whole Island Lemon Pie to take with us (forgot to get a photo). I got myself a slice of the Macadamia Nut Pie to go, which was delicious, especially with vanilla bean ice cream. Everything we've tried here has been consistently good and we've never had a bad experience. If you're planning a visit, try to get there early since popular flavors can sell out. They offer fruit smoothies that are much bigger than those across the street - $8 for 20 oz of fresh fruit smoothies instead of $9 for like 10 ounces across the street. They also offer other desserts like boba teas and halo halo, which we found to be very delicious and very reasonably priced. This would be great place to stop by before or after your hike at Waimea for baked goods, trail mix/chips, sandwiches and/or teas and dessert. I would highly consider ordering sandwiches and snacks to-go and then having them on my hike. I also ordered a malasadas and bought some trail mix for the road - all packaged by 4tea. I think the price points are great and the owners are very kind. However, I noticed the downside of this store is the small signage, which I couldn't even see eating at Island Taco. But what we did was park near Island Taco (since they do not have their own lot but instead they share the lot with a private homeowner). So I would park on the street or nearby and walk over. Alongside the trail mix, they also have fruit candies, chips, bakery items, and sandwiches of all kinds - all very reasonably priced. It's hard because this place does not have seating, but you can easily grab this food to go and enjoy it at a beach nearby like Salt Pond Park. I hope this business does well and that they get more foot traffic, which is why I'm writing this thorough review, noticing that they aren't on Yelp yet - Hope this local business does well!

Lucky for me the pie artist and owner responded within the day. I asked for a mango cream pie and was relieved Wayne was able to make my request happen within a week's notice, and even when mangoes aren't in season. I also ordered a tray of ube coconut scones, and finalized the detail in a quick and easy manner. The pick up was simple, and Wayne was so genuine in welcoming me to the island, and giving me further instructions in preserving the pie. There was even a thank you note attached. He bid us a well wishing farewell and safety for the rest of our stay. Our family was delighted with the balance of cream to mango. Refreshing was correct, Mango-cream-so-ono good!!! My MIL could not stop talking about the beauty of the crust and how amazing it tasted. The crust reminded me of shortbread cookies and it was decadently flakey enough to eat on its own. We were able to cut the pie in 8, and everyone finished their piece even after a large meal!! Once the family tried the ube scones, they could not stop at one. Each scone was so soft and tasty even my baby neice happily ate it. My significant other barely made it out the door with the last scone!! Well don't knock them until you try them! I tried their two most popular: Hawaiian Sea Salt, Toasted Coconut. And also the Aloha Ginger. --- bought all three! They weren't overly sweet despite being caramel, and did not stick to my teeth at all! They were soft, chewy, but melted right off my teeth. Well, we finally pulled the trigger on it and did the experience...and it was well worth it. Lance, the owner and instructor was fantastic. With only 8 spots available, you have to book this as soon as it is available. The shop is only 300 sq. Ft. So any more people would be too much and the set up was perfect. It is amazing this small space produces the chocolate! The overall lesson is great because he takes you from bean to chocolate. This is not tree to chocolate because he doesn't have the trees nor does he have the pods and that part of the collection process (however, Lance, if you or your wife are reading this, it might be a great future endeavor to have an option to work with one of your partners and add on the collection tour before!). While he doesn't have the collection process, Lance does an excellent job speaking to the process once beans are collected. From there, the chocolate making and tasting process is thoroughly explained and you are part of it. Finally, making your chocolate is a lot of fun and there are roughly 30 ingredients you can use for your 2 bars. I personally made: an Indian spice flavor chocolate for half a bar, coconut sea salt for second half, matcha coconut sea salt for 3rd half, and coffee bean sea salt for last). Bring your creativity!
