Wow! 11pm door dash of char kway to (flat wide rice noodles). It was so good, I want to try dining at the restaurant. Noodles were extra fresh with wok char. Only problem is there was only one small piece of Chinese sausage. Maybe it's end of night and they ran out or something. Otherwise, food authentic Asian food! read more

I'm actually shocked that, in all my perusing of Portland food spots, I'd never heard of Kuno before seeing it by chance in an Uber one day and deciding to investigate. This place is a food haven: small, cozy, affordable, and absolutely delicious. I came for dinner with my partner on a weekday evening, and it was totally empty except for one other party. The space is pretty small, but has a very quaint, homey atmosphere: think ambient lighting, darker wood, a simple menu. The service was fantastic. We were immediately welcomed in, and our waiter checked in on us often. We ordered the crab wontons to start, the Kuno chicken sandwich, and a fried rice that I now am forgetting the name of and can't locate on the online menu. We also ordered two cocktails. Everything came out hot and was absolutely delicious: you can just tell that the food here is made with love. The crab wontons were jaw-droppingly good -- I'll definitely be getting that again -- as was the fried rice, which had tender strips of chicken and that elusive wok hei that I've struggled to find in Portland restaurants. The fried chicken sandwich was great too, though smaller portioned. My partner and I tend not to order cocktails at restaurants, since so often you're getting three sips worth of a drink for something like $15, but Kuno's cocktails were such a treat. They were unique, tasty, complex, and actually sizable -- my cocktail kept me hydrated through the entirety of my entree, which is rare these days! Overall: I'm so grateful to have stumbled upon this spot. I can't wait to return! read more

I've driven down Cumberland Avenue countless times and somehow never noticed Kuno. It's an easy spot to miss -- definitely in "hole in the wall" territory --but it's one worth finding. On a recent snowy Saturday night, we were looking for a casual, affordable sit-down dinner. The challenge? It's Portland, so most places close by 9 pm. Kuno, open until 11 pm, was a welcome surprise. The restaurant has a cozy, neighborhood feel with plenty of free street parking nearby. When you walk in, the bar area is the first thing you see. It almost feels like the bar's the whole restaurant, but there's a small dining room tucked in the back. The bar itself seemed like a great spot to grab a cocktail and a bite, and I'd come back just for that. The menu isn't huge, but it has a solid variety. I stole a bite of my husband's spicy chicken sandwich, and it was easily a 10/10. The bread was fluffy, the chicken thick and juicy, and the slaw on top gave it a yummy twist. My ground chicken with basil came with a crispy fried egg, but it leaned a little salty. I also assumed the egg would be sunny-side up, which was on me. I'd still order it again, but the chicken sandwich was the clear winner. We also got a few apps: the wings were juicy with a generous portion, the pork dumplings were delish, and the crab wontons, while tasty, leaned more cream cheese than crab filling. Drinks-wise, they offered cocktails, beer, and even full bottles of wine; we ordered a $40 bottle of Italian red. Our two entrées, three apps, and wine came to about $110, which felt reasonable for the portions and quality, especially given the area. We left happy and will definitely be back when we're in the mood for no-frills Thai food. Kuno is exactly that -- homey, unpretentious, and casual, but still a place where you can order a reasonably priced bottle of wine and get solid service. read more

Stop by on a night out while visiting friends in the Portland area, and I was quite impress with my experience. My friend said the spot is popular for take out, and he hadn't actually sat down for dinner before. I can confirm that during our visit there was constant traffic of pick up orders. This is definitely a hidden gem in Portland. The restaurant/bar space is relatively small and cozy. We sat at the bar and the owner took good care of us. We had an order to the spicy wings and fried rice with veggies and chicken. The food was super flavorful. I cannot wait to be back in town and try more dishes and enjoy some takeout. read more

Small restaurant away from the hectic main area that packs a punch! The ambiance is relaxing, not much space at all. The bar seats 8 and there are a few additional tables in the back. What it lacks in space, it makes up in every other aspect! The Thai Iced Tea was yummy! We tried half of the items on the menu and each one was absolutely delicious. Far better than what we have in NY. The Shrimp Pad Tai- so amazing that I am still tasting it. The fried noodles and crab rangoon-great as well!! Its clear it is a popular spot. It was a a revolving door of takeout orders for a reason!!! read more

This is an absolutely fantastic place that I wish I could gate-keep from the world, but I should not. Perhaps one of the best local spots in Portland that hasn't "blown up" Service: wonderful. the guy that's always there is quite cheery and glad to explain dishes to you Food: the highlight. I have not had any bad dishes here - my favorites are nasi goreng (which I have never heard of until this place) and the fried chicken sandwich Atmosphere: never super busy. vibe-y looking bar and then an open space with tables for 2-4. I'm always in disbelief at how empty it usually is Prices are spot-on and on the cheaper side (for similar cuisine and type of restaurant), but they do things better here. I've probably been here ~10 times in the last 6 months and will likely be back at least 10 more in the next 6 months! read more

What a hidden gem! I found Kuno when I was vacationing in the area and was interested in trying some good Asian food. Kuno meets the mark! The restaurant isn't too large, but has an intimate, luxurious aesthetic. The bar area is dim and relaxing, great for date nights! The dining area is cozy and not too cramped. I enjoyed sitting next to the window and people watching! My server was very friendly and quick. He catered to my needs and provided prompt, but attentive service. I ordered the Korean Wings, Pork Dumplings, and Pad Thai. The wings were some of the best Korean wings I've ever had. I am usually suspicious when it comes to Korean chicken wings, because they're usually far too spicy and coated in too much breading. Kuno has the perfect balance! The breading was light and didn't take away from the star of the show: the sauce! The sauce is spice forward but ends with a sweetness that is incredibly cohesive. They make for a great appetizer alongside the pork dumplings. Those seared dumplings are SO yummy and I enjoyed the dipping sauce it came with. The taste reminds me of soup dumplings. It has a rich, velvety, umami flavor that is to die for. The Pad Thai was also great! Not as spicy as I'd expected, and came with WAY more bean sprouts than I'd hoped. However, the flavor is delicious and it's a huge portion size. I added shrimp and chicken to mine, as it usually only has tofu. I highly recommend Kuno. Whether you dine in or order take out, you will be satisfied! read more

Amazing. Here's why! did the chicken stir fry and the shrimp noodles and ordered the stir fried rice for a child. Requested child's meal to contain no heat/pepper and it was happily devoured by a 7 year old. Veggies, fried egg, chicken and all! Quick, delicious and good price! Gonna order again this week. read more

This place deserves more customers! There was only one other table on a Friday night but most of us were Asian, so you know the food is going to be good. It's a small menu but everything looked like solid options. We enjoyed the Char Kway Teow (chewy wide noodles with shrimp, Chinese sausage and bean sprouts) and stir-fry ground chicken with basil and a fried egg. The noodle dish was like elevated Pad See Ew and we loved the sweet-saltiness of the sausage. The stir fry had a wonderful spiciness level - not too much to overpower the flavors of the dish. Great prices too. If we lived here, we'd be regulars. read more

We love this place! A little off the trendy beaten tracks (of Washington Ave and the Commercial St. waterfront) but well worth the trip. We have spent time in Singapore (probably the best place to eat in the world...) and it is so nice to have authentic food from Southeast Asia here in Portland. The char kway teow (fried wide rice noodles (++) with shrimp) and the chicken wings are especially good, but everything we ordered was authentic and delicious! Our son LOVED their chicken sandwich. Very reasonably priced too. They do a pretty good takeout business, but we really like the ambience of the place; it doesn't look like much from the outside, but it is very nice -- simply and comfortably appointed -- for sit-down dining. The small staff is extremely nice (and efficient! read more

Fabulous Thai food in a great space to sit and eat, and also a beautiful bar. Sophisticated setting with reasonable prices. Loved the Thai basil lemonade, Pad Thai was fresh and not dried out, all the food was as good as New York. Need Delicious food delivered to your door at 10:30pm? Right here. If I added up all of the money I've spent on delivery from Kuno, I could probably buy a decent used car. Any regrets? NONE. Favorite item? Definitely the stir fry ground chicken with basil. It's perfect piping hot, it's perfect cold at 3am when you can't sleep and don't want the microwave to wake your roommate, and it's even perfect reheated the next day. That's next level people. Also trailing barely behind are the pad Thai with chicken, the Nasi Goreng, the Veggie green curry, the stir fry noodles, and the Brussels sprouts. I haven't yet tried the tangerine chicken, but...soon! You've got drinks at home? Forget you do and order a Thai ice tea and a Thai basil lemonade. Can't seem to pick a favorite, both equally good! Kuno, I love you. Never change! read more

I really like almost everything on the Kuno menu and have followed them from their very first roving food truck. Once they settled their food truck into the lot next to their new space, I continued to be a fan. They serve generous portions of delicious food. I love their tamarind wings, chicken sandwich and brussel sprouts! Here are my two current concerns: 1. Their hours, they seem to be open for a very limited number of hours and only on some days. I have driven all the way over, during listed "open" hours and they have been closed 2. I don't mind a limited menu, and Kuno makes the things they make super well, but sometimes, the menu may just have 4 choices, I would urge them to expand the menu, even just a little. read more

This was a delivery order. First, the expected delivery time was an hour, but I received my order in far less time. Kuno was very prompt in preppijg my order. Upon receiving my order, a Malaysian style fried rice, and a green curry veggie dish. Everything was still very warm with crisp and fresh veggies, and freshly cooked rice. Flavor wise, both dishes were delicious and perfect for what I wanted. Kuno is a great take out option for your Asian cuisine needs. read more

Food came quick and hot, but wasn't what we thought it would be. The Brussels sprouts have great flavor but are just soaked in grease it squirts out when you bite into them. We asked for 5 star pad Thai and it was barely a 1, had great flavor just no spice. The spicy chicken sandwich also had no spice at all but good taste. The wings and crab Rangoons were delicious. read more

If you're looking for a DOPE chicken sandwich, look no further. Quite possibly my favorite chicken sandwich in the city, thanks to the Asian slaw, brioche bun, and chili Mayo! And it comes with fries for only $14!! That's a STEAL by Portland standards! But seriously, everything on their menu is incredible - the Brussels sprouts, wontons, chicken wings. You literally can't go wrong no matter what you choose. Their only flaw is that they're only open in the evening, from 5-11pm, which is a bummer when you're craving that chicken sando at lunchtime. Seriously, that is a MUST if you order Kuno! read more

My tiny COVID POD meets occasionally at outdoor spots in our yards and the tables of outdoor dining, to make an attempt at feeling semi normal during these pandemic times. Kuno was one of the discoveries that made a chilly, Maine evening, feel like a little bit of magic. There menu has maybe 10 items on it, but everything was a winner, from the Fried Chicken Sandwich to the Brussel Sprouts. Despite it being a food truck, the essence of the spot made it more like a hip outdoor spot in the middle of a big city. Think courtyard in a lesser known part of Brooklyn. They are working on their brick and mortar, which is the spot where their food truck is parked, but during the pandemic, the food truck seems like a good spot to stay in. I will be returning here for take out as the months get colder, a definitely warm, bright spot in the upcoming dark winter. read more
