Do ever NEED bubble tea? Sometimes the answer is yes. After moving my youngest out of the dorm for the very last time I needed bubble tea. Kung Fu Tea was the perfect answer. Straightforward menu and fast service. I chose the Passionfruit Green Tea with regular Boba. What I got was exactly what I expected. Refreshing tea with yummy chewy tacpioca. No frills but still perfect. The store itself is nothing fancy. Lots of space study if that's what you need. Not a huge crowd, but it was weekday during finals week. Chauncey Hill seems to be in flux as far as businesses go. I hope Kung Fu sticks around. read more

Went in to give the place a try. I was not expecting what i walked into it was completely empty and kinda outdated and a little dirty. I still wanted to give it a shot. Wonderful and fun place, very bright and open, great atmosphere, lots to enjoy here with friends, excellent location too despite the crummy old Chauncy mall exterior, there is a huge menu with a typically boba tea confusing array of options. I have been getting the good beverages at various places for a couple years now but still have no clue exactly what I'm ordering. No different here, maybe I'm too old for this youthful cultured brew but it sure it tasty whatever I get! Glad to see prices a bit better than others, still too easy to end up pricy but hey, treat yourself! We did a coffee boba, quite tasty, extremely sweet, jelly seemed a lil old or overly chewy. First time visiting this place, and the tea was really good. On the higher price end of most boba milk teas I've had but also one of the best. The negative review is because I unfortunately found a small piece of metal in my drink. The way they seal the top leaves no question that it was in my drink before it was sealed. I hope it is just some crazy fluke, but please look into it. I ordered a honey oolong with boba if that helps narrow down where the metal might have come from. read more

Rarely do I hand out a two star review, but KungFu Tea was not ideal. There were three strikes against them: 1. The drink I ordered was suppose to be hot, not cold. I wasn't even aware they had misinterpreted my order as they did not ask about ice or sugar level desired. 2. The "shu mai", which included 8 pieces for $4 (including tax), was about the width of a quarter each (and about the height of one to, come to think of it), and tasted terrible. 3. The overall ambience included dim lighting, the server watching a Chinese soap opera at full volume without headphones near my table, and slightly gross magazines that haven't been updated since 2016. While the prices aren't unreasonable, I will be making the walk to Latea next time or visit the Latea place in the Purdue Union. read more

I got the Oreo Wow and it was really good. Because it was made with lactaid it didn't leave me feeling sick and they didn't force me to get a big size. Sometimes at other places you're forced to get the biggest size for certain drinks. read more

Kung Fu Tea for me has to be one of the places that most reminds me of home (Bay Area, California) while I was at Purdue. It's definitely one of the most CONVENIENT bubble tea places, as I lived in the dorms or apartments on campus. Almost every Saturday, I'd either go downtown to Star City or here (depending on what kind of mood I was in) to study or write. A lot of the time, I'd come here, since they open later than Star City (so I can stay longer) and Greyhouse is pretty much packed on the weekends. KFT gets pretty full too, and you'll definitely have to shoulder a spot here during the weekend, but still easier to maneuver just because how much space their is. Definitely, in terms of bubble tea places, this one is one of the biggest and most room per seat capita. You don't have to fight for room to sit or squeeze through with the people who are standing in line to order. For college students, it's important to note that they DO SERVE COFFEE. Not the sheer breadth and variety of an actual coffee shop, but you can at least get coffee, lattes, mochas, cappuccinos, and macchiatos here. I find that their large, long tables are an advantage. This was convenient for me because I like to spread things out when I work, but also in that it was great for when I'm going out with a group (whether the group consisted of clubs or a group project). I think a lot of people have already noticed, but the booths with said long tables make great spots to hang out, talk, and play games. Personally, I've always thought the lighting could be better, but it's not too bad and it's probably just the nitpicking preferences of as someone who has done a lot of writing and reading there. It's just so comparatively dim when it's daytime, and ESPECIALLY SO in the summer. During the summer and fall times, I sit at one of the smaller tables in front of the large window because the light is just PERFECT for reading. They ARE a chain restaurant. I've recently found out we actually had a Kung Fu Tea locally, but it went out of business a bit ago. To be fair, the Bay Area has a butt-ton of boba places and competition here is FIERCE. KFT has the option to adjustment of ice and sugar like much like LaTea, and a flavor profile that definitely lean towards what is typically favored by Asians. By this, I mainly mean a habit of making the drink less sweet, and more varieties and combination of fruit flavors. Additionally, I realized they had more options that were a bit more unfamiliar to a number of friends. Things like wintermelon, herbal jelly, red bean, grapefruit, longan, jujube, taro, and brown sugar ginger. They do have some of these options at other areas, but I feel there is more of a concentration of these kinds of drinks and Asian food here. The most important example of this is the fact that they have SNOW (labeled as snow cream aka. a kind of shaved ice where the actual flavor's ingredient is made into a frozen block and then shaved). But desserts aside, I feel that of all the bubble tea places in the area that also serves good food and portions suitable enough for a filling meal (when you're a student, gotta get that snack that could also act as a meal and eat when you're studying), it's here or HiTea. By ranking, I'd go to LaTea for bubble tea/actual tea that leans a bit more towards the Western palette, Kung Fu Tea towards a sort of middling Asian-American palette, and HiTea for the most "ethnic" so to speak. They all have their good points, and I think it's mostly the matter of taste preferences. As someone who loves fruit and ended growing to really like their popcorn chicken, Kung Fu Tea was one of my favorites in West Lafayette. read more

Located in Chauncey Mall, this new bubble tea spot is going to give the other local shops a run for their money. Unlike the other places in town, this location has a ton of space. I find myself crowded and antsy at the other places, but could totally grab a table and stay for awhile here. They even have board games to play, which is another nice touch! I ordered their Large Kung Fu Milk Tea with bubbles. They will adjust your sweetness and amount of ice too, which I appreciate. My dad got the Coffee Milk Tea and it was great, too. Love this new addition to Chauncey Mall. Their prices are among the cheaper bubble teas in town. I like that they have a larger selection of fresh-brewed teas, whereas most of their competitors carry only one, or no fresh-brewed teas. (Powder mixes are weird in my opinion, KFTea probably has a few powdered flavors also.) I also like that they have a system in place to let you choose how sweet you want your tea. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable for being a new location. Would highly suggest coming here rather than one of many full restaurants that also offer bubble tea. read more

This place is terrible. I am amazed how badly they can screw up a milktea place! First of all, I am 99% sure that the store owner is just playing tricks saying that the machine doesn't work so none of the rewards from the kungfu tea app will work. He said if I want to use the deals/rewards I'll need to try another store. Obviously this is the only kungfu tea close to campus and he knows crystal clear that I won't have another easy option to use the app. It's so easy for him to claim "the machine is broken" so he doesn't need to give free drinks from the rewards program. I am pretty sure he won't want to fix it (or is it really broken?) so be cautious everyone, if you want to use your rewards or collect points/bubbles from the kunfu tea app by shopping in the store, that's not gonna happen. Please correct me if I'm wrong-if anyone has successfully claimed rewards from the store recently. I am not trying to accuse the owner of sth he didn't do, but I just think the whole thing is very fishy. He just thinks he has the big name/brand effect of kungfu tea so people will come one way or another. It may earn him benefits in the short run, but he will lose customers in long term. That is NOT the way to do business! Additionally, their tea is not even good! The milktea looks paler than the ones I usually have and it just tastes super watery. I feel like I'm drinking slightly milky taste water, barely detecting any tea flavor. After drinking the tea, the empty cup's wall has stains/marks left by the tea just like the mark of powdered milk. At this point I do not know if I should worry about the content of the milktea... AND they charge you $0.5 extra if you are paying with card. Last but not least, when entering the store, there is this stale old smell that feels like a basement that hasn't had air circulated for years. It's just hard to breathe with the low oxygen concentration. How hard it can be to have good air circulation in the store? Besides, it is super dark in the store that no matter how many tables and board games they offer, the place just feels shady. I will never come back to this store, at least not this branch. And I suggest you do the same, unless you want the poor/tricky service and milktea with crappy quality. read more
