Ordered 2 shrimp fried rice to take out after the movies, to eat at home. Had previously gone there for hibachi and always enjoyed the rice although the meats tend to be hit and miss, so assumed that take out rice would be just as good. Boy was I wrong. Over $23 for 2 plastic containers of mushy rice that was so overcooked it literally didn't break apart when you put in the fork but came out in clumps of yucky mushy mess. As for the shrimp, there were 5 in one tray, 4 in the other, undersized and chewy. No real vegetables to speak of except for about 3 peas and 2 tiny scraps of cut green bean. Very disappointing .. won't make that mistake again. Would have given a 1 star if I hadn't had a decent hibachi in the past, but to be clear, the take out was beyond disgusting. read more

The food at this Kume was way overcooked but the service was much worse. Our chef did not do any of the hibachi "tricks" that we've come to expect and that the kids in our party were looking forward to. He didn't do the onion volcano, the egg trick, or squirting the "kids' sake" into their mouths, even though the chefs at some of the other grills in the room were doing these things. When we asked afterwards why the chef didn't do any of this, instead of offering an apology the manager offered a series of really dumb excuses, beginning with: "The chef is tired and he didn't have time to eat dinner," then moving on to "We're so busy tonight and how am I supposed to know how busy it's going to be?" and finally to this doozy: "Well, you didn't tip him while he was cooking and you have to tip him if you want him to do those things." Worse management we've ever seen at a restaurant. read more

This restaurant is great. Unique for this area and always delicious. This review is based primarily on the non-hibachi options. (The hibachi is good but a bit standard faire - hibachi is more of an "experience" anyway.) although we aren't Japanese connoisseurs, Kume's sushi, noodles, and soups are always incredibly tasty and surprisingly light - the sign of a well cooked meal. You can eat multiple courses and still feel full without being weighed down by grease or heavy tones. Sit down service has always been great and takeout service can take away, but somewhat understandable as meal is fresh and restaurant is usually packed. Really love having this as an alternate to American Chinese food. read more

I went there for Happy Hour! Sat down ordered and clearly stated I was getting the happy hour special. Which is half price appetizers! I ordered 3 different appetizers and everything was fine until I got my bill. They charged me full price appetizers so I called the waitress over and told her the problem. She then tells me oh we don't do happy hour for the dining room only the bar. I then told her the woman who took my order told me I could have Happy Hour prices. She refused to fix my bill! I have been coming to this restaurant for awhile getting the Happy Hour special and never was told bar only. When you go to this restaurant please watch your total on your bill. They are pretty sneaky! It's a shame cause of the way they handled everything I will never go back. read more

My wife and I tried it the week they first opened. It was packed! Wait time to get in to the hibachi side was one hour and so we took the last dining booth available. Service was lacking but I would give them the benefit of the doubt since it just opened. The food was outstanding! I don't do sushi and had a chicken/steak combination dinner accented with a few shrimp, it was very good as was the soup, salad, noodles, and veggies. Made a second trip this week and the service and food were really good. Will certainly return. read more

I ate there on 09/10/13. It was my first time there. We ordered vegetable tempura for an appetizer and never got it. The chef was great. He put on a great show. The fried rice was bland, the teriyaki sauce was watered down, the hot mustard was week, and a child sitting with the family next to us found a bug in his food. I am not kidding. He got his meal for free and a free kid's drink. I have been to several Japanese Steakhouses and I am still looking for a good one in the area. So far, nothing compares to the Oki Steakhouse in North Providence. It's too bad I live too far away. read more

It was far from Haverhill but it was worth it. You can sit in regular booths or in the typical Japanese steakhouse section. They have digital menus at the tables. The food was good and there were many options. I will go back. read more

I really enjoy eating here. I enjoy the sushi, hibachi, and entrees. The service is excellent and everyone there is very friendly. The only thing that is unfortunate is the restaurant is on the small side so there can be a bit of a wait most nights. read more

My wife & I had looked at this restaurant a couple of times since it opened - for me sushi is a real draw - but passed on it. Based on what I saw from my fellow Yelpers Friday night was finally the time to go inside - and it's sad we'd missed out on one of the best in the area all this time. They have a much more diverse menu than I had thought (the one that was posted on the window in the past was lacking), best of all a full on sushi/sashimi menu with a very large selection. Since the specialty rolls do not come with the extras in the entrees I was torn on soup or salad - I decided on the Tom Yum Soup. An excellent choice, Calamari, Scallops & Shrimp in a spicy cheesy broth - excellent! My entrée was based on the photos I saw on Yelp - Beauty & The Beast - a tasty collection of Avocado, Spicy Tuna topped with Tuna/Yellowtail & "special Sauce". As yummy as it looked. No room for dessert which is sad because they had more choices than I'd ever seen in this type of restaurant before, maybe some other day - because we will be back soon! read more

We finally tried Kume last night and all the positives (good sushi, fresh ginger salad dressing, clear soup, friendly staff) were completely wiped out by the fact it was so cold in there! We both are with our coats and scarfs on, still not enough to protect us. Our hibachi meals became ice cold within minutes of delivery to our table and therefore we lost our appetites. Literally the worst dining experience all due to the cold. I am at a loss as to why this is not addressed - all the other patrons were also obviously uncomfortable as well. Too bad because this could have been added to the dining rotation for us. read more

Delicious sushi and nice atmosphere. My girlfriend and I are regular sushi eaters and we met here for a lunch and they were wonderful. I can't wait to go back. read more

The teppenyaki is very entertaining and well done. The sushi is imaginative, and usually fresh and tasty. The Chinese food is quite adequate. The place gets full on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking is recommended. read more

The food is easily 4 stars, but the reason I am giving 1 star is due to the poor service I had last night. I live 15 minutes away, and I called in a sushi order. I showed up and the hostess had somehow forgotten to give the kitchen my order, so I had to wait for them to put my order in line with the rest of the sushi orders. She told me it would be 10 min. After 10 min, I asked her to check on my order. It still wasn't ready. I was told that it was a really busy night and they apologized - it was a Wed night. What is service like on a weekend?? They offered me a water while I waited. Wow, no thanks. Because this is the closest sushi place to where I live, I will go back. But my birthday is coming up, and after this episode, I have no plans to celebrate anything at this establishment. ****** - I need to update my review - I received an email shortly after this review from Kume, and they were very sorry about my experience, and sent me a $25 gift card. I was pleasantly surprised and very excited because i'm due for another sushi dinner. Thanks!! read more

So my boyfriend and I often check out new sushi places because we have a problem and we love sushi. In order to feed our addiction we gave Kume a try. The first time we got a standard sushi platter and it was pretty killer. We actually enjoyed it more than Shio although if we're being honest here, we didn't like that much (please don't hurt me Shio lovers). Anyway, it was awesome and we went back a couple more times. We tried the Habachi the next time which was pretty great but nothing too extravagant so to summarize it in one word, it was "ehh". The last time we went we decided to play it safe and get our usual sushi. That was fabulous as always but we also decided to be slightly adventurous and get the fried calamari. Now, we've had fried calamari many other times before just not here. Let me tell you ladies and gentlemen, it was terrible. It was extremely thick and rubbery. Pretty much impossible to bite through. At the end of the day we still love Kume but we'll probably avoid the fried calamari in the future. Edit: My boyfriend and I gave Kume another try and we were disappointed. I originally rated Kume as a 4-star but unfortunately I have to bring it down to a 2-star. Honestly, the sushi is pretty decent. Definitely not the best we've had, but it's something we'll settle for. We were in the area and my boyfriend wanted hibachi so we decided to come here. I wasn't really in the mood for hibachi so I decided I would get sushi. We were sat and when it was time to order my boyfriend ordered his meal and then I went to order mine. I was cut off mid sentence and rudely the waitress said I wasn't allowed to get sushi in the hibachi area. We explained to her that at a different restaurant we were able to do that (which was true) and she said that since we weren't family to the others at the table we couldn't. I told her that I wasn't interested in any of the hibachi choices and I wanted sushi so she then decided to move us to the other part of the restaurant. My boyfriend was able to get his hibachi meal and I was able to get my sushi. He got a New York steak and a filet. The filet was extremely chewy. In the end we weren't too happy with the experience. We happy to find a comment card in our check though so we were able to let them in our experience. Probably not coming back in the future. read more

This is a great place. I has become our go-to place for New Years dinner. The menu is great and we are never disappointed. Portions are good, combination meals include soup and salad. Lunch and dinner offerings are reasonably priced. Great bar too, sushi that is. I have had amazingly beautiful and delicious plates of sushi and sashimi here. read more

We've eaten here a few times, but mostly get carry-out sushi. It is always consistently good-never any complaints and we've tried a large variety of rolls. It definitely rivals Shio in Portsmouth, in our opinion. read more

Just had a Birthday lunch,we were having a good time until the bill came! Tasshi on the phone said he would take care of us don't worry I will take care of everything. NOT! I asked him why he was charging us he said I take off 15% wow 6.00. When I phoned you about the aweful meal we had at the Kume in Seabrook you said that you would make it up to us, on our next Birthday! I offered to pay for the sushi, and the beer if he would pay for our lunch like he said he would... he said no I can't pay for everything I'm in business to make money, you were a little arrogant with me Tasshi I don't know if you were having a bad day, but it rubbed off on us tI just want to say THANKS ALOT FOR WRECKING MY BIRTHDAY LUNCH! WE WERE EXTREMELY UPSET UPON LEAVING YOUR ESTABLISHMENT! I was so upset I forgot to give the nice waitress a tip my apologies to her. Thanks for keeping your word Tasshi you ruined our day! You were really nice on the phone, but not so nice at all in person you put me on the defensive you really didn't want to hear what I had to say at all, meaning I offered to show you the receipt 3 times to show you what we paid for the aweful lunch in Seabrook Kume. Don't say things if your not going to follow through with them! read more

After several more visits I think this review deserves an update. The sushi bar is great, the sushi chefs are interactive and creative which makes for a great visit. I really have enjoyed every visit to this restaurant, but have an issue only with the menu. They really need to figure out a kids option other than hibachi for the restaurant side. My kid wanted a chicken or steak teriyaki bowl and the only option is a $20 teriyaki meal. It would be great if they took another look at menu options for kids. read more

My wife and daughters just ate at Kume in Epping. As i write this, two of them are taking turns being sick in the bathroom. I examined their leftovers (chicken tempura), and they are only partially cooked, and the chicken is slimy and very unpleasant looking. Forget unappetizing food, this place is downright dangerous. read more

The hibachi chef was great and very entertaining. The noodle dishes were very good as well.

I would advise buyer beware ordered two voda drinker off their menu. 5,50 for small and 7 for tall. without asking charged us for belvadere vodka 8.50 and 12.50 never will go back place was empty trying to pad the bill read more

Great food and nice decor. Owners/managers and servers are super nice. Our party had drinks, the sushi and the hibachi menu items. All were delicious! Make reservations if you want to sit at the hibachi grill. On a Saturday night, the wait was about 2 hours. read more

I feel like Kume is either hit or miss. My first experience here I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the lighting, the all-around feel. The food was amazing and the sushi was prepared in a pretty presentation. We told the waitress how much we loved the place and couldn't wait to go back. Our second visit, the sushi wasn't as nice-looking and the restaurant wasn't really packed, so the careless-ness of the sushi cook made me think that our first visit was a fluke. Our third visit was average, but they did give us the little tablet to use to view their sushi specials which made the place seem more fancy. The most recent visit, we were awed again by the presentation. But it didnt help us forget the wait we had to be seated. We showed up around 645 on a saturday night and were told that it would be an hour wait. The hostess took my phone number and recorded our names down. We told her it wouldn't be a problem because we figured we could go shopping. We showed back up at around 750 to have us still not have seats. We weren't seated until 820. Hopefully my next experience will be one that can change my rating to 4 stars. read more

My family loves going here for sushi. I've been to a lot of different sushi places over the past 25 years and this is towards the top-end that I've had and I'm glad Kume is close by. The sashimi deluxe and the special "Amy" roll are a nice start... Uni, Ikura and Tobiko with qual eggs are like our dessert.. and the sake, need I say more. And you can always get a hibachi dinner or just hibachi rice or noodles even if you are eating sushi in the tabled area. Oh... the oysters are awesome too. The staff is really friendly and make us feel at home here. Thanks! read more

it's ok, the habatchi is fun and the food was good but the dinning room was ok.

Delicious food. The hibachi is a fun interactive experience. The dining room is very good as well if you prefer not to do the hibachi. Sushi was very good as well read more

My wife and I get the fairly priced lunch special -- three rolls, soup and salad for $12. The soup tastes like it came from a mix, and the salad is loaded with a generic "Asian" dressing. Kume isn't breaking any new ground with its rolls, but I like them because the fish is always fresh, the avocado they use on certain rolls is soft and ripe, and they have a decent selection of fish to choose from. My favorite rolls are the eel avocado and the salmon avocado. I give Kume four stars because it's not expensive, and they use quality ingredients. Also, the staff is very nice. read more

Very friendly staff, great food and fun atmosphere! I highly recommend Kume.

This place awful. Service was horrible food was ok but very over priced for the amount you get. We asked to speak to a manger because our food came out in 15-20 minutes increments we got two then we got two more 15 minutes later then the last two 20 minutes later. When we got the last two plates the food was cold so the manager came over and was apologizing but he seemed to care less. The server was impossible to get her attention to get drinks or anything. We will not be going back. read more

The atmosphere of this hibachi is really nice and relaxing. You can choose to either sit at the grill where the chef will prepare the food in front of you or at a table where it is brought out like any other restaurant. The food is a little pricey and the portions are on the small side for the price, but the food is presented really well and is delicious. The drinks are on the cheaper side and are actually mixed pretty strong, they are good though! With everything considered if the portion sizes could go up just a little to match the price tag this would be a 5 star dining facility. read more

Very disappointed with our experience at Kume, When we arrived there was no one to greet us to the restaurant. After a few minutes the bartender came over and sat our party of three at one of their hibachi tables. We were seated with a family of four that got there before us. 25 minutes after being seated, we had still not even seen a server to order our drinks with. There was four other tables that were seated and we only noticed one hibachi chef. At 7:00 a full 30 minutes after being seated we decided to leave. The other table of four I believe also left. Kume has a lot to prove if they want to make it at brickyard square. With the opening of more restaurants it will be hard for them to compete for business with such poor service. read more

Horrible meal, worst I've had in a while. I ordered chicken teryaki with a soup that tastes like dirty feet the chicken didn't even taste like teryaki and the other meal was a steak wrapped with Vegetables inside was bland. Also never received knives even though we ask 3+ times read more

We normally drive out to Shio for Japanese food so we're excited that Kume opened in Epping since it's closer to us than Portsmouth. We first went to Kume within the first week of them opening and it was great. We had several different types of hand rolls, some grilled appetizers (yakitori, etc) and lots of different sushi as well. Everything was awesome including the service. Good, clean, fresh food as good as Shio and a little less expensive too. However, the last couple of times we went we had issues with one thing or another. Example: I ordered maguro (tuna) but what I received wasn't tuna or if it was it was a cheap cut of tuna but not a yellowtail quality. It was tough, crunchy and kind of hard as if it were frozen. Not a good thing. I called my waiter and told him I wasn't happy with the tuna and he said he'd let the chef know. He came back a couple of minutes later and told me the chef said it was a cut from a different part of the tuna and wouldn't charge us. (I wasn't planning on paying for the half bite I took anyway). Crunchy tuna? Tuna (especially a toro; fatty tuna) should practically melt in your mouth. Then the last time we went with friends we were all a little disappointed; maybe because we were crammed in a booth like sardines. For example the rice seemed like it just came out of the refrigerator. It was cold and not soft. We ordered edamame but it was served with our meals not as an appetizer. Not all meals were served at the same time. There was a big gap in between. Stuff like that. Not major issues that will keep me from trying it again but annoyances enough to say that Kume isn't anywhere as good as Shio. read more

My wife and I along with two friends stopped in to the Kume Japanese Steak House and Hibachi on Saturday night and were told by the hostess that it would be a 1 hour wait for a table at the Hibachi. No problem. We sat at the bar while we waited and had a cocktail and an appetizer which we ate and settled quickly, thinking we would shortly be seated. After an hour and 15 minutes we asked how much longer it would be since we had been told an hour. At this time the lounge area we were in was 50% empty with our party being the only people still at the bar waiting. We were told by the hostess that they were just settling up a table and as soon as it was cleaned we would be seated. 30 minutes later, and still not seated we asked for the manager. I don't think I have ever dealt with a more unprofessional individual in the food services industry in my life. He was completely unapologetic, rude, and argumentative and simply walked away while we were talking with him. We left and within 30 minutes were enjoying a fantastic meal at the Tuckaway Tavern in Epping. Poor service and ignorant unprofessional management makes the Kume a permanent no-go. I would never advise anyone to waste their time on Kume read more

I finally went to Kume tonight with my son for dinner after a movie. For appetizers, we got pork gyoza and tempura. For rolls we got two of the chef's specialty rolls, the Lady in Red and the Beauty and the Beast. For sashimi we got tuna, white tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and toro. The gyoza was a bit greasy, not delicate at all. The tempua was just ok. All of the veggies were kind of tasteless except the piece of eggplant. It did come with two shrimp, but taste wise I could barely tell. The toro was terrible, the worst I have ever had! There were large, thick pieces of sinew running through it. I almost told the waiter to take it back prior to eating it, just by how it looked, and after eating it, I wish I had! It was very chewy, and the small amount of meat in between the sinew didn't even taste that good. The white tuna also had sinew, making it chewy as well. The other pieces of fish were tender. Overall the pieces of fish were practically tasteless. The only flavor was from the soy sauce and even that was pretty weak tasting. The yellowtail was the only fish that was actually decent. Sadly, the two rolls had very little flavor as well. As for service, the waiter was attentive until he took our order. The only time we saw him after that was when he delivered the food and the check. After he delivered the appetizers, I dropped one of my chopsticks, and he was no where to be found. So, I got up and went to the side of the sushi bar, where supplies for the tables were kept for the servers, and I grabbed a new pair. After the sashimi and rolls were delivered, I realized that the table did not have little dishes for soy sauce. Once again, the waiter was no where to be found, so I went back up to the side of the sushi bar and grabbed two dishes for my son and I. Overall it was a very sub par experience. The food, for the most part, was tasteless and the service was lacking. I really don't understand how this place has a 4 star rating...perhaps it is because of the hibachi, which we didn't have. As a sushi restaurant, this place is just not good! read more

Not much to say about this place that is good, except for maybe the decor. Other than that we were very disappointed. We waited forever, granted Hibachi is usually somewhat of a wait, but when you have 8 stations and 2 cooks, its a little ridiculous. We also had a seafood allergy in the party, which we informed them of ahead of time, and when the food was brought out it was all on one tray, including the seafood the other people at the table had ordered. We said something immediately and the chef told them to make hers separate in the kitchen. Fine. He continued to make our food (not very entertaining either) all the while still waiting on the food from the kitchen. The chef finished our food, cleaned up, and left. We ate our (not very good) food...still waiting on our food from the kitchen that hadn't touched seafood. The entire table had finished eating, and the couples on both sides of us had PAID, when we finally received our food from the kitchen. You would think after messing up like that they would put a little hustle in cooking her the right food. They brought us our checks and had comped us a whole 10% (which equaled out to be $5 and change.) And weren't very apologetic either. Needless to say we will NEVER go back there. read more

as is common with a restaurant that gets popular fast, this just isnt as good as when first opened..it is constantly crowded and very difficult to get a seat ..sometimes you have to wait 45 minutes to an hour.. that is ridiculous for sushi.. that is now just mediocre portion sizes of the sushi used to be much larger than they are now ..I think they may have gotten too big too fast ..not as big a fan anymore read more
