me and my friend went to this restaurant and we got sushi, the salmon tasted like someone stuck a piece of ham in the middle of the roll. that was not fish, that was HAM. i got home and i had explosive diarrhea due to the ham tasting fish. it was really funky and it made me have the runs for days...

One thing about Kume: it's reliable. I've gone here probably 20+ times and I've never had a mistake in my food or bad service. It's always just right! The sushi is great- nothing too fancy but it's yummy. My fav is the Christmas roll. The hibachi is really great too. I especially love takeout because they make it quite easy and seamless. Their drinks are delicious as well! We loved the virgin piña colada despite it being in the middle of winter

I have been to the Kume in Topsham, ME a few so I wanted to check out their August location to see if the quality of food matches their Topsham location. It did in my opinion. The location is sort of tucked away in the back of an area where there is many retail store and restaurants once you navigate the windy road of Stephen King Drive. Nobody knows how to drive this road so be on the defensive. This location has two sections of the restaurant, the hibachi side where you are entertained by their talented chefs while eating and the dining side where you are waited on by their staff. I chose the dining side which was a short wait as it's a smaller dining room. Appearance was well kept, bar is quite large, had a large fresh water fish tank and all staff presented as professional wearing masks. We started with the Pork filled Gyoza which is a pan fried dumpling and they were delicious. Nothing disappointing with them. Dumplings had plenty of filling, nice pan fried with one side being crispy and the other pillow soft from being steamed. The sauce was complimentary to the dumpling. We then dove into two different plates. The first one was the Red Dragon Roll. It is Shrimp Tempura, cucumber, avocado, topped w/crunchy pano and spicy tuna. It has a little spicy kick to it, but not overpowering at all. This has been one of my favorite sushi rolls from Kume. The second plate was the Maki Combination which is 3 different rolls: shrimp tempura roll, California and spicy tuna. I had no complaints as all ingredients were fresh, cooked well and nicely put together. I mixed up some soy sauce and wasabi which I dip my sushi rolls into to add additional flavor. I had no complaints as all of them were plentiful and satisfied my craving for sushi. Staff was very friendly, professional, always checking on us to ensure our experience and the quality of the food was to our standards and in some cases overly polite, but I understand that is their culture and upbringing. If I find myself in the Augusta area craving sushi, I will stop by here again. It's worth the visit.

the last time we were hereI was disappointed in the calamari & soft shell crab. They were way too over fried. The calamari was too chewy to eat. So they took it off the bill. The rolls & sushi were very good. This time, I asked for no white fish on the Daryl Dixon roll, but extra topika, it was outstanding!! I also tried the Tempura tuna roll. It is a new favorite. The tuna tataki was chewie than last time, but after my husband's sushi came, I realized that it had been Toro, which is the prime tuna, but usually melts in your mouth. It tasted good but was way too chewy. My last visit, the tataki, was perfect. My husband's sushi was beautiful, fresh, with big portions. Although toro was chewy. We will definitely return next time we are in Augusta.

This time we brought the whole family for dinner. I'd recommend reservations on weekends since it was packed, but we got seated right away because we planned ahead. Our waitress was top-notch -- high energy, charming, attentive. I'd give her 6 stars if I could! She read our crew well and adapted to each individual at the table -- a skill that clearly came from experience, and it served her (and us) well. Everything we had was great: cocktails, appetizers, dinner -- not a bad thing on the table. But the standouts for me were the Buffalo Cauliflower and the Spicy Shrimp Shio Ramen. For drinks, the seasonal Crazy (whiskey, Amaro Montenegro, beet, cayenne, lemon, egg white) and the Veruca Salt (tequila, coconut, avocado, pineapple, lime) were both incredible. I loved them so much I'm making a special trip back to town during my stay just to have them again ;) Bravo, State Lunch! You've got a fan for life. The place was clean and nice. And the foods flavor was good. Now, the bad. While the flavor of the food was good, the food itself wasn't. Everything was extremely dry. We got the hush puppies to start and the sampler to try a little of everything. It was like a desert it was so dry. The hush puppies, chicken, ribs, brisket (which was more like pulled pork because they shred it for some reason) corn bread, and somehow both the coleslaw and baked beans, too. The only way this happens is if they make things earlier in the day and then everything just sits. Meaning it's not freshly made. As I mentioned, it was not very busy, so I'm assuming they make their food in advance and let it sit in pans over heat all day. Which is not what you do with BBQ. It's quite disappointing because the flavor is there. The spices they use were a southern flavor, which is good; but it's so dry, you'll be reenacting the scene from Christmas Vacation just to eat your food. They should consider either limiting their hours they are open to help not have food sitting around to dry out or reconsidering how the make their food. Dry BBQ is the worst, hopefully they'll make the appropriate changes.

Lots of beers on tap to try including local beer from some of Maine's finest and a good selection of mixed drinks and wine of courser. The food is standard pub grub. I've had eaten here for years and the food is consistent, portions are generous, and you certainly won't leave hungry. There are stick-to-your-ribs bangers and mash, the Guinness stout beef pot pie is popular (comes out with a puff pastry topping the size of your head), and this is one of the few places in Maine where you can get a Scotch Egg. I like the Cornish pasties myself - they taste like grandmas home cooking. I recommend starting with the highland bites with a tangy mustard sauce to dip in or the spinach artichoke dip with lots of tortillas. I was in a big group on my last visit and we all just ordered a bunch of apps and nom'd on them family style. Wings were amazing too, cooked well and seasoned perfectly. The servers are super friendly, your drinks and food comes out quickly, even when they are super busy. This makes a great lunch stop for working professionals in the downtown businesses. They offer live music regularly and on those nights it can get loud, not the best if you want intimate conversation. But, if you want rollicking Irish music around friends and beers - this is the place. The establishment is fairly large so they can accommodate groups, and there is a screened-in deck (that is also heated for winter dining). The atmosphere is similar to what you'd expect in a local Irish pub. TV's scattered around the place, the benches at the long large tables appear to be repurposed church pews so that's neat. They definitely have local regulars and the owner is usually around, everyone is welcome here and you will have a good time while eating and drinking with your crew! Plenty of free parking in lots, the street, and the nearby parking garage, handicap accessible.

It wasn't Michelin dining but it was quite good, and after eating lobster multiple times per day during this four day Maine trip, a solid slab of beef really hit the spot. If I had to nitpick, the Caesar salad dressing could use a little more garlic and/or lemon as it tasted a little plain like just bland creaminess as opposed to a real caesar dressing but cmon I know this is a Texas Roadhouse, I'm not going to nitpick.
