It's the food you wanna nom camped out on the couch in front of a good movie. Portions are SUPER generous, and my family firmly believes they have the best crab rangoons and eggrolls in the greater Augusta area. There are endless specials and lunch combinations and everything I have tried I have enjoyed. The pu-pu for two with fried rice is, of course, their MVP. Service is fast and friendly, the staff are always accommodating, polite, and happy to chat. If you visit once, there is a good chance they will remember you and your favorite drink! The inside decor is dated in a 1980's charming kind of way. You can tell the tables and booths are well loved and well used. Traditional hot tea, soft drinks, beer, and wine are available and the cocktails come in the exotic glasses with all the paper umbrellas and maraschino cherry garnish. Tonight though, we went for dinner and was ignored by the server, sat there for 10 minutes as she waited on her friends and had several conversations with them. I called before placing an online order to make sure what goes in lo mein. I asked if bean sprouts are going in. She said no. I asked if water chestnuts are in it. She said no. I said oh great, and I ordered it. But it came with pea pods which was nasty. So the second time I ordered, I made sure not to put pea pods in them. Guess what I got. As I was walking out, I saw a delivery guy. I asked him if she's the only one who answers the phone. He said yes. So yes the owner not only lies to the customer, not also tries to get out of the situation. I think she forgot that there are two more Chinese restaurants. And she was also bitching about me in Chinese. No I am not Chinese. I'm Japanese Korean American. But my sister speaks perfect Chinese and she told me what they were saying cause I had her on the phone and put her on a speaker so she could hear me and when I got to the car, she could tell me what they were saying. Stopped here while on a trip through town, unfamiliar with the local options. Although the past reviews were not stellar, we were in the mood for Chinese and so we took a chance. The decor is straight out of the 1980s, and so is the menu. Classic rock and 1980s heavy metal was playing lightly from the overhead speakers. Extremely strange. In terms of food, the menu is your standard Americanized-Chinese fare. Although overly salted, the wonton soup was chock full of Chinese veggies, water chestnuts, pork slivers, snow peas and wontons. If I had stopped there, I probably would've given the place three stars. However, the remaining dishes were mediocre at best. This is a place that has made these dishes 1000 times, and knows how to quickly put together a dish to send it out to the dining room. That doesn't mean it's made with much care or attention to detail, however. The main courses were heavily over-sauced, dripping all over. In addition, the brown sauce was fairly nondescript, with no real flavor and adding unnecessary calories. On a bright note, our teenager loved the orange chicken, breaded and fried. Fried rice was just rice and pork pieces, no veggies - also a hit with the teenager, although I found it to be dry and flavorless. Obviously not made to order. Overall, not a place to which I would return. Other than the decent/adequate wonton soup, there is not much more to recommend this Asian restaurant. read more

We are new in town and ordered from Amazing Garden based on Yelp reviews. I'm really not sure how it's at 4 stars because it was the worst Chinese I've ever had (and that's including a place where there were gnats in my broccoli). I ordered General Tso's tofu and every single piece of tofu and broccoli was covered in a gelatinous, lumpy "sauce" (or goo). I tried 2 bites and had to toss it. My husband ate most of his lo mein because he was so hungry but agreed it was the worst he's had. Adding insult to injury, the prices are higher than normal for your typical Chinese place. The egg roll was honestly---and I'm not being hyperbolic--the best egg roll I have ever had. I asked the owner about it, and they make the egg rolls by hand, and it is a two day process. The Lo Mein has mushrooms from a can and needed a bit more flavor, maybe some salt. The fried rice also lacked flavor and wasn't too sure if anything else was fresh after seeing the mushrooms. I recently went to lunch at Amazing Garden. It was not very busy, in fact we were the only sit down customers in the hour we were there, I only saw 2-3 take out orders in that time. It would seem that this is not a very popular place to eat, I think I know why, let me break it down for you: We called ahead to ask about the buffet's time, we were told 11-2, walking in at 11:15 the buffet was not set up, the waitress let us know that the buffet would be out in fifteen minutes (the math on that is 11:30), when we actually placed the order for the buffet the waitress walked to the kitchen door, opened it, and yelled "start the buffet". At 11:50 the buffet was ready. The food at the buffet was good, not great, the pork spare ribs were a standout, the crab rangoons were almost entirely cream cheese. In the meantime at our table my girlfriend (vegan) wanted to order off the menu, she picked the general tso's tofu, however she wanted to substitute rice noodles for the rice, the waitress informed us this was not possible, even for an upcharge, she would have to order a separate rice noodle entree for $9.25. Ultimately she settled upon the Szechuan spicy noodles (the menu described this as noodles in spicy Szechuan sauce), she asked to add tofu. The dish that came out had not only the tofu but also chicken, pork, and shrimp. Our server's first reaction was to claim the chicken was tofu, she quickly modified her position once it was pointed out that this is clearly chicken. The next reaction of our server was to offer to have the cook remove the meats from the dish, based on her tone and body language the inference was that our options were either that or pay for a new dish (we were not charged for a new dish). We asked that a new entrée be prepared, our waitress was very hesitant to accommodate and had to speak with her manager, ultimately she yieleded, a new dish was made and came out reasonably quickly. While the dish was being remade our server came back to the table and placed all the blame on my girlfriend, it was very off-putting. Overall my recommendation is this: if you want good (not great) chinese food, at an average price, where the service team acts as though you're a terrible nuisance and treats you like a completely unwelcome drain on their time, Amazing Garden is the place for you. read more
