When I came in, the place was empty, except for the man at the counter who was very welcoming and friendly. The decorations are minimal, giving the vibe of a very low key hole in the wall. I ordered a glass of jamaica and their pipian de pollo, based on recommendations from other reviews. The jamaica came out quickly, and it was lightly floral and not too sweet. Next came out a little basket of tortilla chips with some pico de gallo. The tortilla chips were hot and freshly fried, with a thick and satisfying crunch. The pico was good enough to add a bit of brightness and freshness to the chips. Finally the pepian de pollo came out, a large platter of chicken stew with a drumstick and a thigh, some potatoes, a mound of rice and a heap of mac and cheese. The stew had a nice deep, rich flavor that really evoked that feeling of comfort of food made with love. The chicken and potatoes soaked up the flavor beautifully, and scooping all that with some rice into a fresh, homemade tortilla made for a lovely experience. The mac and cheese was a bit bland, but everything else was wonderful. Overall, had a lovely time with great food and friendly service. If you're looking for a very low key mom and pop shop with food made with love, definitely recommend checking this place out!

The space itself feels modernized as well - it's bright and airy with seats around the bar area as well as tables throughout. The food here is fresh and beautifully presented and in terms of pricing, the menu feels more than reasonable. I came in right around opening on a Saturday and got a seat right away at the bar. it wasn't that busy so the place was very chill. I was greeted and helped by the friendliest people from the hostess to the bartender. I was reminiscing with the bartender because part of the reason I've been wanting to come here is that I actually volunteered for a charity event for years that the chef - Susan Feniger is a huge part of. I really wanted to try their jackfruit tinga tacos (which are 100% vegan for those who care). I'm personally not vegan, but I thought these were very delicious with elements that gave the dish texture and made the flavors pop. I also loved the house made pickles that came with the dish. Although it was early in the day, I had to order a michelada. And it is really delicious here! To end the meal, I also got the dessert empanada (a la mode). The cheese and guava went so well together and the vanilla ice cream just made it all that much better. I came here expecting to like this place, but left loving it. Such a great experience. Since it was earlier on a Saturday, there was plenty of metered street parking nearby.

It is quite small though, since it's located near the corner bottom floor of a business building. Food was very good. We had scallop ceviche and fish ceviche for starters. Seafood tasted fresh and clean and had great citrus flavors. Fish ceviche had a bit of a kick and spice to it, so it's not ideal for someone who has acid reflux. For entree, I had the grilled carne asada steak, and it was delicious. It was cooked just right and had great seasonings. My only callout was that it lacked salt. I also really liked that the side beans had pork in it, so it's not the typical regular beans. Service was very friendly and attentive and orders came out at a good pace. Keep in mind, this is more upscale Mexican cuisine so portions might be smaller and pricing will be higher. I will definitely come back next time I'm in the area.

The steak was flavorful and cooked just right, and the combination of the rice, fresh salad, and sweet plantains made for an incredible meal. Washed down with a bottled carbonated Brazilian beverage. So satisfying. The steak was bursting with flavor, the atmosphere was über authentic, and service from the endearing owner, Fatima, made the experience literally chef's besos! You can tell there's a lot of pride and care that goes into this well-heeled operation. If you're looking for delicious Brazilian food and a great dining experience, I highly recommend Cafe Brasil. But once the food arrived at our table, everything changed. Almost everything we tried was extremely salty. The empada ($4.50) was honestly one of the worst I've ever had. The coxinha and risole tasted like they had been fried in old oil and were so overcooked and burnt that they were barely edible. As a Brazilian, this was especially disappointing. When you go to a Brazilian café, you hope to enjoy some of the flavors and foods you grew up with, but unfortunately, this was nowhere close to what we expected. Our bill was around $50 for: 1 pastel, 1 coxinha, 1 risole, 4 pão de queijo, 1 orange juice, and 2 guaranás. Then came another surprise: we ordered a passion fruit dessert for $4.50, and the portion was less than half of a small cup. On top of that, you could barely taste any passion fruit. I normally understand that restaurants can have an off day, but there were simply too many problems with the food to overlook. For around $50, the quality and portions were extremely disappointing. Based on our experience today, I unfortunately cannot recommend this place. Save your time and money and look elsewhere if you're hoping for good Brazilian food.
