    Carnitas plate

Mercy Lord! We came her to celebrate my father in laws birthday, Venice is his hometown and this restaurant has been a staple to the community. It's been around since the 1960's It was my first time and I wondered what was good? My husband said he used to come as a kid and he remembered they had homemade flour tortillas! I went for the carnitas plate and it was everything I wanted and more. Tender and savory with the right amount of salt. You get a flour tortilla and make yourself a taco with beans, carnitas some guacamole and pico de gallo. STOP!!!! Chefs kiss. I want to go back just thinking about it. My husband got the quesadilla with chorizo and papas and he really enjoyed that served with beans de la olla. I need to go back. Services was good. Ambiance was quaint and comfortable. Low light cabana type. I didn't go look at the patio. Parking is horrible, most people park in the Ralph's parking lot and just cross the street.

La Cabana is a solid neighborhood staple, classic Mexican food! There are so many options for Mexican in the area, but with that La Cabana is one that I always find myself coming back to. I am a sucker for their enchiladas, fajitas, and the margaritas. It can get a bit pricey, so expect west side prices.

The chips are warm and the salsa is suitable for everyone--not too spicy.

I've been to La Cabaña time and again over the years and always enjoy eating at this venerable local establishment. The food is good, the servings are big, the prices are fair and the service is great. I like El Verde, a huge burrito stuffed with chicken, pork or beef, and smothered with a tasty green chili sauce and served on a bed of rice and refried beans. I also like the guacamole, which is fresh and can be ordered mild or spicy. I wash it all down with a spicy michelada made with Modelo beer. The vibe is casual and relaxed and my favorite spot is the outdoor patio. If you're in the area, I recommend this spot.

Great authentic Mexican food, delicious margaritas, & an awesome patio vibe - what more could you want? Food - delicious authentic Mexican with extensive menu options for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Classic margaritas are made perfectly & so easy to end up ordering quite a few of them! Loved my garlic butter shrimp entree - it was delicious. Service - such kind, fun servers here - definitely a family restaurant vibe! Food came out quickly & we were seated right away, despite it being Cinco de Mayo. Ambiance - both indoor & outdoor seating, with a fabulous patio decorated with bright colors & art! Such a fun atmosphere, even during the more low key hours. We weren't there for it but I also know that they have Mariachi playing from the roof regularly. La Cabana is a great local option for authentic Mexican in the Venice area & will absolutely be going back for the food & the margaritas!

This place usually is very nice. The outdoor patio is where to be weather permitting. Came here yesterday and ordered some al a carte enchiladas because I wasn't that hungry. I got the full plate instead that was $23, when it should've just been $14. This is probably because another person that came with us ordered 2 enchiladas with "rice and beans" so I'm guessing they assumed I wanted the same. I didn't eat the refried beans or rice so more or less a waste of money. $7 for rice and refried beans is overpriced anyway. The food was ok, but could've used more flavor.

Even with the crowds, service has consistently been fast, efficient, and attentive. The food is very good, and the energy is always lively. My most recent visit was no different. Everything ran smoothly, the tacos were great, and our servers stayed on top of things throughout the meal. The only odd part of the evening happened as we were getting ready to leave. I stopped by the bar and asked the bartender for a cup of ice. He acknowledged me but never came back with it. While I was waiting, another guest next to me mentioned he was also having trouble getting service at the bar, while other customers appeared to be getting helped. I don't know the circumstances and don't want to make assumptions about why that happened, but it definitely felt strange. After waiting several minutes, I went back to my original server and she had the ice for me in about a minute, which reinforced my overall impression that the service team is generally very attentive. I don't like pretentious bartenders and I know their job is busy as heck. That again felt weird. Despite that one awkward interaction, the overall experience was excellent. Or it's lunch, and you and your broke high school friends have each scraped together $5 change for a burrito. These types of restaurants always exist better in our memories, they make us sentimental, they remind us of a simpler time when all that mattered was who had the latest video game, or who's house you could chill at, or wether you had a bike or skateboard to get around town. A few years later topics shifted to booze or weed, and eventually: chicks. All throughout, some things never change, and that's a preferred taco spot, which you cling to the way you would a favorite sports team, a religion or treasured family heirloom. There's another taco spot across town that may be better, but you would never admit that to anyone, not even yourself. As we age, these types of affiliations become a thing of the past.
