I was here a very long time ago since a friend who is from Los Angeles loves this place, and assured us out-of-towners that this was some of the best Mexican food in town. Well, I haven't returned since then, but I remember it being rather busy with what seemed to be a lot of regulars. Checking out the menu now, of course everything costs more than what it did, but the portion sizes were fairly decent, unless they've changed since. I've been in town so long that I've found other favorites that I tend to stick with. Was in the area and decided to try them out again. Sunday around 1:45p, there were booths full but it wasn't quite busy, yet they seemed under/short staffed. It took me a while to get someone to help since no host/hostess was at the counter, and staff just walked by delivering food so I figured the bar had to have someone. A lady came in after me, saying her party was sitting on the patio area, yet no one came out after about five minutes. Finally placed order, and the à la carte grilled chicken soft taco ($9) has 'open food' +$1 after it on my receipt. I inquired and was told this (the grilled chicken) was extra. Well this needs to be on the menu to let customers know (I KNOW it's only $1 but it should be stated on the menu, not as a 'surprise' on the receipt). Food didn't take too long to be ready, and I checked before leaving out of habit. The good: chips, and the side of rice. Not a large portion for $4, but it was good. Chips however were generous, as were the two salsas accompanying them. Ground beef crispy taco ($7) was good, but that soft grilled chicken taco was a disappointment regardless of how much it was. On the menu, it said it has guacamole, cilantro, and onions. None of the above was on mine, just lettuce and melted cheese-a lot of it-where I didn't even finish this. Due to this and the upcharge, I probably should have just gone with the crispy potato taco instead. It certainly wasn't the worst Mexican food I've had (Cactus still has that title) but it certainly wasn't the best and due to everything, I'm not sure if I would be in a rush to return. I'm writing this review on behalf of my parents. They are Latino and recently came in for dinner. There was no host present, so they walked in and seated themselves on the patio. They waited for service for quite some time. During this wait, the table next to them (a large party of about eight) was receiving attentive service, while staff repeatedly walked past my parents without acknowledging them. This made them feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. After waiting long enough, my parents asked if they would be receiving service and were then told the patio area was closed. No one had previously informed them or redirected them to open seating, which was frustrating and could have been easily avoided. While I don't condone arguments, my father was understandably upset by how the situation was handled. My parents asked to speak with a manager or owner but were not given any assistance or contact information. Feeling dismissed and potentially discriminated against--especially in a Mexican restaurant--was extremely disappointing. We hope someone from management sees this and can provide an appropriate contact number so my parents can share their experience directly. read more

I dined at Don Antonio's last night with some pals. I had a Chile Relleno and Soft Taco (Carne Asada) combination plate. The food was good overall. The portions were good for all items. I thought the taco could have benefited from a spritz of lemon and I thought the carne asada was a bit dry. The staff were friendly and helpful. read more

Came for lunch on 2/13/26 and everything was great as usual. Service was great, friendly staff, delicious food. We always order the Don Antonio's house special which comes with chile relleno, hard shell taco and enchilada, rice and beans. My daughter liked the asada quesadilla. We showed up as a large group and were quickly seated, the staff were very friendly and our server was AMAZING! Super friendly. We got to sit outside and it was a great with the heaters on. I didn't get to venture inside but I enjoyed the vibe here. I been coming to Don Antonio's for years and honestly, their food has remained consistent for over 2 decades. Their food is very delicious! Their tacos, tamale, burritos and their sizzling fajitas are some of my favorites to order. I do wish they would add rice in their burritos but I totally understand if they don't want to make it a permanent ingredient in their burrito dishes. I love their margaritas and their micheladas. They do tend to make them strong so be able to have a DD with you in case you're ordering more than one. The service is great. They're friendly and very good at explaining and suggesting dishes off the menu. I love the old dimly lit Spanish restaurant setting. Cherry wood furniture with Spanish accent walls and lighting. It truly makes you feel like you're dining somewhere in Mexico. I am a regular and will be coming back here soon. read more

My go-to Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood! Everytime I come here the food is excellent and satisfies all of my cravings. With a wide variety on the menu, this place is for everyone. I always get the combination plate with a cheese enchilada and a hard shell beef taco (comes with rice and beans). The cheese quesadilla is also to die for! This place can get busy so expect a wait if you are a bigger party or coming at a peak time. During my last experience here, the hostess sat other parties before us and left us outside in the cold which was disappointing. Our server was not welcoming at all and took our menus before we were even done ordering, seemed like he could care less about our table. There is a very small parking lot in the back but I usually street park on Pico. Free chips and salsa when you dine in! Menu, pricing, and freshness is all perfect, service could be improved. If you're looking for good Mexican food, this is the place to go on the west side. I have been coming here for years and I am never disappointed. The tacos are delicious, but the enchiladas are always fabulous. The queso fundido is the best ever and the beans are as good as mine and that is saying a lot! Parking is not so great but the service is excellent. They have a great lunch special Monday through Friday you can't beat it. If you haven't been here, do yourself a favor and try it out. Went here sometime ago and I really like their food. It gets crowded here and I would say the only downside is their parking. They don't have valet and if you want to park close, you need to be lucky to find a space on Pico Blvd. in the evening. Anyways, the food... chips and salsa (mild) was yummy. Guacamole was delicious and fresh. I ordered a bean and cheese burrito and it was big so I couldn't finish it. The cheese they use in the burrito I think was that finely shredded cheddar. First of all, I have to give this place a high rating just on service alone. It was one of the best customer service experiences I've had in a long time. They anticipated our needs before we knew we had them. Bravo. Now, the food: Usually the chicken in dishes is so dry that I rarely get it. One I our party got a chicken enchilada and I had no idea a restaurant could nail good chicken anymore. So tasty. The verde sauce was delicious. We were told this was the place to get chile rellenos. For us, it was okay but the person in our group said it wasn't quite up to the usual level but I would try it again. Everything else was delicious that we tried. Interior atmosphere is surprisingly large and inviting with a nice outdoor patio. We were seated right away with no reservations. Chips and salsa came complimentary which is not always the case anymore. They had a non-spicy version of the salsa which is a nice option for kids. I got the diabla fish which I wasn't a fan of. The sauce was more like a ketchup but the fish portion was large which was nice. Hoping to try with a garlic option next time because there might be potential there. read more

Beware of this place and next door Mexican restauranta. Both of these places have been closed for health code violations bugs infestation in the past. I went back after they were closed and there was no changes made to be better. Your better off going to Taco Bell or Del Taco or Better yet Jack In The Box. This is my first time at this restaurant. I love the old Mexican ambience. We had our food on the patio it was about 18 of us. Service was a little slow but the servers were very pleasant. I ordered The Carnitas and it was just really horrible, beans rice were good. The only reason I'm giving this Restuarant a three rating is the Cadillac margaritas were excellent. I had the chicken quesadilla for an appetiser and it was excellent. The tortilla was very good. The rest of my Party ordered the fajitas and they were very very good chicken and steak fajitas. Overall, it was a good experience. I will come back to this restaurant but they definitely need to take the Carnitas off the menu. read more

After a long day of apartment hunting, I decided to stop by Don Antonio's, and it did not disappoint! I went for the Don Antonio Special, which is perfect if you're not sure what to get--comes with a little bit of everything. The crispy chicken taco was bomb, and the chile relleno was cooked to perfection. The tortillas were on the thinner side, which I actually loved--gotta cut the carbs somewhere! The dish was delicious, with a cheese enchilada included, and the presentation was authentic and well done. This was my second time here, and the vibe, whether sitting inside or outside, is just perfect. I mentioned to my parents that I would bring them here next time. On 12/30/2025, a group of eight (8) individuals dined at Don Antonio at approximately 6:00 PM for dinner. Within a few hours after the meal, several members of the group began experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms. At around 2:00 AM, 4:00 AM three (3) individuals developed severe abdominal pain accompanied by repeated vomiting and diarrhea. The remaining members of the group experienced persistent stomachache and unusual watery or loose stools. Symptoms appeared to be acute in onset and occurred within hours of the shared meal. All affected individuals had eaten food from the same establishment during the same time period. No other common exposures were identified prior to symptom onset. read more

The restaurant is like sitting in a cave. They make great margaritas and you can see and smell the trail of smoke when someone orders the fajita plate. Went in today for a quick burger with a buddy after the gym. What I thought would be a quick bite turned into a 40 minute wait for a simple cheeseburger. Worst part is the place was empty. A couple was sitting a few tables over. No one else. What almost got me to leave before I even ordered was the fact that AFTER my buddy and I, a "high-class" woman walked in and she immediately got the servers attention. Meanwhile my friend and I waited. My friend had to literally go get some other server who was just walking back in forth in the kitchen. I once heard a statistic that most people go to the same 10 restaurants 95% of the time they go out to eat. If this is true Don Antonio's is one of those places for me. This place is not a taqueria or one of those elevated Mexican restaurants with $30 burritos. It's more comparable to homestyle Mexican food with an allegiance to making food like my grandma makes it...or WOULD make it. I'm Mexican, but honestly my grandma never really crushed it in the kitchen in that way, so maybe it just scratched that itch. I'll also say this. It's difficult to find good Mexican food on this side of the city that's not from a taco truck, so it's nice that this place exists. I have been here dozens of times and have yet to have a bad experience. Please do yourself a favor don't go into this place. I went here with my family for my mom's bday dinner food tastes old and not fresh. After 6 hours of eating at this place we end up having diarrhea, stomachache, 2 of my family members were throwing up and i had fever and severe stomach pain.
