I'm writing this review on behalf of my parents. They are Latino and recently came in for dinner. There was no host present, so they walked in and seated themselves on the patio. They waited for service for quite some time. During this wait, the table next to them (a large party of about eight) was receiving attentive service, while staff repeatedly walked past my parents without acknowledging them. This made them feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. After waiting long enough, my parents asked if they would be receiving service and were then told the patio area was closed. No one had previously informed them or redirected them to open seating, which was frustrating and could have been easily avoided. While I don't condone arguments, my father was understandably upset by how the situation was handled. My parents asked to speak with a manager or owner but were not given any assistance or contact information. Feeling dismissed and potentially discriminated against--especially in a Mexican restaurant--was extremely disappointing. We hope someone from management sees this and can provide an appropriate contact number so my parents can share their experience directly. read more

My go-to Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood! Everytime I come here the food is excellent and satisfies all of my cravings. With a wide variety on the menu, this place is for everyone. I always get the combination plate with a cheese enchilada and a hard shell beef taco (comes with rice and beans). The cheese quesadilla is also to die for! This place can get busy so expect a wait if you are a bigger party or coming at a peak time. During my last experience here, the hostess sat other parties before us and left us outside in the cold which was disappointing. Our server was not welcoming at all and took our menus before we were even done ordering, seemed like he could care less about our table. There is a very small parking lot in the back but I usually street park on Pico. Free chips and salsa when you dine in! Menu, pricing, and freshness is all perfect, service could be improved. Came for lunch on 2/13/26 and everything was great as usual. Service was great, friendly staff, delicious food. We always order the Don Antonio's house special which comes with chile relleno, hard shell taco and enchilada, rice and beans. My daughter liked the asada quesadilla. We showed up as a large group and were quickly seated, the staff were very friendly and our server was AMAZING! Super friendly. We got to sit outside and it was a great with the heaters on. I didn't get to venture inside but I enjoyed the vibe here. I been coming to Don Antonio's for years and honestly, their food has remained consistent for over 2 decades. Their food is very delicious! Their tacos, tamale, burritos and their sizzling fajitas are some of my favorites to order. I do wish they would add rice in their burritos but I totally understand if they don't want to make it a permanent ingredient in their burrito dishes. I love their margaritas and their micheladas. They do tend to make them strong so be able to have a DD with you in case you're ordering more than one. The service is great. They're friendly and very good at explaining and suggesting dishes off the menu. I love the old dimly lit Spanish restaurant setting. Cherry wood furniture with Spanish accent walls and lighting. It truly makes you feel like you're dining somewhere in Mexico. I am a regular and will be coming back here soon. read more

Went here sometime ago and I really like their food. It gets crowded here and I would say the only downside is their parking. They don't have valet and if you want to park close, you need to be lucky to find a space on Pico Blvd. in the evening. Anyways, the food... chips and salsa (mild) was yummy. One I our party got a chicken enchilada and I had no idea a restaurant could nail good chicken anymore. So tasty. The verde sauce was delicious. We were told this was the place to get chile rellenos. Interior atmosphere is surprisingly large and inviting with a nice outdoor patio. We were seated right away with no reservations. Chips and salsa came complimentary which is not always the case anymore. They had a non-spicy version of the salsa which is a nice option for kids. I got the diabla fish which I wasn't a fan of. On 12/30/2025, a group of eight (8) individuals dined at Don Antonio at approximately 6:00 PM for dinner. Within a few hours after the meal, several members of the group began experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms. At around 2:00 AM, 4:00 AM three (3) individuals developed severe abdominal pain accompanied by repeated vomiting and diarrhea. The remaining members of the group experienced persistent stomachache and unusual watery or loose stools. Symptoms appeared to be acute in onset and occurred within hours of the shared meal. All affected individuals had eaten food from the same establishment during the same time period. No other common exposures were identified prior to symptom onset. read more

This is my first time at this restaurant. I love the old Mexican ambience. We had our food on the patio it was about 18 of us. Service was a little slow but the servers were very pleasant. I ordered The Carnitas and it was just really horrible, beans rice were good. The only reason I'm giving this Restuarant a three rating is the Cadillac margaritas were excellent. I had the chicken quesadilla for an appetiser and it was excellent. The tortilla was very good. The rest of my Party ordered the fajitas and they were very very good chicken and steak fajitas. After a long day of apartment hunting, I decided to stop by Don Antonio's, and it did not disappoint! I went for the Don Antonio Special, which is perfect if you're not sure what to get--comes with a little bit of everything. The crispy chicken taco was bomb, and the chile relleno was cooked to perfection. The tortillas were on the thinner side, which I actually loved--gotta cut the carbs somewhere! The dish was delicious, with a cheese enchilada included, and the presentation was authentic and well done. I used to frequent this spot when I was in college. If you're craving fried tacos and fajitas come to Don Antonio's. I got the 2 taco combo plate with rice and beans. The restaurant is like sitting in a cave. They make great margaritas and you can see and smell the trail of smoke when someone orders the fajita plate. Went in today for a quick burger with a buddy after the gym. What I thought would be a quick bite turned into a 40 minute wait for a simple cheeseburger. Worst part is the place was empty. A couple was sitting a few tables over. No one else. What almost got me to leave before I even ordered was the fact that AFTER my buddy and I, a "high-class" woman walked in and she immediately got the servers attention. Meanwhile my friend and I waited. My friend had to literally go get some other server who was just walking back in forth in the kitchen. When the food finally got there, they got my friend's order wrong. They took it back and came back with it wrong AGAIN. We were so hungry at this point that my friend just ate it. The tacos are delicious, but the enchiladas are always fabulous. The queso fundido is the best ever and the beans are as good as mine and that is saying a lot! I once heard a statistic that most people go to the same 10 restaurants 95% of the time they go out to eat. If this is true Don Antonio's is one of those places for me. This place is not a taqueria or one of those elevated Mexican restaurants with $30 burritos. It's more comparable to homestyle Mexican food with an allegiance to making food like my grandma makes it...or WOULD make it. I'm Mexican, but honestly my grandma never really crushed it in the kitchen in that way, so maybe it just scratched that itch. I'll also say this. It's difficult to find good Mexican food on this side of the city that's not from a taco truck, so it's nice that this place exists. I have been here dozens of times and have yet to have a bad experience. I've lived in this neighborhood my entire life and have been to Don Antonio's and the Talpa Room (next door) dozens of times over the decades. Neither place is exceptional--both serve fairly average Mexican food--but Don Antonio's is an icon. Between the cave-style rooms and the nostalgia, it's always packed. I mostly go out of convenience since it's close to home. If you eat here, the safest bet is one of the combination plates. Tacos, enchiladas, burritos--those are generally consistent and reliable. The specials, however, are very hit or miss. In the past, even the "misses" were at least edible. I've had decent asada and carnitas before, though other times they were dry. Tonight was different. This was a deal breaker. I ordered the Spencer steak, and it was hands down the worst piece of meat I've ever been served anywhere. At first, I thought the knife was dull because I couldn't cut through it. After one bite, it was obvious the knife wasn't the problem--the steak was completely unchewable. I ordered it medium, but it came out extremely rare, which I'm sure contributed to how tough it was. After two or three bites, I gave up. I closed my tab and told the bartender the steak was not edible. They comped my margarita, but I was still charged the full price for the steak. Adiós, Don Antonio's. read more

My first and last time at this dump was on April 26, 2025. I love Mexican food and have never had Mexican food that I do not like until I tried Don Antonio's. This has to be the worst Mexican food I've ever had, absolutely horrible. I ordered the beef enchiladas combination and a beef taco. Both were horrible, I took two bites of each and thought wtf! My friend and I also ordered the Queso Fundido. Let me tell you, there was nothing fun about that sh$t. I was expecting creamy Queso that I could eat with chips. Not this sh$t. I had to cut the cheese with a knife. I was DONE! My friend had her food packed up to go. I wasn't taking that sh$t home. Even the chips and salsa were not good. Jeeze! When the server came to pack my friend's food, it was clear that I had only taken a couple of bites of the enchilada and taco. He showed no concern and did not offer to take it off of the bill. The inside is tacky with seat cushions that need to be replaced. The entire experience was horrible. I will never go back. This place has the best guacamole and the most delicious sizzling fajitas! They also make a great cerviche.I love the decor. The lighting is romantic and it has that fun old school Mexican restaurant decor vibe. There is a gorgeous aquarium at the entrance. The walls have Mayan-esque details, tiles, peacock art on the walls and stained glass windows. The big leather booths are super comfortable. They make fantastic spicy margaritas. I've driven by this restaurant so many times and have heard from a few people to check it out. I decided to have lunch here on my day off and had an overall really great experience. Multiple people checked in me throughout my meal to ask if I wanted more chips and salsa or drink refills. I really liked the decor inside too.
