My boyfriend found this cute spot while searching for a place for us to go for breakfast. It looked good but of course I had to check yelp first to make sure they had parking and they do! They have a cute outdoor area for dining outside or you can eat inside. I ordered a chorizo burrito which comes with chorizo, eggs, rice, and beans. I'm not a fan of beans so I asked for no beans and added potatoes instead. I also ordered an orange juice which is freshly squeezed and so delicious. They also have different aguas as well which I'll have to try next time! When my burrito came out it came with two sides of salsa which we think was homemade and it was so good! Honestly two sides of it wasn't enough haha. The burrito was good without it but the salsa just elevated it! The staff were very friendly and their service was great. We came a little after breakfast ended but they still let us order from their breakfast menu. It feels like a cute little mom and pop restaurant and I love it. More people need to support these kinds of places so they don't get bought out by big over hyped places. We will definitely be coming back again. read more

This place is a bit hidden away but worth it. It has parking! I ordered the bacon egg and cheese burrito and orange juice and its the best ive had in a while. Fresh scrambled eggs, butter, cheddar jack cheese and chopped up bacon. Service was great and polite. We technically had arrived after breakfast had ended but they offered us anyway. The salsa they gave us was so good im definitely asking for extra next time. It wasnt busy when we went on a saturday morning. Its very homey and welcoming. You dont feel rushed to order and leave. Its quiet, lots of natural light and fun decor. I really miss these kind of places. Coffee was solid, comes black and you can add sugar/cream on the side. No weird taste, just a good hot coffee. Huevos chorizo - Good amount of food for breakfast, I probably finished half of it. Comes with option of tortilla or toast on the side. Not overly salty which I can appreciate. Plantains - softer that I would've liked but fine. I do love a good plantain. Location is cute with themed decor and plenty of sunlight that gets into the covered part of the cafe. You can also choose to eat outside in the courtyard, and there are a couple tables right next to the street too. It's been here for over 20yrs and I just love that it's family run and food is for sure made with love like someone's mom cooked for you. I never knew there was a difference between Mexican and Spanish Chorizo?! Much like I recently learned that "Mexican" is not a language. Sigh... I also didn't know that even though their sign says Mexican and American food, Rubio's also specializes in Latin cuisine. My my, the things I learned on this trip to "West America" were humbling. I decided to try Rubio Café after a friend sent me a text saying he always eats at RC when he is in town. My friend recommended the chorizo burrito which sounded amazing to me! What I didn't know was that I have been loving SPANISH CHORIZO all my life... not Mexican chorizo. *Sniffle* I ordered the following: #3: Chorizo Burrito. (2.5 stars). When my chorizo burrito arrived, I was taken aback by the shear size and weight!? Holy chorizos, who can eat this whole thing?? I took a bite of my burrito sans the salsa, just to taste the burrito and filling on its own. The chorizo was mild and sparse while the eggs, beans, and rice were generously portioned. In all honesty, the burrito, while extremely filling, was bland. I had hoped that the chorizo would give the burrito an overall seasoned bite, but all I got was a bite of bland ground meat, beans, eggs, and rice. I tried the salsa, which had a slightly thicker consistency, but it too was quite bland. So, I had to resort to the final sauce left... Tapatio. The Tapatio sauce helped me enough to get through 1/4 of the burrito. Unfortunately for me, after that 1/4 was gone, no amount of hot sauce could get me to continue eating my burrito. I didn't want to keep dousing my burrito with Tapatio. Nor did I want to continue to eat a one-note dish. --- I'm sure my expectations of chorizo definitely played a part in my unhappy burrito experience. If you're looking for a wicked cheap place to get filled up, RC is your place. The staff here is extremely friendly and patient. Excellent customer service. RC is located on the right hand side on a one way street (S. Robertson Blvd). There is a private parking lot located adjacent to RC which is FREE while dining at RC. RC serves hot entrées for lunch. Call for the specials of the day! The hot entrées are served from a warmer, buffet style, so I wouldn't be back to try their lunch menu but I do wish RC well. read more

Decided to give it try, came in order fried plantains but they told me it was passed breakfast time but they would be more then happy to make a exception! We've been coming here for years - can't believe it's taken this long to write a review. But Rubios is seriously the best - the breakfast here is our JAM. You can't go wrong with anything on their menu, but some of my favorites are the Rubios breakfast burrito (so filling), breakfast plate (eggs, plantains, and beans), and breakfast sandwich (with yummy bacon). I'm usually in the mood to have my eggs cooked a different way every time I come here, and they are a champion in terms of getting my order right each time. Love the family - seriously, you can taste the love in their food. It's what keeps us coming back. Also, huge shout out on their lunch and dessert offerings. We don't come for lunch that often (usually because we're here for brunch and fill up on breakfast food), but their chicken and carne asade dishes are crazy good. And when I'm really feeling like I need to indulge, I get a slice of their chocolate cake or fruit tarte to go. Makes my entire weekend. The restaurant itself is tucked away out of sight by Venice and has ample parking. They have a patio with plenty of clean shaded tables. My first review of 2013 goes to Rubio's Cafe! While out running errands this weekend, the BF and I wanted to grab a quick brunch somewhere new... so turning to Yelp, we stumbled upon this hidden gem. I wasn't sure what to think from the reviews since at the time, Rubio's had 4.5 stars but only 22 reviews. One look at the photos and we were on our way. I'm so glad we decided to give this place a try because the food was delicious! We had the Rubio breakfast burrito and white fish plate which came with 2 sides. We sat in their outdoor patio which is pet friendly (always a plus). Completely satisfied, I wanted to come back on Sunday but found out they were closed. Can't wait to make my return and try more items off their menu! Plus, I can't rave enough of their service... so friendly and not in an "I'm only being nice to you so you can give me a tip" kind of way... genuinely nice and kind which is a rarity these days. read more

My boyfriend got a burrito which was the size of the Chipotle burritos. It looks like a log. The beans and rice that came with my dish were okay, well more like the beans rather. It didn't taste like refried beans and kinda looked like baked beans. The chips and salsa were good. The outdoor seating is cute. It has a fountain and is fenced in. So excited that this place is officially open for dinner on weekends! Came here for the first time on Valentine's Day. They had a cute set up with candles and roses on each table and had soft, romantic music playing in the background. The food was amazing, and needless to say we couldn't wait to come back! Went again last night for a last minute dinner and everything was equally as delicious. I had their tropical salmon plate while my fiancé tried their carne asada dish. The carne asada was juicy and tender, and my salmon was full of flavor and cooked to perfection. Definitely our new go-to dinner spot! This place is a family-run establishment, and they're entirely dedicated to making sure that they're giving the best food and service possible.
