They're not here when we were done. They didn't even bring the check. Haven't been here in a while, the place is newly remodeled and it looks great. The food has the exact flavors I remember, very delicious. I stopped by El Salsabor on a Friday night for dinner. It's a small restaurant, in a strip mall, on the east side of LA. I ordered the chicken and steak combo plate, which also came with rice, beans, and salad. I really liked the chicken and steak. They were both very flavorful. The rice and beans paired well with the meat. The rice had veggies in it that I really enjoyed. Even though the food was good, I don't think the portion size justified the $16 price point. The waitress was very friendly. She checked in multiple times to make sure I had everything I needed. But I was disappointed with both how long it took to get my food once I ordered as well as the environment. It took roughly 25 minutes for me to get my food and the restaurant only had a few people inside. There was a DJ playing music inside the restaurant, so it was extremely loud - loud enough that I asked to be seated outside. After sitting outside for 10 minutes or so, they turned on an outdoor speaker which was way too loud for my liking. Would I return for the food? Yes. I am hella picky with pupusas cuz no one makes them like mom but this place has the most delicious biggest pupusas! I love the ones out of rice flour. The beans they use are just right. There was one one waitress but she was very nice and really good at covering people in the eating area, picking up orders, and taking phone orders. The food was delicious. I'm so happy that nothings changed and the pupusas are just as scrumptious, if not more, than I remember. I am Salvadoran, I've had my fair share of pupusas and have a few favorite places. While I would quite consider myself an expert, I would consider myself a well versed aficionado of this Central American wonder food. What do I love so much about the pupusas here? Masa is the perfect texture, thickness, and density. It's not heavy, it doesn't crack, and it holds the fillings well without competing with them. Fillings, I'm a revuelta & cheese/loroco or just cheese type of woman and here the beans & chorizo are seasoned well, cheese is generous, super melty (if it's not a word it should be) and the correct type of cheese. Curtido is by far one of my favorites. The pupusas are delicious on the spot but hold up surprisingly well on their two hour trip up to SB. False Advertisement!! They say they have a promo on Mondays and Tuesdays for revueltas $1.50 (by the way they said is now $1.60) yet they charged me regular price of $2.99 each.
