The food was delicious overall, but the service could be improved. I placed my order, but it took the server quite a while to return to the table and take my guest's order. I also noticed that chips, salsa, or any complimentary appetizer were not served while we waited for our food. The bar area looked great, and I will definitely try it next time. read more

Once my best friend and I came in we didn't get anyone greeting us, maybe they were too busy. I had to flag someone down and eventually got told to choose where to sit down. We got our menus and we were looking through it and order an agua de Jamaica and Ensalada. Then we ordered 4 pupusas, tres revueltas and one the loroco con queso. I enjoyed the pupusas and how huge they were. The price was okay. The service continued to be a bit dismissive. Not as attentive as you would think when you go to a restaurant. The vibe of the restaurant is pretty cool and I like the paintings and how colorful it is inside. They also have a bar at the back of the restaurant. Overall it was an okay experience. I really wanted to come back and try other foods, since the pupusas were so yummy, but with the service I think I am okay for now. read more

Came for the comedy show and enjoy some great food. We had pupusas and an order of yuca frita. It was my husband's first time trying yuca frita and he's now a fan. It was a much needed date night and we definitely enjoyed the food, drinks and comedy show hosted by Pupusas & Punchlines. Will definitely be back & will be bringing friends! read more

Came in on valentine's and it wasn't too packed at first, but it filled up pretty quickly as it got closer to 2pm. I like that they have a small parking area behind the restaurant so you don't have to find street parking. We ordered the carne guisada, some pupusas with beans and the squash/cheese which comes with the classic sauce and cabbage slaw. Everything was great but my least favorite was probably the empanadas with custard filling. read more

I visited Jaragua for Pupusas and Punchlines and I really want to go back to try the rest of the menu. The pupusas were delicious! I'm also a curtido snob and they nailed it! Ambience was quiet in the main part of the restaurant. I ordered my food and drinks at the bar and that was a very busy area. One thing that was surprising was they didn't have free water. We had to buy bottled water. As for the actual comedy event, it was nice! Comedians varied but I enjoyed it! read more

I came here for Pupusas and Punchlines, a comedy show. When you arrive, they take your name down and once the room is available they call you in by the order they take your name down, so come early for a better seat. If you show up early, you can get a drink at the bar. I suggest you don't order your food til you're seated in the comedy room. I noticed some people ordered too soon, and so they didn't get to enjoy the show along with their food because their food came first. The food was good. The $12 Paloma was good and strong enough. I'm only upset because they didn't serve tap water, so we were forced to purchase water bottles, very annoying. Other than that, the comedy show was funny, and the combination of food with comedy can't be beat! Parking wasn't hard to find. It was less than a 5 minute walk on a Friday evening. read more

My friends and I came here on a Monday night to celebrate one of their birthday. We chose this place specifically because he's Salvadorian and this place is known for the pupusas. They went with the Revuelta Con Todo, Chicharron which is pork and Ayote Y Question which is Italian Squash with cheese for their pupusas. I went with the Mar Y Tierra which is Ribeye steak and shrimp, it also come with rice .. beans .. pico de gallo. I didn't want the bean so I asked for extra pico de gallo instead, our waiter said they can only do salad or extra rice. I got the salad and ordered a coke which is the one in the glass bottle. My friends got the horchata and kola champagne which is the El Salvador favorite soda. Our food took a while to come out but it's because they hand make the pupusas so it takes time. My ribeye and shrimp was delicious even though the ribeye was more flat. I really like the pico de gallo and was bummed they wouldn't do extra since I think it's cheaper than the salad. The pupusas were not and my friends ordered like 3 orders of each for themselves. They really like the pupusas especially with the sides and sauce it comes with. The customer service here was amazing and the inside of the restaurant is very authentic. The bar was closed so maybe it's not popular on a Monday. They have private lot in the back for parking or you can look for street parking. We had a great time here and would love to come back if we're in the area again. read more

Jaragua - Salvadoran Near Me - Los Angeles, California

Jaragua on Beverly Blvd is where you go when you want Salvadoran food that doesn't just fill you up--it smacks you across the face and says, "This is how it's done." The yuca con chicharrones? Absolute fire. Crispy, salty, fatty pork bites of glory laid over starchy yuca that somehow makes you forget potatoes even exist. It's not a side dish--it's a mic drop. Prices? Yeah, they're a little higher than your run-of-the-mill spots born in K-town, but here's the thing: it's worth it. You're not just paying for food--you're paying for authenticity, for flavor that tastes like it came straight out of someone's abuelita's kitchen. This isn't cheap eats--it's cheat-day eats. The vibe inside? Homey, warm, and welcoming. Service is fast, friendly, and you actually feel looked after, which in LA is rarer than street parking after 7 p.m. It's Salvadoran food so good it makes Taco Tuesday look like amateur hour. Batavia is a savage-level gem. The yuca con chicharrones is legendary, the vibe is welcoming, and while the prices are a notch higher than K-town's casual joints, every bite proves it's worth it. Come hungry, leave converted. read more

Jaragua - Exterior - Salvadoran Near Me - Los Angeles, California

Saturday 9/26 three friends and I went to a Pupusas & Punchlines show at Jaragua in Hollywood. We are all queer, two autistic and a non binary person. We thought it'd be a fun thing to do. We had this planned out tfor a few weeks and were very excited to be there. We arrived and the bar was warm and friendly and explained everything we needed to know to order and how to do so when seated. We got our drinks, got seated and waited for the show to start. The line up was Zako Ryan, Rob Darocha, Nishy Acsell, Justin Alexio and Blackksymth Rog. The first comic up was Zako Ryan. He opened up the show with QUITE a bit of misogyny including an opening joke about eating out women after being out at the club and it being tangy or what not. A man commenting on the way a woman's private parts taste wasn't the best way for us to start off the night. The men getting fingered jokes were in such poor taste as well. Up next was Rob Darocha who was actually great and really funny. He made us laugh without a single punch down as a punchline or making an autism joke. Nishy Acsell was also funny and we appreciated seeing a woman in the line up. Justin Alexio (I understand is the host) worked the crowd and we also enjoyed him at the time. Then Blackksmyth Rog came on and was immediately offensive. Transphobia and homophobia aren't necessary in order to make people laugh. Yet here he was leaning on those kinds of jokes. Saying Gen Z girls have d!*ks and "I'm not gay I'm not gay" when talking about genitalia or a purple shirt. It was too much and my partner left, then another one of us left. Eventually we all left before the last comic even finished. There were also a few autism jokes (even by the host) during the night we didn't enjoy. Two of the four of us are actually autistic. On the way out my girlfriend told me she spoke with one of the actually funny comics and he said he even left during Blackksmyths set because he also felt those jokes were unnecessary. This was supposed to be a fun silly time out with delicious food. Instead we left pissed, offended and with a bad taste in our mouths. I contacted Pupusas & punchlines to let them know and said that I just hope they can find out more about their comics acts before booking them and do better in the future and that we would however like a refund of our tickets. They apologized for us not liking "parts" of the show and stated they "book all different types of comics, and that is why we post the lineup and expect the attendees to research the comedians to make sure their tastes align." They also mentioned that the "audience demo skews catholic conservative so we typically try to serve the tastes of that demo. Unfortunately we cannot issue a refund once the show has completed due to limitations with our ticketing system. But we can issue you comp tickets in the future to a lineup that more aligns with your taste." What does "the audience demo skews catholic conservative so we typically try to serve the tastes of that demo" mean exactly? That catholic conservatives are transphobic, homophobic, misogynistic and ableist is the take away and that's who they are serving is the take away. So I reached out to eventbrite the ticketing system they used about refunds. I spoke with them explained what happened and they messaged me stating "That's really frustrating, especially when you're already dealing with a bad experience. The refund policy is actually set by the event organizer, not Eventbrite, so they do have the ability to issue one if they choose to" When I mentioned this they said that's an automated message and that the comics have already been paid so it's not possible. As someone who throws events, uses a ticketing system and has issued refunds before... there are ways even if it means doing it outside the system. I've venmoed before just to make sure the person got their refund. It's possible if you want to make it work. If you want to work with the people asking for said refund. They clearly don't want to. I asked them if they stood by their comics and the jokes made. They said "don't endorse or stand by any comic's jokes. All jokes are the opinions of the performers." So they don't even stand behind the acts they book or what they say they just give them a platform to showcase the fine examples of human disappointments they are. With no accountability what so ever. Save your money, time and frustration and find something better to do than Pupusas & Punchlines. They don't care about our (queer or autistic) community or concerns. Neither did those comics.... Full names above. read more

Went to this wonderful, cozy, intimate Salvadorian restaurant with a friend and had an AWESOME time! Daniel was our server and he did an exceptional, excellent, superb job serving us. He was personable, professional, friendly, and very knowledgeable with the menu. He offered me few options and the decision was ours. My friend and I shared couple of dishes which was flavorful, tasty, fresh and delicious. She had water and I had water and Mango margarita (blended) I hardly drink and it wasn't too strong...which I liked. Got their pupusas, Mar Y Tierra which is Rib Eye Steak with fine, grilled prawns/shrimp, Salvadorian rice, mashed black beans, small round tortillas, and salad. Pupusas came with pork, beans and cheese. It was my first time trying it and I really liked the texture and taste. Size was BIG, and still had left overs from the meal. Nice, generous portions with affordable prices. They have a full bar and it is kind of cute that is just a step away from the restaurant, but inside the restaurant. Like a separate room. Caught my attention.:-) Restaurant was CLEAN, including the bathroom. Overall a GREAT EXPERIENCE! Will return whenever I feel like having Salvadorian food! Thanks Daniel. Since he was soooo good, I left him over 20% tip, which he deserved! Cost of food and beverage was $48.37. Will post pictures later when I get a minute. read more

This is one of those great places that I'd want to keep to myself but can't be greedy with it because it's too great not to share. Every item in this menu is spectacular, filled with authentic fresh homemade flavors you can't find elsewhere in Los Angeles. I make it a point to get at least two different pupusas, and entree to eat half there and take home the rest, AND the tastiest empanadas ever, their fried Plantain empanadas with sweet milk. I have to get these every time I go (see video)!!! Can't forget the staff here that are ALWAYS friendly and helpful! Such a gem! The revueltas are magical. Make sure to drown them in curtido & salsa roja.

To the owner of Jaragua. My family and I buy food from your restaurant weekly, we spend about $115.00 We asked for extra lemon for the fish and the fried chicken. they wanted to charge me for it! Why? Am I not spending enough money for you to give 2 extra pcs of lime? Your limes are super dry they have no juice! After today you will not see us buying and supporting your business. Your prices are already higher than other places, you should really reconsider your decision to charge people that have been your customers for years. We have been supporting your business since your location at Berendo. read more

Tamarindo juice and ensalada juice are super refreshing and natural. They have live mariachi singer on Sundays 1-4pm who is as good if not better than Chente. Very enjoyable. Jaragua - Revuelta con Todos - Salvadoran Near Me - Los Angeles, California

*FOOD QUALITY* The food and ambience at this restaurant are seriously so cozy, delicious, and homemade - it feels as if you're eating straight from someone's backyard! The menu is simple, but at the same time you get a touch of southern California and a splash of El Salvador - as someone who has never even visited the country, it really took me to a place that I feel like I've been before, but still felt so fresh and new at the same time. A friendly pupusa, a perfectly crisp plantain. Whether it's your first time, fifth time or 500th time - dining here feels like a welcoming smile, the warmth of a family you feel like you knew in a past life. Pan Con Pavo (5/5) - This sandwich is sizable, and the turkey reminded me of Thanksgiving! All Meat Dishe (5/5) - Can't get over the taste of the plantain, it really felt like someone's grandma cooked it up fresh from a home kitchen. The combination of the cheese, the pico de gallo, and the thin steak wrapped in their fresh tortilla is so delectable. This was a recommendation from one of the servers! Revuelta Con Todos (5/5) - I usually avoid cheese, but this pupusa took me to another place. It is so warm, hearty, and all encompassing - it gives me the feeling of when I drink soup on a cold dreary day. *SERVICE* Service was very homey and super kind. They explained what certain menu items were, and recommended their personal favorites, which we tried and absolutely loved. They were also very quick to service our table and take our orders. *AMBIANCE* This restaurant is so spacious and is super family friendly! With the walls painted in colors of clay, tables in shades of warm wood, and wide windows flanking the street facing walls, dining in the restaurant gave a sense of familial comfort that was very endearing. Whole generational families were experiencing a lovely Friday night at this joint, and it really made me smile to dine alongside everyone. *PARKING* There is a parking lot in the back of the restaurant where you can park for free (yay!)! read more

The food was delicious. The pupusas were very tasty, the size is pretty generous so one is enough. I'd seen pupusas and punchlines over and over again on TikTok. Back again in LA- this time we went to Jaragua- in Korean Town of all places! I have been to many Salvadorian places, some are good, some not, but others really deserve the crown. Jaragua definitely has the taste of El Salvador and is one of the Top locals. From the moment you step foot, you feel transported by the art, culture and feel of El Salvador. Today we arrived deep- 15 Strong- and it was phenomenal. One server backed by two helpers, everyone just started to order and the plates began to come one after the other, like an assembly line.
