I had decided to head to Orange County from LA at 3 p.m. I knew my fate. I was destined to sit in traffic for the next few hours. While on the freeway, I made a spontaneous decision. I would take the very first exit I saw and enjoy a nice meal. As fate would have it, that random exit led me to Café Brasil, a place that had been on my list for quite some time. After parking in what looked like a motel parking lot, I found the entrance to the restaurant. The decor was phenomenal, the vibes were beautiful, and from the moment I walked in, I felt at home. While asking a few questions and trying to decide what to order, I met Miss Fatima herself the legendary owner who has made Café Brasil a staple in Los Angeles for the last three decades. I ordered the feijoada and the pão de queijo. Fatima herself tried teaching me how to pronounce them, and somehow our conversation drifted to flight schools in the U.S. and Canada. I loved every bite of the food, but even more than that, I appreciated meeting someone who has dedicated herself to her craft and been consistent year after year. read more

Make sure to visit their sauce station and get some of the house hot sauce, it was great and really complimented our meal! We got the Chicken Stroganoff, Feijoada, and Lamb Chops. Everything was delicious and we shared it all between four people. I enjoyed the Chicken Stroganoff to most, the flavors were perfect! First time visiting and we got to meet the owner who is a sweet 86 year old grandma! Everything tasted a bit more homemade than like a restaurant. We were looking for a place to get our feijoada fix on a Wednesday and it was hard to find one that's not a churrascaria steakhouse..(feijoada is usually served on Saturday's/weekends). This place serves feijoada everyday! We also ordered the picanha although it was a bit too well done and tough (should have asked for a bit more rare, maybe medium rare or rare). Got two fruit juices, sugar cane with passion fruit (super good, must try) and a classic orange juice. It comes with their signature cheese bread, fried plantains, a slice of watermelon, Brazilian coffee, and fresh-squeezed passion fruit juice--a combination that always feels like a treat. This time, however, the portion on my plate felt a little smaller than usual. My husband added Portuguese sausage to his plate, which is an additional $7. It was a beautiful Southern California day, so we chose to sit outside and enjoy the lush, garden-style patio. The outdoor seating really makes the experience feel relaxed and leisurely. I went here for lunch with a friend after hiking and it hit the spot! You order at a counter then seat yourself inside or outside the restaurant. It is very home-y inside. We both ordered the executive lunch special, mine with steak and hers with chicken, each $16. We also ordered a few pao de queijo for $1 each and the pasteis for $5. They also have different juice flavors and I got mango and she got passion fruit, juice $7. I paid about $35 for my meal and it left me very full afterwards. The rice was soft and buttery and beans were cooked perfectly. All the food went well together. We parked on the street at a meter. What an absolutely fun and eclectic restaurant with tons of heart. I wish I could give it more stars but my vegan platter wasn't all that great. As soon as you walk in, you order right up front. They give you a number and you take a seat anywhere. This is a family run business. She suggested the chicken stroganoff (Estrogonofe de Frango) and the seafood stew (Moqueca). When I heard stroganoff, I was expecting something like beef stroganoff with egg noodles, but this was way better. It was a creamy chicken dish served with rice and garlicky kale on the side, and everything was incredibly flavorful. The kale was especially amazing with all the garlic. I was in the mood for something outside my usual go-to lunch places. We found Cafe Brasil on yelp and decided to check out their lunch specials. $14 got me a grilled chicken, rice, black beans and plantains. My other half got the steak with the same fixins. We enjoyed the chicken but the steak was excellent. Next time I'd like to try their pork chops. This is a sit down restaurant setup but you order at the counter, you get. number and you grab a seat. I'm not sure if it's the same during dinner time. I overheard the person at the register mentioning that the lunch options are the same as the dinner except they are smaller portions and does not include soup/salad. I love the ambiance of the restaurant (see my photos) - it's so colorful and quaint - very cool place to introduce people to and sometimes it's nice to venture outside of Mexican food which is usually most peoples go-to latin cuisine. I also rarely go to Brazilian places because of the all-you-can-eat meat aspect which tends to be a bit much for me. I love meat but I can't do it all the time. This isn't ayce. Funny cnough, they are connected to a Brazilian motel (first in LA?) which looks just as quaint and adorable with bright colors and cute seating areas - it looks like the kind of place you might see on a TV show where everyone is hanging out in the courtyard. I bring this up just to mention there was a parking lot behind the restaurant in between the motel. I love supporting these types of ethnically owned small businesses so check it out! read more
