For some odd reason, I was expecting more and this visit did not meet my expectations. Being from NY, I'd say 5 stars for the NY style look and feel, but only 1 star for the execution. Kind of a weird set up. You walk in and boom, there's a table within arm's length. No sign or anything with directions, so we sat ourselves. It was right around noon time and the dining room was filling up. Our server came right over for our drink order. By the time she returned, we were ready to order. Mrs B, wishing for breakfast, ordered a Western Omelet. I chose a corned beef on rye. Our wait was not long and soon disappointment set in. There was no cheese in the omelet and the ham appeared to be pieces of ham patties. My sandwich was nothing like a NY Kosher Deli sandwich. What was I thinking?? This was NY STYLE. It was not huge and towering, but, a bit on the small size for the price. Since fries were not an option with the sandwich, I chose to get chips with it. Who serves salt and pepper chips with sandwich? Definitely not something I would choose. What was great, however, was the potato knish. Just like I remember them. What truly kept this from being a disaster was the service. Our server was super friendly and attentive without being intrusive and overbearing. They must be doing something right. Unfortunately, I never got the opportunity to try the food here. I have a newly discovered gluten sensitivity, which sucks because I love stuff that happens to have gluten in it. I called to ask if they had gluten free bread, and the guy who answered the phone was very rude to me. From a certain standpoint, I can understand the frustration in answering this question. There is a negative cultural connotation to diet restrictions. I don't care that they didn't have gluten free bread, I just wish he wasn't so damn rude. It makes it tough and embarrassing to ask these questions. After answering with a very rude and condescending "no", he hung up the phone instead of suggesting possible alternatives such as a salad. Seems from other reviews on here they (or, possibly just the owner?) have a history of being rude to customers. Why give your business to someone rude when you can get good service somewhere else? They lost out on a good amount of business, because I was calling on behalf of more than just myself. read more

We went here after being recommended by a few people. Finally, one day we couldn't settle on anything else and ended up here, bad choice. The guy behind the counter was abrasive and rude and when we questioned him about a few of the menu items he seemed annoyed, and it wasn't even busy. Good food could have overcome this problem. This is a great deli located in Trolley Sq Framingham. The prices and portions are really good and 2 people can eat for under $20. I have been here for breakfast on many occasions and it's always been consistently good. The Western omelette is awesome and I like the Western sandwich if I'm getting take out. Pancakes are huge and they let you order them as a side for only 1.99!!! That's a bargain. The staff are very attentive and you're never waiting on a coffee refill! They are known for their awesome sandwiches too but I have unfortunately never quite made it for lunch. This place can get pretty busy for breakfast on a he weekends around 9-11 but they turn tables really quickly so I've never actually had to wait for a seat. Kugel's Deli is located right off of route 9, just a couple of minutes away from downtown Framingham and serves up some pretty authentic NY deli-style fare at a pretty affordable price. I've been there a couple of times and both experiences have been positive. My go-to sandwich is and always will be the corned beef sandwich on white bread (I don't like rye bread) with some deli mustard. But they have a ton of other items for breakfast and lunch including all kinds of egg dishes like omelets and sandwiches as well as pancakes, sandwiches, wraps, soups and many more things. There's staples like noodle kugels, pastrami, corned beef and even latkes, kishke, knishes and liver & onions. All of the classics are covered, and they even have lunch specials Monday through Thursday. I don't believe that I've seen anything priced above $10 there and the quality and value are great, which makes this place pretty damn awesome. Everytime I've been there, I also haven't been able to resist taking some of their fresh bagels to go. The place is clean, the staff is friendly however it's also been hit or miss. They do hire local teens to help out and the service at times hasn't always been as good as one could have hoped; lack of menu knowledge especially but it's no big deal. This, alongside Michael's Deli in Brookline could very well be the best two delis in Massachusetts. I'm a fan and will return, hopefully sooner rather than later. This place makes a pretty darned good pastrami. It was loaded and although I had to ask for an extra pickle so that I could slice it myself to put in my sandwich it was a pretty good sandwich. The cole slaw left something to be desired but the pastrami made up for it. read more

My boyfriend and I went to get breakfast earlier this week and sadly we were disappointed. I love the Kugels in Brookline and assumed it would be as great here. The bagel I received after asking for an everything toasted bagel with cream cheese was barely toasted, and had barely any seasoning on it. My boyfriend ordered a breakfast sandwich and he said it was ok but the homefries were mostly burnt, hard and no seasoning. We will not be returning. read more

I love this place. My favorites are rachel and reuben sandwiches with french fries. I always order a piece of kugel for take-out. I prefer the regular kugel with apple sauce over the fruit kugel. Just my personal preference. I always want to try other types of sandwiches but the rachel and reuben are so nice I don't even want to "cheat" on my favorite sandwiches. When I moved from Texas, which was about a year ago, I discovered this restaurant and I thought moving to Massachusattes was actually a good decision because getting a decent reuben is just impossible in Texas. read more

Absolutely loved this place! I'm originally from Hopkinton, born and raised, and I'd never been here but ALWAYS heard of it. FINALLY I went and it was delicious. Pretty small place, but it was cozy and quaint. The waitress was OK. She sort of seemed like she was rushing us to order, but she was nice anyways. I got the Lox Benedict: 2 thumbs up!! I've never had Lox that good before! My boyfriend got the ribeye and he was in love. He also tried my meal and fell in heaven haha He's never had it before and was very anxious to try it but he did thoroughly enjoy it!! Owner was nice, too. The younger blonde and the owner of the shop, not so friendly and rude. I get it, it's business, but my OWN clients even warned me, but I bit the bullet and should've listened. This is our 'hangover cure' brunch special. We usually visit this place on a Sunday morning. Be vary, even though this is a jewish deli, the Sunday crowd comes right in after mass across the street, so be wary of what time you come in on a Sunday. Parking is never a problem, thought seating might be. This is not a great place for big groups, but they try an accommodate everyone. MY favorite is the smoked salmon (LOX) benedict. Perfectly cooked eggs with smoked salmon and a lavish & creamy hollandaise on top of two toasted muffins. I've never been able to finish the entire portion in one sitting. The orange juice is freshly squeezed( or so I like to think for the price we pay). Another staple I get there is Irish benedict. The same as the lox except with corned beef hash....hmmmmm! The only dish I didnt care for was their Challah French toast, which I found extremely bready and chewy. Seemed like the batter didn't go all the way through the toast, leaving it a little dry in the center. Other than that everything else I have tried there has seemed a winner. They do have decent NY memorabilia around the restaurant and you walk right into the clothes stand as you enter. But don't wait to be seated if you see a free table, just go grab it. If you order coffee, your cup will never run dry, they are always serving you refills. Bottom Line: This is a no frills, all about the food, eat till you are satisfied kind of place. I've never paid more than $10 for brunch, and it doesn't get better than that. read more

This year, one of my goals is to try at least one new restaurant every month. My good friend lived in the Sovereign apartments across the way from this deli for almost 3 years now and he has never been there. I haven't either and after finishing an early morning errand, I figured I would do a kind deed and surprise my friend with breakfast for us to share. I park in the decently plowed lot and when I walk inside, I'm pleasantly surprised to see how many tables were full at 10:30am on a snowy Sunday. It shocked me at first how the place was designed more for sitting down than for takeout orders. So it took me some guidance to realize that I had to grab a menu from the concealed register and order from the guy at the counter. I ordered Challah French Toast, Blintzes and 2 orders of home fries, after learning the dishes I ordered do not come with them. It was about a 15 minute wait with nowhere to really sit down, without taking away a table from a potential customer, which felt a little awkward being the only one ordering takeout. He then proceeded to pack and stack 4 Styrofoam boxes into 1 plastic bag... I thought that was a bit excessive, especially with the home fries on top... with extra juices sloshing around... I'm so glad it didn't spill in my car. But there was appropriate silverware provided and he went to the back to get me sour cream and applesauce for the blintzes. The potatoes smelled heavenly! I brought it over and we dived in. The side of home fries is HUGE, one side can easily feed two. And they tasted even better than their heavenly aroma. The blintzes were delicious as well although I was thrown off by the lemon flavor within the cheese. I was always used to more of a savory creamy cheese blend inside, not sweet, so it threw me off. But once I added the sour cream, it was divine. The Challah French Toast, my friend really enjoyed it but I thought it was just meh, typical, standard, run of the mill French toast at cheap diners, I doubt Challah bread was actually used. I personally wouldn't order that dish again. This place is definitely a viable breakfast option in Metrowest. If I was to order takeout, I would automatically order ahead now. I think there might be some charm with dining in, so that will have to take place in the future. But it isn't my favorite place for breakfast in Framingham, J&M Diner still holds that title. read more

I ordered a Romanian Pastrami sandwich and was shocked to watch the woman slice some pre cooked, pre packaged pastrami, place it in an old outdated microwave and slap it on some bread. hey, its sunday morning, you still a little sleepy? maybe a bit hungry? why not go out to a nice lazy sunday breakfast? you wanna know where a good place not to go is? here. we decided to go out for some breakfast this morning much like you are maybe thinking right now. well this place is close to us now and mer thought it would be good to get out for once. overall, not so much meh. my french toast was anything but intercontinental, her chocolate chip pancakes were the highlight and we will see what the reheats are going to be like around halftime. service really upset me, eager to start(get you in) and finish(get you out), not some much when it came to the actual eating/dining/anticipating portion. its safe to say, sunday morning, take a coffee pot around with you, prepare for people wanting some brown gold. also irking is when mer asked for only one latka, they insisted she get a portion with two, when there was clearly just one available on the menu. my sausages were a let down too (yeah, i get that a lot, ha ha) there was a crazy man screaming so that broke the tension i felt from coming in with the little guy, still two stars overall. i hate the lines, but mels on 30 might be better in the grand scheme of noms. read more

I took my son here for breakfast today and it was a first visit for both us. I can't believe I haven't eaten here before! The food was fantastic with generous portions and great flavor. The sevice was speedy and attentive. I had 2 eggs over easy with bacon, potatoes, and a bagel. I added chive cream cheese and it was spectacularly flavored with nice bite size chunks of scallions throughout. My son (who is somewhat of a picky eater) had the chocolate chip pancakes and sausage. The pancakes were HUGE and he got 3 of them. They were moist and sweet and his side order of sausage was cooked to perfection. The best part was the bill because we got lots of food for under $20. The food, sevice, price, and ample parking will bring us back to this place on a regular basis. If I could give zero stars, I would. The one star is for the bagel--bagels are my "desert island food"(yes, I know that's an odd choice, don't judge me, it is what it is), so I'm a bagel snob. It wasn't the best bagel but it was good and made fresh, and the cream cheese was good. Went in about two weeks ago and had to listen to the Kelly Rippa show at a high volume on the TV. Was able to stuff some napkin in my ears and survive breakfast. Today I went in and Jim Kramer was on with his sleeves rolled up and yelling about what stocks to buy. No one was watching it and the noise had started a bit of blood to trickle from my ears. I've been living in Framingham for more than three years and for some reason I never found Kugel's until this weekend. It's tucked away in the Trolley Square shopping center on Rte. 9. But i'm glad I endured the unbelievably long long and waited for lunch. Any hidden location with such a long line has to be good - in my opinion. I ordered my food to go and despite a pretty long wait I finally was home eating my lunch. The Reuben was absolutely delicious. It reminded me of growing up in New York. As I stood waiting for my lunch I saw a number of orders go out of all types of food from breakfast to lunch and it all looked and smelled amazing. Combine that with the sweets you'd normally find only in a New York Deli (Black and White cookies anyone) and you've got a great combination of delicious authentic food, a large menu chuck full of variety, and an authentic experience. The only caution I would note is the line. I waited about twenty minutes for two sandwiches. Granted the place seemed abnormally busy but for someone looking for a quick bite Kugel's (time depending) probably isn't the best option. But i'd suggest waiting because I think you'll find it worth the wait. read more

As a gluten free patron, I was delighted to find this deli restaurant had gluten free bread although I did not see it listed on the menu. It was my first time here as I was dining with a friend who lives in the area and recommended this place. I ordered a special-cup of soup and half of a deli sandwich. The bill arrives with an extra charge of $2.00; I asked the cashier for what and was told it was the up charge for my "one" slice of gluten free bread. I thought this was a bit over the top; the owner said that gluten free bread is expensive, and the up charge is always $2.00. For "1" slice I thought this was unreasonable; the owner snapped that "You must not get around much" . Well, I have been diagnosed with celiac, and have been gluten free for 10 years;I happen to eat out 3-4x/week; usually the up charge is stated clearly on the menu giving the patron a choice. A whole loaf may be $4.99 but 15-20 slices.....I feel this owner had a lousy policy and outlook...Maybe he could have been a mench and satisfy a customer instead of the rudeness and arrogance he exhibited AND now losing two customers as well. I hope other gluten free folks will think twice before eating here. read more

Kugel's is pretty much the only decent place near our client - so we pretty much eat there every day to the point where the owner knows me by name, voice, and face. Speedy service - call ahead 5-10 mins for 4-5 orders and its always ready when we get there. Awesome prices - $7.99 for a stacked sandwich and a side of potato salad. Great menu - everything from BLT, to hot pastrami, to corned beef, to hummus veggie wraps. Great flavor - salty and tender corned beef, copious amounts of bacon in the BLT, great fresh rye bread. Result? Kugel's is a right in the middle for jewish delis in my life (Canter's always comes to mind), but its damn good for whats around Framingham. So at Kugel's, you can actually sit down. I'm sure there is take out but it's kind of a strange layout in there. You walk in, and there is a rack of novelty shirts. To the right, some tables. To the left, a register, a meat fridge, and some of the biggest whoopie pies I've ever seen! Thankfully, when in a pinch, service is quick-ish (when you eat in) and the prices are decent. Not sure all of the sandwiches are out of this world, but I will say that they had a damned good Pastrami on rye. I've never been to a place that serves their meat in such thick slices ... lots of greese. Wowsers. But needless to say, I haven't gotten any pastrami in New York. I'm probably missing out. I wanted to like Kugel's so much because the menu choices looked delicious. I pictured coming back and trying everything. On the plus side, the flavors were good. We tried the challah french toast, the noodle kugel, corned beef hash, the kugel breakfast, and a roast beef sandwich. The french toast tasted good but hadn't been soaked long enough so it had dry bread spots. The kugel, again, tasted good but the noodles had been overcooked so they were a little mushy, and this is just a preference, but it would have been better with raisins in it. The breakfast was standard, nothing special. The corned beef hash, again, had flavor but the texture was mushy. The sandwich had plenty of meat and was good but honestly, the best thing in the whole meal was the crunchy yummy dill pickle that came with the sandwich. Service was slow and my friend had to wait an unacceptably long time to get cream for his coffee, but we probably would have overlooked that if the food was amazing. It has potential if they fixed the technical cooking issues but since it isn't an especially convenient location I probably wouldn't try it again. read more
