Ive driven by here for years and never knew about this spot. I heard about it through a friend and I had to try it out. We normally get Chinese food at China wok which is very good and your typical Chinese take out. My sister was in town and we decided to stop in on a Saturday evening. They close at 9pm and we showed up at around 7:50. The place was packed. Thats always a good sign. Their decor is nice and the place is cozy. It smells wonderful in there with all the Asian foods being cooked. We were seated quickly. I ordered the spring rolls with shrimp and crab Rangoon for the table as appetizers. I wanted dumplings but they were out of them (bummer) . Crab Rangoon was awesome. The red sauce it comes with seemed better than the overly red dyed typical sauce that comes with them at the other Chinese spots. The spring rolls were really good and I liked the peanut sauce. For my main dish I got the szechuan beef with fried rice. It also comes with an eggdrop soup. The soup was different than your typical Chinese spot. Seemed more like a homemade flavor than the the same egg drop you get everywhere else. My fried rice was fantastic. I judge Chinese spots by their fried rice and this place passes with flying colors. My beef was slightly spicey and delicious. The beef was sliced thin and didn't have any nasty tendons or fat. The sauce was rich and flavorful. Plenty of veggies in the dish also. My sister and wife both ordered a Thai style fried rice which is a little sweeter than the Chinese style. They both loved it. The food was a hit! our service was great. The young man was extra helpful and explained everything well. Their menu is pretty big. They have all kinds of dishes. I can't wait to go back and try some other dishes and I want to get those dumplings! I've found my new Chinese food spot! read more

I went here to get general tso for lunch. It was OK and pricey for what it was. It was a touch over fried. The sauce was good but spicy at all. The fried rice was fine. I do not think I'll be back but wouldn't tell someone not to go. Portions were OK to small. Service was good and I thought the interior was odd being so wide open. read more

I've been looking forward to checking the spot out especially after reading all the positive reviews. I called in my order. The server on the other end was so kind and polite. I was told my order would be ready within 20 minutes but I was right down the road and showed up within 10. They brought it out, piping hot and packaged nicely. One thing I will mention is I did not receive any sauces to include soy or chopsticks which was disappointing. Everyone that I encountered was very pleasant. Starting with the egg drop soup. While it was fresh there was a sweetness to it that I didn't love. After jazzing it up a bit with sauces from my house. I really enjoyed it. Next the hot and sour. This is a different rendition than I've ever seen. Super thick and almost had a barbecue like flavor/ tang to it. All in all I enjoyed it, just different. The garlic fried rice with chicken this time. Loved the addition of the garlic atop. Nicely done. The crab rangoons, I would absolutely order again. Kues cafe truly is Thai, Chinese Asian with many options on the menu to choose from. The service was excellent our waitress paid attention to detail to our specific requests. We had 3 different dishes and they offer lunch versus dinner portions as well. The green curry was outstanding! The drunken noodle dish was a little too sweet and needed more spice. My only negative is the veggie egg roll was just okay. The place was clean including silverware and booths. Its colorful on the outside so you cant miss it. Overall prices are more reasonable in comparison to other Thai restaurants in the area. read more

Nice atmosphere like a traditional Chinese restaurant up north. Employees are very nice. Two issues. I think they should cut down on oil because the fried rice and lo mein were very oily and greasy There's no reason if you know, you may run out of dumplings on a Friday or Saturday night that you don't make enough. The food is very good. It comes out hot and fresh, flavorful, and good dinner portions (we haven't tried the lunch size portions, but nice that either size can be ordered). The crispy noodles served with the soup are perfect. The red curry dishes, including the wide noodle dish with pork, are excellent. We had the fried tofu twice, once in green curry and once in peanut curry. Both were very good, and the spice levels were as ordered each time: hot for me, mild and medium for my wife. And the fried tofu is cooked beautifully. Pork is thinly sliced, very tender, but a little skimpy. Spring and egg rolls are superb, clearly they are freshly fried and not just sitting in a warmer. The tom ka soup is tasty though a little thin, but still very enjoyable. The egg drop soup is homey and enjoyable. Pricing is reasonable and based on food quality, a good value. As for service, I have mixed feelings. It's not bad, but also not much more than adequate. The hostess/server is efficient with ordering and bringing out the food, but she is not particularly engaging, and in terms of answering questions about the menu, she is not at all helpful in saying anything beyond the basic menu description or in giving any helpful suggestions. We have been served by her on more than one occasion, so I can't blame it on it being an unusual experience. A big criticism is that plates are not cleared before the next course is brought out or even after the next course is served. Soup bowls and appetizer plates simply pile up. This has happened each time we have eaten here. And we noticed this at other tables as well. Our server comes by to check on us but ignores the used plates. Another server walked by our table several times as he served another table, looked at the used plates and simply walked past. And when the diners at other tables leave, the tables are not cleared for way too long - at least 10 to 15 minutes. At both of our recent visits, the restaurant was moderately busy but not full or with people waiting. So it can't be explained by overworked staff. Unfortunately, it seems more like they didn't really care, couldn't be bothered to clear away used dishes, or lack training. I hope the owner and staff read this and work to improve this issue as it simply brings down the enjoyment of the meal. The restaurant itself is clean, apart from used dishes not being cleared away. It has good parking and seems to have a good client base. The food is a solid 4 so that's the rating I gave it. Service is a 3, which is on the generous side, but I didn't want to reduce my overall rating because the quality of the food is very good. I'm on the fence about future visits, mainly because of the service issue. I'll probably try it at least once more because the food is good and with the hope that they can improve on service. read more

Was so pleasantly surprised at the quality here! Service was super friendly, food came out lightning fast and piping hot. I really loved that they allowed us to order lunch-sized portions for dinner. We ordered the chicken lo mein, general tso chicken and Szechuan beef. Also, was surprised at how flavorful the complimentary egg drop soup was!!Normally it comes out a disgusting fake yellow color and looks slimy and unappetizing, like it was made from a packet... so I usually skip the egg drop soup. But this one was clearly homemade and had a really nice light broth to it. I ate the whole thing. Overall, really happy to have this little gem in Dunedin. I was in and out for dinner within 30 minutes and paid a really fair price for the meal. Will absolutely return! read more

It's an old Pizza Hut that's been converted to an Asian restaurant! When I walked in (though kind of dark) every table in the house was full. Well, this looked promising. Staff was friendly and patiently answered my questions from the menu as this was my first time here. I ordered spring rolls, garlic chicken, pad prik, and Thai fried rice. Medium spice is pretty hot. I was surprised as I was toying with ordering hot. I'm glad I didn't. I'd recommend starting medium spice first. Each entree came with complimentary egg drop soup that could not be substituted. It was good but a bit salty. Complimentary fried wonton strips were also brought to the table. These were super fresh and light. I could have eaten 3 bowls of this stuff! As for the entrees, the fried rice was a bit sweet, the garlic chicken was a bit salty, but the pad prik was just right! Portions are made for one, so it's best to not share if you're hungry.
