Came here to celebrate my sisters birthday and lets just say this was a complete DISASTER. Waitress took our entire order wrong and when we addressed it she started to argue and said no see I wrote it here its not wrong. Very unprofessional attitude. Didnt apologize for any of the mistakes. Then the cook was not fair with proportions, gave us barely any rice, when we mentioned it he said yeah that happens. This place went downhill really quick. I definitely do not recommend coming here unless you want them to take your money and run. If I could give this a zero star I would. I've actually been to Kuchi two others times but this particular review is based on my experience there this past Saturday night. My friend and I stopped in for a late bite to eat following a movie at the local AMC theater (that aspect of this location makes it very convenient!). We opted for a table in the bar area as we were not interested in sitting for a big hibachi show. We did however, desire to order the food that is prepared hibachi-style - just did not need it prepared right in front of us. We were brought warm towels to begin our experience and shortly after, our server arrived to ask if we were ready to place our orders. I responded by referring to the drink menu we were still browsing (I guess he assumed we were both down for a water-only meal?). Anyhow, we both ordered a glass of the house Cabernet and then proceeded to order our meals. For $27, I went with the Filet and Shrimp entree while my friend ordered the Filet and Scallops (a similar price if I remember correctly). As soon as we placed the orders we were served the soup and salad, which comes with the meal and is customary at Japanese Steakhouses. Naturally, as regular Kobe Steakhouse fans, we compared the quality of our meal to the food being served by Kobe. I really preferred Kuchi's salad as this dressing was a lot tastier than that of Kobe. The soup was meh...save your appetite for the main event - which in our case was also just O.K. The filet was the best part, incredibly tender and juicy - despite the fact that our server never even asked how we wanted it cooked. The shrimp was cooked in some type of sweeter sauce that I did not enjoy that much but ate anyway. The vegetables (which included mushrooms to my unexpected displeasure) and noodles tasted fairly standard - and that yum yum sauce...not as yum yum as Kobe's. That is FOR SURE. Service was alright but we felt quite rushed at the end of our meal. The server picked up our closed out credit card receipts before we had a chance to finish our first and only glass of wine; and that occurred just after my friend had transferred her leftovers to the Styrofoam box. Ultimately, I wouldn't knock this place entirely. It is a bit cheaper than their Kobe competitor, and MUCH easier to get into - at least based on patronage during a regular Saturday night. I highly doubt one would need a reservation unless it were a large party. The location is really convenient and their food is decently palatable for the average hibachi-goer. read more

Not too much to say. This is the place you visit if you are running late to a movie but want a quick bite to eat. They have decent sushi and decent prices. On the other hand, the manager working last night was one of those men who has a bad habit of calling his customers by pet-names. To my friend, he asked "would you like a refill, sweetie?" The fountain drink I ordered was nasty and I told the waitress who got defensive and tried to tell me I did order the drink instead of listening to me trying to tell her it's nasty and I'd like to try a different one. Don't judge a book by its cover. OR this restaurant from the outside. The 3 people that were with me almost didn't want to get out. I had to tell them to relax and get off & let them know my fellow Yelpers wouldn't let me down on the recommendation! The hibachi cook came out and we were ready for the show... I missed the one chance to snap when he made a big fireball. And that was it. I literally didn't see anything else fun or entertaining by him at all. He just cooked our food. Which isn't a bad thing because we were all hungry, but come on! The best part of dinner was dessert. My birthday had just passed and when the waiter heard that, him and who I think was the bus boy, came out and jammed out on a drum and brought me some fried goodness with ice cream and ice cream for the others at the table. THAT was the entertainment for the night! Oh! I forgot about the food... haha! It was good! Fried rice is always my favorite! The scallops were a bit on the "soft" side. I found this place when I moved to Tampa 4 years ago and this was my second time there. Let me start by explaining why I don't give it 5 stars. Even though it is really good sushi and hibachi, the overall experience did not wow me. On the contrary, the chef even made a really bad joke: "do I make you nervous? Because you haven't looked at me once". NO. He didn't make me nervous, I was just catching up with my friend and I was more invested in my conversation with her than paying attention to the same tricks you find at any hibachi restaurant. Food was really good though! I order steak and scallops and they were on point! Lunch order does not include noodles though just FYI in case you are really hungry. Their location is super convenient! First time here. My husband is a die hard Kobe fan and I have been trying to find another place to sway him. I found Kuchi Sushi and decided to give it a try because it was super close and we were starving. We were one of 4 cars in the parking lot which generally scares me but we proceeded anyway. Upon entering I noticed the decor was very nice. It's light and airy on the side with just the tables and more of a warm welcoming feel on the side with the hibachi tables. We were seated as soon as we walked in and before we could even put our butts in the chair we were bombarded by someone asking for our drink orders. I typically like to browse the wine and cocktail list but I felt so pressured we both just went with lemonade. After placing our drink orders we actually sat down and as soon as we did that someone was at our table taking our dinner orders. Ok, seriously????! We didn't even get to browse the menu. I quickly ordered a sushi roll and my hibachi dinner which was just shrimp. The sushi came out literally 3 minutes later. I couldn't believe it. I felt so rushed I started getting indigestion. I found this place on a whim. We came when they had just opened in the afternoon on a Sunday. The building stands by itself in a vacant lot but don't let it fool you. The decor inside was more semi formal, with white dinner chairs around the hibachi table and grey ones at the normal dining seating. The room was semi separated by a glass wall. We only had the sushi. Rolls were a bit pricey and They all started around $12.00, but I didn't get a good look at the ingredients in it. instead we opted for the sushi boat. We chose the largest sushi boat for $88.00. Why it's so expensive? Probably because it was less sashimi, but more their featured rolls ( 6 full sized rolls). It came out fairly quickly, but we were the only ones there. The sushi chef put a lot of time into the presentation, and it was quite eye catching. The sashimi tasted very fresh, not fishy at all and I can see why they considered it their featured rolls. I'll definitely be coming back again for he hibachi and to try other sushi. Our server was very patient with those of us who had no clue what we were ordering, and she was helpful in offering suggestions. The hibachi chef was entertaining and fun to watch as he made our meals! Our food was fresh, and the service was attentive. KUCHI Sushi & Hibachi is a fairly new combination restaurant that serves fresh sushi and sashimi on one side of the restaurant, and sit-down Japanese Hibachi-style cooking on the other side of the restaurant. Normally these types of hybrid restaurants do a good job in one area, but fail in the other, however KUCHI has found the successful formula to blend fresh and innovative sushi rolls with the artistic showmanship and delicious cooking on the hibachi grills. You'll find KUCHI in the AMC 24 Veterans movie theater shopping center along Anderson Road. There are several other restaurants, coffee shops, and bars on the various outparcels around the movie theater. Unfortunately many of the previous restaurants have gone out of business after a short while, leaving me to wonder if this shopping center is haunted by the ghosts of restaurants past? KUCHI has been open about three months as of this writing, and the exterior still looks a lot like the former Bennigan's restaurant that occupied the same space. Through the front doors and you'll be greeted by the hostess who asks if you want to have sushi or hibachi-style dining. If you say "hibachi" then you'll be led to the left to the traditional U-shaped tables around the hibachi grill. If you say "sushi" you'll be directed straight ahead to either sit around the large sushi bar, or at one of the nearby tables. I have no idea what they will do if you say "both". On the sushi side of the restaurant, they also have a small sake-tasting bar in the back of the room. Presumably this is where you would sit and wait for the rest of your party to arrive before being shown to your hibachi table. On this particular night I decided to sit at the sushi bar and try some of their rolls, although on my next visit I'd like to try the teppanyaki menu choices. The bulk of the menu is filled with creative sushi rolls and sushi special combinations, KUCHI offers traditional nigiri and sashimi, but the focus seems to be on their rolls. If raw fish isn't your thing then the flip side of the menu has teriyaki, tempura, katsu and noodle dishes, in addition to the plethora of protein choices that can be grilled up on the hibachi by your chef. They have some limited vegetarian options, but this is primary steak, chicken, and seafood on the grill. For my dinner I ordered the Spicy Maki combo which were three rolls - spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and spicy yellowtail. Very basic, and very good. Upon the recommendation of my server I also ordered the Painted Lady roll which was a spectacular combination of spicy lobster with mango and asparagus, topped with spicy tuna, and avocado, and served with mango sauce and Sriracha. That roll was delicious! The emphasis is on the chef's knife skills and artistic presentations of each plate of sushi. I watched them carving little statues made with daikon radish and carrot which were true works of art. It would be fun to go back with a group and watch them prepare larger platters and sushi boats with these playful creations. I do hope that KUCHI beats the odds and stays open for a while. I'd like to go back and try some more of their sushi, and possibly get a group together to go for their hibachi-style meals. read more

Do you can look past the name and not giggle I think you'd enjoy this restaurant. The location itself isn't impressive as the plaza is a bit run down. The interior is decorated very well. Think nightclub without the music. We didn't try the sushi and skipped to the hibachi instead. Our chef was fantastic. Very entertaining. The food was good and they were able to adjust to a shellfish allergy someone in our group has. He kept the saki going during the whole meal. Which is great because their wine serving is a less than normal. A half a glass is more like 1/4. I will definitely be back. read more

Very nice interior and decor to this place. You can tell that the owners put a lot of though into the layout as the design is very modern and appealing to the eye. You are greeted by a nice water fountain as soon as you step inside and have the option at sitting in the sushi or hibachi area. Me and the misses elected to go to the sushi area because we were craving for good sushi. Gotta admit the presentation of the sushi was excellent as our dish came with a cool design of a shrimp that was drawn on using some type of sauce. The sushi however fell short as we received I'd say 85% rice/veggie/fruit and the remaining in small amounts of actual meat/fish. For the price we paid for each roll (about $15) I guess we expected more meat/fish or substance other than veggie/fruit in our sushi. We did order the ika maruyaki (grilled squid) which was very good and came in a big dish but as for the sushi it fell way short of our expectations. I would give them 10 stars if I could! We went for my nephews birthday and it was the best hibachi show we have ever had. We usually do Benihana for birthdays while in Orlando and we are so glad we gave Kuchi a try! They really raised the bar! Our chef had all the tricks and our servers were so good. My nephew was so happy and loved the tricks that they did when they shot the broccoli in our mouths. They even managed to get all of the broccoli in everyone's mouths. Such a great time! Updating my 5 Star review from 3 years ago to a 1 star review due to horrible treatment from management. We have been going to Kuchi for years and a group of 7 of us went for a colleagues birthday on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch. Two of the seven arrived 5 minutes before the rest of us. The manager would not seat them at a table until the rest of the party was present. Normally, I would understand this, as i worked in the restaurant industry for 8 years, but our table was the only table in the entire restaurant (if that doesn't give you a sign this place is going downhill, idk what does) Anywho, now onto the drinks. Everyone orders a round, I order a cosmo. The server didn't know what a cosmo was, so he asked the manager. The manager then came to the table to ask if a cosmo was a martini, and if it should be served in a martini glass. The manager also asked what Jameson was when someone at our table ordered it. My cosmo came out looking like a Shirley Temple... fully equipped with a cherry inside... I didn't say anything at this time because I was here for my friends birthday and it wasn't that big of a deal. Fast forward- food comes out, we all eat and it's time for our checks. I only ordered two cosmos on my tab, and when my bill came it was $27.00. The person next to me has two drinks and a full hibachi lunch and their bill was $25.00! I then asked the server why my drinks were so expensive. Everyone else at the table has 6.00 drinks and my "cosmos" are 13.00 and served as a spiked Shirley Temple?! The manager/owner then proceeds to fight me saying that there are three different types of liquor in a cosmo. When I tried to calmly question the price she snapped and cut me off and wouldn't let me finish my sentence. The most humiliating part is she is truly losing the service of all 7 of us due to her rude actions and words. I wasn't wanting a free drink, I was just wanting justification on why my well vodka drink cost 13.00 when everyone else's cost 6. She was also fully aware that we were there celebrating a birthday and she still had to come off rude and aggressive. What a SHAME to lose the business of the only table you had in the restaurant over the manager feeling like she needed to prove a customer wrong. I will not be returning and unfortunately the manager and owner is 100% the cause for that. read more

I always order my filet & Shrimp and usually (in my experience) your steak is cooked separately from everyone else's so you get the full 5-6oz you pay for.
