Dined in for the first time and these are my thoughts in a nutshell. One thing for sure is that Kelp will have a beautifully presented dish. Their marketing team clearly put some effort into it the actual menu booklet because it's really nice. I wasn't really impressed with the sushi I ordered. It may have just been the rolls I ordered. The tuna nachos however, were fantastic and I would order them again. The service was also exceptional. The rolls are also on the pricier side compared to other sushi in the Tampa Bay Area. I would try Kelp again for a redemption opportunity. read more

I have tried the sushi burrito, the sushi burger and the inception roll. My all time favorites are the inception roll and the sushi burger. I love that the sushi burger is so much food, you'll get full. It comes with sweet potato fries and the 'burger' is a good size in my opinion. This was a great addition to their menu. The customer service here is great, this is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in that area. Definitely be sure to check them out. They have options for everyone. read more

We got it to go so I can't even talk to you about their service because I wouldn't know: the basic sushi rolls are exactly just that; basic. The two specialty rolls we got were yummy. I thought the food here was really good! Took my dad and step mom as it was all of our first time and we were impressed with the food. We all picked different sushi plates and my favorite from the bunch was the ribeye campfire. Soo good. I got the watermelon mint mocktail and that was really refreshing. I highly recommend this place but also recommend reservations during peak hours. We didn't have one but luckily we beat another party and got seated right away. We noticed the party after us were still waiting almost up until we left. The restaurant is really nice with warm lighting to set the mood for evening time. It's a unique find in Tampa! One of the best option is the sushi burritos where you can make your own. The maki and rolls are both fresh and delicate. Services have always been top notch each time I've been here. We always prefer the booth as they provide a nice quieter cove to have conversations. I really liked Kelp Sushi Joint. It's pretty bright colored and eye catching inside with a nice modern lounge feel and upbeat music. I came here to try their sushi burger. I have had it one other time at Wave Sushi in Mt. Dora by Orlando and simply loved it! I had the salmon sushi burger which came with choice of side which I had the sweet potato fries. These were quite tasty. I do feel that I wish there would have been more chunks of salmon, but the flavor was quite tasty. Our server was nice, but very hard to find. Really solid place for sushi and Japanese food in the Westchase area! Love the classy ambiance and service is fast and the servers are super friendly and accommodating! The food was very good, and I think the sushi was very creative. It wasn't necessarily the most typical things that you'd see on the menu. The sushi burger was by far the best deal and the best tasting dish! The burger is a great deal, and the fries are very sugary. The fries were coated in sugar, and they didn't match the taste of the burger. The service was okay, but the waiter was rushing us to leave a little. We did come a little after dinner rush hour, but it wasn't anywhere near closing. The restaurant booths were dirty, but I also had mosquitos biting me inside of the restaurant. I called to do a take out order. I was put on hold by the staff while I was already driving to the business to pick up my order that I wanted to place. It takes me 15-20 minutes to drive over there, meanwhile I'm still on hold the entire time I drive over there. I arrive at the business thinking maybe the place could be busy. Not only was the place almost empty, but I walk in on the staff just standing there doing nothing. They were able to take my order no problem when I walked in. It would have been nice if they didn't forget I was on hold so I didn't have to wait an extra 15 minutes to get my food. I don't appreciate my time being wasted. read more

Delivery service for dinner was an epic fail. We ordered 5 rolls and 4 bowls for it come with no soy sauce, no chopsticks and no napkins. We had to run to Target to get condiments before eating. I swear every time I visit they lose 1 star. Today they lose yet another! Came in on my lunch break for their $10 lunch combo which includes 2 classic rolls and option of soup or salad. First they didn't have the cucumber as an option to be more keto as a sub for rice as I've gotten before then they didn't have the Tampa roll on the menu anymore. Actually the menu didn't even have the $10 lunch special, we had to actually ask. We were seated immediately and greeted immediately for our drink and food orders. I ordered the Mexican and Florida rolls with salad. My coworker ordered the Mexican and California rolls with soup. I also asked for a side of spicy Mayo. Other coworker got the Mexican and Philadelphia roll with salad. The salads took a bit of time to arrive and the coworker that ordered the soup didn't get her soup! They brought a salad. Sigh! The rolls took longer to come out and not once while we were waiting did the waiter come by to check on our drinks or us. Rolls were delivered by another staff member with of course no spicy Mayo. Asked for it to which she said ok and disappeared. Let me point out that the guy that took our order originally was merely standing in the back just looking around. He walked past our table and as he passed my coworker got his attention seeking the spicy Mayo to which he said ok and kept walking past us. The lady that brought our food finally brought the Mayo and I could eat. The food was good. Fresh and delicious. However as usual the service SUCKED!! I'm so fed up with the lack of service. Very cool quaint sushi spot. It is very chill and the decor is nice. We came here on a Sunday evening and were seated right away. It was not crowded but the service was extremelyyyyy slow. I assume they maybe only had 1-2 waitresses. The specialty rolls in my opinion are pricey at about $17-20 / roll. They were really good but I've had better for less. We also got the Ginger salad which was very dry. We had asked for additional dressing and added another kind of dressing bc it was bland. I'll preface that I love Kelp and think they make awesome sushi. This location, however, is not the best. They have two in Tampa and the south Tampa location is significantly better. While this location has a lot of space to sit, the atmosphere was dead and borderline sad. I went around dinner time thinking it would be packed and I was the only one there. In terms of food, it was just ok. It's hard to describe but the sushi didn't taste fresh. It wasn't bad or inedible in any way. It just didn't taste great. The point of comparison I have is their other location in South Tampa. At that location, the sushi always tastes fresh and delicious. I recommend Kelp, just not this location. read more

Kelp sushi is famous on their happy hour items. Recently they have the poke specials. We decided to try their poke. We got the build you own poke. The only one thing they cannot compare to most build your own poke is because the limit your add in for a limit and same for the topping. I really enjoyed my lunch here. I went with one of their lunch specials, the Tokyo Combo, which was two classic rolls with miso soup or ginger salad for $13.00. Sometimes I feel like these deals actually skimp on the number of pieces or the amount of fish in each roll - but not here! I ordered the Negihama Roll which was hamachi, cucumber, and tempura onion, and the Spicy Tuna Roll which was spicy tuna, cucumber, and tempura flakes. The spicy tuna roll was delicious, but the negihama roll was amazing, and I will never be able to NOT have this roll anytime I visit. They also get bonus points for having the best salad of any sushi place I have been to. I will say I'm not a huge fan of their metal chopsticks, but that was the only negative. I was super excited to try Kelp tonight - the Waters location. I loved the menús with the pictures - super helpful which reminded me of Europe. My sushi roll was good but was let down a bit. The roll kept falling apart and the chop-sticks were no help. Fancy looking chopa but sluppery. The old are fine but get it...you want a nice vibe. I ordered a miso soup and was barely warm. They brought me a new warm one but it was the same. Who likes barely warm miso?- yuck!! I also tried the watermellin mojito - terrible - don't recommend. I Waited almost an hour for my waiter to get the bill. The hostess saw me frustrated and she cashed me out instead.
