I figured I'd update my review after living in Tampa for almost 10 years, my expectations may have dropped a bit and I rate sushi restaurants a little less harshly as I did when I first moved here from NY. I recently went here for lunch with the hubz. We ordered from the lunch menu, which was reasonably priced. Food was good for the price. Sushi rolls were OK. They have green tea in tea bags. Maybe it's just me, but I'm user to a tea pot of green tea when dine at Asian restaurants. The sushi here is so so good! I don't like the main dishes here but this is my go-to sushi place! I think the rolls are very fresh and they are super quick! I can make an order over the phone and it's ready in 15 mins! The workers here are nice as well. Part of me doesnt want to share how great this place is because it's so small and I need a table for me! But I love a successful small business so here we go. The windows are covered so it's dark and a little bit confusing[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. But be brave. Go inside. A lovely lady will greet you and, depending on how busy, ask you to pick a seat or will pick a table for you. There is a sushi bar with a gentlemen making the rolls fresh and in the back you can hear them making the delicious hot meals. I prefer going for lunch, mostly because its so near my office, but also because their lunch special is wonderful. I've never had a bad meal here, even the complimentary bowl of soup is delicious and full of flavor. There's lots of options to choose from if you're a sushi lover. Not into sushi? Don't panic! Stopped in for quick lunch before an appt. at a nearby optometrist. I was greeted quickly, and waved to sit down. The booths and tables were all occupied so I sat at the sushi bar. I ordered the Chicken Katsu Lunch Box, as it sounded good. Combination plate with some Tempura, Chicken Katsu, some slices of a basic sushi roll, a couple of gyoza and a ginger salad. Miso soup also. It was delivered quickly. Everything was good... the chicken katsu was a little overcooked maybe, and needed more katsu sauce... but it was good. Tempura was tasty, Miso soup was good, the tiny slices of sushi were yummy. I will be back as I want to try some of the rolls. I did ask the sushi chef if they had Toro, and he indicated they did not. Not sure if they were out of it, or just normally don't stock it since it is a higher end product. read more

I've said it before and I'll say it again, best sushi joint around. Popped in right after they opened to place a to go order and was greeted with waves from the chefs and a HUGE welcoming smile from the server. I asked to place a to go order and she sat me at a table to look over the menu. I placed my order of a Lobster roll, Mexican roll and spicy tuna roll and she threw in some miso soup. Ran over to Publix to grab something and when I came back everything was ready. When I got home I opened the very neatly organized bag to two soy sauces, 2 spicy mayos and 2 sets of chop sticks, one of which was set up for my 8 year old daughter to use rigged up with a rubber band and a spacer. I went to this place by mistake when I ordered in haste while waiting for a Sickles HS Baseball game to start. Ordered my food to go, when I walked in the manger snarky said "this is all for you?" 2 tuna rolls, a salmon roll, 2 pieces of eel nigiri and 2 pieces of shrimp nigiri Portions were good, quality was not. Hunks of tuna and fatty eel are not the most appetizing. Salmon and shrimp were solid. 3 stars is for speediness of order and portion size. Taste and the fish / rice / seaweed portion needs to be figure out. I HIGHLY recommend Saiyko Kitchen literally 1 mile down the street. read more

A very nice neighborhood sushi spot that is located in the strip center across from Sickles High on Gunn Hwy. A bonafide Sushi Chef deals out succulent dishes. Parking is a cinch, as they are at the other end of the Publix Plaza. We loved our rolls and the starter, a crunchy Tempura Shrimp. The star of our quick lunch was the Dragon Ball Roll. An eye pleasing layout with a very nice combination of flavors. Every roll 5 or 6 so far has been unique and delicious. The Salmon Belly sashimi was melt in your mouth delectable. They have some very reasonable lunch specials. The menu offers a large variety of items including some Korean dishes. Service is a yo-yo, up and down, be patient and keep your eyes on the prize, the food. You can not go wrong here. read more

I'm writing this review so future Christina knows what her family likes and dislikes. As we continue our Uber Eats kick (aka spending all the money we would have spent on daycare on takeout instead), we went two days in a row ordering dinner from Yoshi Sushi. Here's what I got and what our future order will be. Twice I got the lobster roll, the super rainbow roll, and a salmon roll. I'm disappointed they don't have salmon sashimi, but the salmon roll will do in a pinch. Next time I'll stick with the salmon roll and super rainbow roll (which really is an upgrade IMO of a normal rainbow roll), but I'm going to cut out the lobster roll. The sauce in that roll is a little too sweet for me. So, future Christina, try a different third roll. Brandon got the chicken teriyaki the first time, but he found it overcooked (which he thinks could just be a one time thing). However, the second time he got shrimp teriyaki and liked it better. Next time we order, I need to remind him of this. They do package the rolls in Styrofoam containers (the rolls don't take up the whole container, obviously), so if they fall to the side when in transit, your roll will look pretty ugly when it gets to you. It will still taste good, but you won't get that Instagram pic. read more

If I could just rate them for the food, it would be 0 stars. They get 1 star for good service. We got yakisoba (which had absolutely no flavor) and 2 sushi rolls (which were very blah) for takeout. All the vegetables & meat in the soba tasted like they'd been boiled before being tossed on a bed of bland noodles. The tempura sushi was similarly inedible. Ever since Takara sushi closed in New Tampa and so did Kaisen in Carrolwood, I've become a wandering sushi nomad. There are 2 reasons I tried Yoshi. 1) Yoshi is the name of splinter's master and I've been on a Ninja Turtles kick recently 2) Yelper Karen F. keeps going here , so it piqued my curiosity. Anyway, Yoshi is an unassuming (Stole this from Ryan's review) restaurant in a non descript (stole this from me) shopping plaza near the Bearss/Gunn highway intersection. It is directly across from Sickles High School The interior is mostly wood paneling and the dining space is small. Their server was very quick and nice but probably because it was late afternoon and there was only one other party besides me. I usually order spicy tuna and two other rolls when I eat sushi. If you can't get spicy Tuna right, you should pack up. Thankfully, their ST was fresh and actually spicy. Too many ST in restaurants is bland. Takara and Yoshi have good ST. I also ordered Sexy Cowboy, and Yummy Yummy. Cowboy had a big steak piece embedded in it each piece and yummy squared was on the sweet side but had a distinctive taste. Bonus, both were only $9 each. These three rolls were served on a wooden boat with an umbrella stuck in the wasabi, which was very cute and creative. IIRC each order comes out in a boat. 4/5 All three were fresh and flavorful. Probably one of the better sushi places for these prices and not too far from my area. I cant say it is the best I've ever had(Toro Sushi in Chicago) but I think it is my candidate for new regular joint. Worth checking out for Carrolwood/Citrus Park/North Tampa folks! read more

If you haven't been here in awhile, it's time to come back! I came in for a late lunch on a Friday and had a delicious meal. They offer some great lunch specials, so I tried their combo of sushi and sashimi, which also came with choice of California roll or spicy tuna roll, plus soup or salad. I opted for salad, which was just bagged lettuce with ginger dressing, but it was fine. I also chose the spicy tuna roll, which was excellent; more tuna than rice, which I love. Presentation was beautiful, and both the sushi and sashimi were cut into surprisingly generous pieces. Everything tasted very fresh and it was all quite flavorful. Altogether, it was a much better experience than when I had visited several years ago, when it was under different management, and vowed never to return. It's a small place, located in a strip mall, but has plenty of tables, plus sushi bar seating. The one waitress was quick, efficient and friendly, and I can't wait to try their two roll lunch special. read more

Small, yet inviting mom-and-pop sushi joint. The menu items are made fresh to order, and there is only two people working at a time. Fresh, appetisingly good food on the menu. Don't be in hurry. I recommend the Yummy Chicken entree, Spicy Tuna, or Spicy Crab rolls. The spice is just enough to give these two a kick, but not overly spicy for the novice sushi eater. My only complaint is the tempura batter (used in entrees and sushi classic rolls)....Seems a little bitter at times. There were 5 in our party everyone ordered sushi and loved it. However I made the mistake of ordering, "Stir Fry Vegetables". My dinner came with soup and salad- the "Stir Fried Vegetables" had less than a tablespoon of veggies the main component were noodles with and a cup of white rice on the plate. I was shocked immediately but did not say a thing because everyone had spoked highly of this place in our group. It was the worst dinner I can remember having out. Lesson learned if you go to a sushi place order sushi . I have visited other Sushi places with friends who enjoy sushi and not gotten the worst meal of my life. Super solid sushi spot. I found one that I would return to! Not much to look at from the outside but the inside is super cozy, clean, and decorated nicely. I wanted to order everything on the menu but settled for a big boat of different pieces of sushi. It was fresh and tasty. I was there around 4pm in a Monday and the phone kept ringing and people kept coming in steadily. It seems popular. I would like to go back for lunch 11a-3pm as the prices are a lot more reasonable during this time. They have a you pick two roll lunch special for 9.95. Really really good sushi. I visited for a takeout and was in and out in about 10 mins. There is something comfy about the interior. Small and quaint, comfortable and inviting. The staff is super friendly and inviting. I enjoyed the lunch special with a choice of 2 rolls and soup or salad for $9.95. Good deal! The sushi was delicious. I ordered both rolls without eel sauce. Todd's special and spicy salmon. Generous portions of fish, heavy on the sauces, this could go one way or the other. The rolls were nicely rolled, a bit loose but they weren't falling apart by any means. The miso soup was served perfectly piping hot. The flavor is what you would expect. The only con I would say is the quality of the takeout boxes and chopsticks. Very low quality but I'll take low quality takeout paper products all day just to get that delicious sushi all day. read more

Our server even saw that my niece was cold and brought a hot cup of water to either drink or warm her hands on. Served lots of food that a doggie bag was necessary.
