I was looking for a good local buffet yesterday, and I decided to check this place out. The young man at the counter seemed very helpful and friendly, and I was quickly checked out and got to a table within just a few minutes. They had a pretty good selection of food, and it all tasted fresh. I had things like fried chicken, spaghetti, corn, Black Eyed Peas, meatloaf, baked ziti. Their desserts were excellent though, and well worth picking up: especially the banana cream pudding and soft serve vanilla ice cream, which I quickly became addicted to. My husband and I grew up in areas that had Duff's Smorgasbord restaurants. They were very good back then (70's and 80's) but they eventually closed. After finding this place here in Florida, we were very excited to see if it was the same Duff's we knew and loved years ago. Excited to find out that it was, we headed that way one afternoon. We arrived less than 15 minutes after opening time and the line was backed out the door. By the time we got in we could see the place was packed! But it was so worth the wait. This buffet is not like most others. All kinds of delicious bites. Everything we tried was top notch. The waitress was rarely around but it is a buffet so we only needed her for drinks anyway. Came here with some friends for lunch. We were shown to our seats. There are discounts for Senior Citizens. Our server, Didi, was very professional and friendly. The food is decent, nothing to rave about, just standard buffet fare. It's fine for a quick lunch, but I wouldn't recommend it for dinner. The selection is okay, though not overly impressive. The salad is actually pretty good, though! As for the desserts, they look great but don't taste as good as they appear. The chocolate lava cake is especially disappointing. The only dessert I really enjoyed was the ice cream. The server held up My receipt and said I couldn't sit there and moved me to another table! By the way, it was crusty dirty. After 5 minutes sitting there with my food, I had to ask for my drinks. Server never refilled glass with a drink and took my plate and silverware. Didn't ask if I wanted more silverware so I could get more to eat had I wanted any. We stumbled upon this adorable buffet for lunch, at $14 a person you are definitely getting a bang for your buck! My favorites were the chicken pot pie soup, the crab cakes and the homemade Ceaser Salad. I also was impressed at the service, our server refilled our tea 5 times! A couple of years ago this buffet opened in Clearwater Florida in a small strip mall. It has become a place I visit when in the area. Its consistently good loosely based on home cooking. The buffet is pretty extensive from salad bar to dessert. On my recent visit I had fried chicken livers. Nicely seasoned and cooked to perfection; its an acquired taste. I had the Ceaser salad from the bar, pretty simple. I tried the baked pasta dish. Nothing to brag about, it passed, that's about it. I tried the fried fish. It was too much and had no consistency to it, and was pretty bland. I also tried the fried green tomatoes. They too were more on the unseasoned side. Had spiced apples for dessert, overcooked and no flavor. Considering the fact that the food is on a steam table for quite a while. They always have a carved meat, but looks more like a carved loaf. Overall the food is OK, but nothing to really outstanding. They have a wide section of salads and desserts, as well as potatoes and vegetables. I will say its hard to keep items fresh on a buffet, but the seasoning needs to be adjusted. The service is always great. We have either Zak or Dee Dee wait on us. They are friendly and attentive. Even though the baby is still on formula and pureed food, the lady at the front was still adamant about charging us $2 for a 10 month old baby. Pretty ridiculous considering our baby slept the entire time. The lady at the front said, "well, she's still going to drink water." I told the lady, "the baby is on formula and puréed food, and her response was, "well, it's only $2." Whatever. Even Disney World doesn't charge for children 3 yrs and under. The food was decent, nothing to write home about. I'd equate it to a buffet style Perkins with fewer options than Golden Corral. Would we return? I have been eating at Duff's for a few years now and for whatever reason I am just getting around to writing a review... Duff's is a traditional, American style buffet. Usual staples are carved ham, roast beef and turkey. They also have ribs, fish, GOOD fried chicken, corned beef, goulash, spaghetti, stuffed green peppers, Mexican food on Thursday, and on and on! All of the expected side dishes: mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, sweet potatoes, and so on. The menu changes throughout the week. Duff's has a nice salad bar and soup station along with several different desserts and ice cream. Duff's is a nice family-friendly restaurant that treats their customers right. They play traditional 1950s and 60s Musak in the background- and that's fine with me. Sometimes they get a little busy, but that's because everybody likes their food! The salad bar is fresh, but nondescript with fairly limited choices . But if you came for anything hot, don't. Pre-processed tasteless, swill in gain vats. Everything taste like reheated frozen food anything that should be for deep-fried is not it's been baked. The french fries were flavorless. If you have no teeth, you'll appreciate the textures.
