Established in 1890, Timberlakes Drug Store is a family-owned pharmacy and soda fountain located…read moreright off the Charlottesville downtown mall. The drug store is in the front and offers everything a typical pharmacy would sell only more old-timey. I felt like I was on the set of "Now and Then" or some other nostalgia era themed movie. Keep going and you'll hit the restaurant portion of the store which sells a variety of housemade soups, chili, sandwiches, lemonades, and more. The kiddos loved taking a seat at the long bar and ordering their milkshakes and the counter person was as nice as can be. My husband had a hankering for their homemade chili and thought it was delicious. It was a fond bonding moment for everyone!

You'd think with an entire chalkboard dedicated to pastrami sandwiches they would have a decent reuben. Not even close. The reuben was literally drenched in cheap plastic-bottled thousand island sauce (that salad dressing they sell at grocery stores). The meat was old. Sandwich was nothing short of disgusting. My mac salad just tasted like macaroni mixed in mayonnaise, although by comparison with the wet microwaved sandwich the mac salad was better. I also tried their egg cream soda, but as the photo shows, the waitress could not even be bothered to mix it: so it was chocolate syrup underneath a cup full of soda water, and thats it, which was hard to stir with a plastic straw. Service was bad too. Waitress took forever, never checked on us, spent a lot of time hanging out with the chef, and spoke negatively about customers right in front of them while talking to the chef. And the chef took an insane amount of time: over half an hour to make (including both my group and people ahead of us) less than ten simple, disgusting sandwiches. Worst meal I've had in years.

Their communication about this is non existent. I have had my prescription sent in and then waited and waited for them to text and let us know it's ready with no word from them. Only after getting close or completely running out of meds have I called and asked and they will tell you. The lack of proactive communication about this is so frustrating because there is often some step that I need to take that could've been communicated to me earlier. The pharmacy is one of the best, but if you don't hear from them, prepare to call and ask.

Of course this varies depending on your insurance or medication type. You can check this on an app to compare costs (can't remember the name). The wait time is usually 2-3 days once they receive the prescription which is not the shortest time but it's certainly not the worst either. UVA pharmacy at the main hospital does same-day fills, just get ready to wait in a line that'll take an hour. The actual lines at wegmans can take anywhere from 0-30 mins. Not bad. Unfortunately this Walgreens is never stocked and never answers my phone calls at the pharmacy…read more Also, the prescriptions are always way later to be filled than they're supposed to be. The drive through line takes a long time but that's normal with Walgreens prescription pickup. I'm sure the pharmacists are doing their best considering the long lines but inside takes a long time too. They are swamped in the pharmacy and don't seem to have many other regular shoppers since so many of their shelves are empty.

However, what is absolute worst is the service. The employees from the store and the pharmacy have zero desire of working there and it shows. Snappy, eye rolling, rude, hang ups when calling over the phone if you finally get them to answer their phones. An employee named Tracy, every-time she is at the register is rude, not a hello nor a good morning just gives your total with a miserable face. I can't forget to mention an employee that I was informed his name was David at the pharmacy, cause he refused to give me his name when asked. Seems he doesn't wear his name tag, if that was his actual name, he is a person with such a terrible condescending attitude when you inquire about your medications etc. They only get business because there are only 2 Walgreens in the city and they are far apart. I'm happy I moved from Charlottesville and get to visit a different Walgreens in my new city where they do know what customer service is all about. Save yourself a headache and visit a CVS while in Charlottesville.
