I went here with high hopes after reading the glowing reviews. I live not far away, so the thought of a great authentic, local kebab place got me excited. My girlfriend and I went at lunchtime and ordered two chicken kebabs. They looked amazing and they actually included tabbouleh for free. The chicken looked beautifully seared, not like your shavings from a slab of mystery meat. I decided to get some vanilla slice and Turkish delight because it appeared to be home made and looked incredible.
As we drove home, my girlfriend was pretty quiet while eating. "How's your kebab?" I asked. "Ok I guess, maybe I should have got a different sauce or something". Hmmm.
So I get home and start munching. The chicken tasted identical to tuna. Don't ask how, I don't know, it just did. The veges were pretty gross, tabbouleh tasted of parsley and nothing else. The sauce appeared to be nonexistent. It was literally the worst kebab I have eaten in years. I couldn't finish all of it. Into the bin it went. "Oh well, at least I have my vanilla slice"...Only that was pretty bad as well. The custard tasted like scrambled egg. Finally I picked up my big piece of Turkish delight and bit into it, only to have it nearly break my teeth off. I couldn't bite through it, it was tough, chewy, unpleasantly flavoured and appeared to have bits of stem or something in it that forced itself under my gum. I spat it out.
So after half a tuna kebab, some average vanilla slice and biting into something with the texture and taste of an unripe granny smith apple masquerading as Turkish delight, needless to say I didn't feel like I got value for money.
Look, I hate complaining about food. I think the owners were doing their best despite being a little brusque. They seemed busy and a lot of people were buying burgers which looked really nice. But that was one of the worst meals I have had in a long time and I felt like I needed to provide some balance to the reviews here. Maybe I hit them on a bad day but that was a disgusting waste of money.
I started writing this immediately after eating by the way.
If you do want to try this shop, then I recommend starting off with one of their smaller items and seeing if you like it before splashing out 30 bucks like I did. read more
