Succotash is one of those places where everyone at the table starts reaching across to sample…read moreeveryone else's food because everything coming out of the kitchen looks and tastes that good. The Hot Honey Chicken special with pimento cheese was an easy 10/10. The fried green tomatoes were another standout, sliced to the perfect thickness with a great crunch. The beans and rice were packed with flavor, and the fried chicken was excellent. Even the Thai Chili BBQ deserves a mention; it's a must-try, just don't let the name fool you because the heat sneaks up on you. Add in the unique artwork and atmosphere, plus the great service, and you've got a restaurant that's worth a detour if you're driving through Durham. I'll definitely be back.

While the food was good, it didn't knock my socks off. And they're definitely more of a creole restaurant than a southern one. There are better cajun/Creole restaurants in the RTP area. I was going to order the creole gumbo, but found out when I came in that it was a seafood gumbo today not their regular one. Oh well. So I ordered jambalaya with a side of red beans and rice. Both were good but a little dry and I've had better nearby. The fresh catch of the Day was Amber Jack, and I love that fish, so maybe I should've ordered that in a Poboy. Might come back to try some of their other offerings.

I started with a Cajun Martini made with jalapeño-infused vodka, and it was exactly what I hoped it would be. It did not taste artificially jalapeño-flavored; it had a real kick and just the right amount of heat. We started with the Crawfish Rangoon Dip, and honestly, I could have made a meal out of it. I have had Rangoon dips before, but this one was especially smooth and full of flavor. If I had been at home, I probably would have been tempted to run my finger around the bowl to get every last bit. For my entrée, I had the Shrimp Étouffée. Others at the table ordered the Duck Jambalaya, Shrimp and Grits, and Gumbo Yaya. My dish seemed to get better with every bite. The Creole stew was rich and deeply flavorful without being over the top. I was especially glad our waitress suggested adding a side of garlic bread to mop up the sauce. Even the garlic bread stood out, toasted on the grill with a slightly smoky flavor. It felt like real attention had been paid to every detail. We all tried each other's dishes, and I would happily go back and order any one of them. The banana pudding at the end of the meal was just as good. It had a strong banana flavor and was not overly sweet. Our servers were friendly and attentive, and the meal moved at a relaxed pace. We never felt rushed. My only complaint was the noise level. The restaurant has a tiled ceiling, and it got loud enough that at times, it was difficult to hear people on the other side of the table. Even with that, I would go back to Blue Denim!

It was a little confusing finding the restaurant and the hosts kindly walked me through how to get there. I sat at the bar and the bartenders were very attentive. They frequently checked in and made sure my water never got too low. I got the broiled oysters drogos style and they were AMAZING. There was so much parmesan cheese and the garlic butter was so good I could almost drink it. I just wish I got more bread so I could enjoy the cheese and butter more. Not that it matters too much but I was expecting charbroiled oysters on the half shell like in New Orleans, but these oysters come already shucked without the shell. The NC Catfish on the other hand was good, but not great. The catfish was crispy. The beans, rice, and pork were perfectly cooked. However, the meal tasted very bland and underseasoned, which was so surprising for a New Orleans inspired restaurant, and the pork portion was extremely small

We started with 3 dozen Daily Happy Oysters, which at $9 per half dozen. The Southern Salt oysters were incredibly briny. I don't mind a salty oyster, but these crossed into overwhelmingly salty territory and masked some of the nuanced flavors I usually look for. The snacks, however, were absolutely spot on. The Crawfish Hushpuppies arrived piping hot with a crisp exterior and tender center, loaded with crawfish flavor. The Crispy Frog Legs were equally impressive--perfectly fried, wonderfully seasoned with tom yum spice and vadouvan, and paired with a Vietnamese mayo that tied everything together beautifully. To wash it all down, we enjoyed a few beers, including a crisp pilsner, a refreshing wheat beer, and a local IPA that paired nicely with the oysters and fried snacks. Service deserves a special mention. The staff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable without being overbearing. They kept the oyster trays moving and made sure drinks never sat empty for long. Overall, St. Roch delivers a fun oyster bar experience with happy hour pricing, creative snacks, and top-notch service. If the Southern Salt oysters had been a little more balanced, this would have easily been a 5-star visit.

They crack those oysters there and then. Lots of fresh oyster liquor. Not some dried up tasteless oyster. I never once considered waffle fries with tartar sauce. Now, it's almost an addiction. We ordered: - 4 grilled oysters - a dozen raw oysters - shrimp po boy (with generous portions of shrimp) - some huge fish, maybe snapper? - kale salad Everything about this place is so fresh. You never have to wonder how long it's sat there or if there has been enough patrons to keep the supply fresh. You know at Locals that everything is always on point.
