The menu was easy to understand and had all the expected items. I wanted to try a little of everything so I got a "jumbo" 8 piece with 2 sides, and 2 desserts (how can you NOT get sweet potato pie when you have the chance?). I got combo light and dark chicken. Took it to go so can't say a heck of a lot about the inside. It's bright and tidy. For me, this was like eating at my mom's house. Maybe for some folks it's not flashy enough or greasy enough or something. For me, it was perfect. Like literally zero transition from eating my mom's food to eating this. Which I think is amazing. Generous pieces of chicken. Lovely biscuits. The potatoes and gravy is more my spouse's thing - I found it to be "okay." On the other hand, the mac & cheese is MY thing and this mac & cheese is, to me, perfect. It's not overdone, it doesn't stick together too much, the flavor is balanced - loved it. Waiting for my stomach to be less full and then it will be time for dessert!

I'm trading indifferent service for incompetent service. Not exactly an upgrade. The product isn't as consistently good and portions vary slightly. Chicken strips covered seasoning batter, salty, but chicken was not dry and tasted good. The ranch dip, there is nothing special. I do like the fries. There are many tables inside with paper towel. Whatever sauce they had on the bottom had a nice kick, just wish there was more of it. And for $12 it's way more expensive than another nearby chicken place in Renton. And if you make it a "meal" for $3-5 more it doesn't even include a drink. Service was very helpful and welcoming, I appreciate them taking the time to explain the menu. The music they had playing in the background wasn't too bad, but the acoustics magnify every conversation so it can get quite loud.

I first scooped into the baked beans and immediately said to my wife 'these beans are good.' Flavor packed. The ribs could fall apart more but they were juicy and tender. Rhodie's features several types of sandwiches, a few platter options and a couple of combos. You can also order meats by the pound with the choices being beef brisket, chicken, ribs, pulled pork and hot links. We decided to share the SMOKIN' COMBO ($55) which included ribs, two quarter chickens and two hotlinks with our choice of two large sides. There are three options for sauce: mild, spicy and extra spicy. We went with the spicy sauce after the employee described it as being "middle of the road" in terms of heat. After we had placed our order at the counter, the employee brought over our food in less than 10 minutes, which was surprisingly quick. They must have all the meat prepared, so they just cut the pieces, slather on the sauce and scoop up the sides. When I say they slathered on the sauce, I am not exaggerating - just see the photo. All the meat came on a single plate and the sauce completely covered everything, with plenty of it also pooled at the bottom. Had we known, we would have requested the sauce on the side. It had a moderate kick of spice, but it was tolerable and not the kind that numbs your tastebuds. I loved the chicken which included two drumsticks and two thighs. The meat was perfect - succulent, juicy and fell off the bone. The ribs were very meaty and although the menu said the combo would come with four ribs, they actually put six on our plate; four large ones and two smaller ones. They had a nice smokiness to them and most of the meat was tender, with just some small spots of dryness. Finally, the hotlinks were plump and hefty with a good snap to the casing. Flavor-wise, I thought they were okay, but had they not come as part of the combo, I probably wouldn't have ordered them separately. We selected the coleslaw and baked beans as our sides, which they had scooped into plastic containers. Even though the coleslaw was basic with just cabbage and dressing, I really enjoyed it. The cabbage was super crunchy and fresh while the dressing was relatively light with an addicting seasoning. It was just right. The baked beans were average...sweet with some chunks of bacon cooked into the sauce. We managed to polish off the entire combo and were happily full by the end of it. When you have a carnivorous calling, it's worth stopping by Rhodie's!

Everyone I saw walk out, had that white bag in hand which indicated they were coming out with hot food. Inside it's your typical gas station setting and the food is up front by the cashier. You get in line to go to the cashier and order there. We ordered wing, thigh and leg. And we also ordered two pieces of catfish and 1/2 lb of jojos. I was upset about the chicken. Every single person that gassed this place up has never had good fried chicken in their life. It lacked seasoning and was soooooo dry. Literally choking down bites of a chicken leg to go down. Thank goodness I purchased an ice tea to drink, or I would have been in serious trouble. The thigh was just just as dry. For dark meat to be this dry, I couldn't even begin to comprehend how overcooked it was. As dry as it was - you would expect it to be burnt on the outside. But the saving grace was the catfish. For the price point, it delivered on all expectations. On our visit it was $8.99/lb. The catfish was everything the chicken was not. It was hot, fresh, flaky and seasoned so well. We would definitely come back for the catfish. But that's it. Even the jojos were subpar. They sell little containers of bbq sauce and ranch for $0.50 each but they should only be $.10. They hardly have any sauce on the inside. So even though the chicken is like a negative two, the fried catfish delivered above our expectations so I'll give it a three overall. To Note: we ate our food immediately in the car in the parking lot.

I stopped in about 30 mins after they opened on a friday and they had a lunch rush, everything is cooked to order so be prepared to wait at least 20mins. I ordered the 6oz catfish and chips which came with 3 catfish strips, fries, 1 hush puppy, chips and a drink ($16.99) I also got a side of mac&cheese. The positives: staff was kind, pastor at the counter would make jokes with customers and you could tell they had regulars during lunch time. Fries were well seasoned, hush puppy was good and Mac was acceptable. My only issue with the catfish was that it was overcooked and became a bit chewy (see photo). Sitting in there it seems like the wings were a customer favorite so I would love to go back and try their wings and other sides. Since my order took longer (there was a large order right before mines) the pastor at the counter thanked me for my patience and threw in a dessert.

The cabbage here was everything I could ever ask for. I wanted more when I was done. The Mac & cheese didn't look like much to me but man did it serve on tastes. It was cheesy, seasoned and cooked just right. The fried chicken was cooked fresh and seasoned to perfection. My breast was still juicy and piping hot. Call ahead for to go orders or you'll spend your time waiting for the chicken to be fried. The peach cobbler here is not my preferred way to have as I like a pie crust with mine but oh my goodness, I took one bite and couldn't stop savoring this dessert. Do yourself and get you some. This place is everything and more that I could ever ask for when it comes to good ole soul food.
