I never mind waiting 10-15 minutes for freshly cooked chicken, and neither should you. I got the wings shareable combo that come with fries and a soda/water. The fries are your typical seasoned crinkle cut fries, but the wings are perfection. 10 wings battered with a mild-spice seasoning and fried to perfection-- never over cooked in my 3 experiences so far. I also got the nuggets shareable just to try the boneless chicken option. One bite took me back to my childhood. These nuggets are honestly NYC restaurant quality but with a slightly southern flavor to the seasoning.

They have always been a little stingy with the rice - which is a shame, but last night the rice was almost nonexistent! And don't get me started on the biscuits... they are smaller than they used to be and there was too much butter on them - which made them taste greasy. I guess I better get out my large pot and remember how to make red beans and rice myself because Popeyes isn't what it used to be. And that's just a shame.

Fun backstory: years ago when I worked in international arrivals for Continental Airlines in Houston, flights coming in from Central America would regularly have passengers traveling with bags full of Pollo Campero. It was that serious. (And yes... we had to confiscate and destroy it. Painful.) That's how you know it's good. Originating in Guatemala, this chicken has a flavor profile that just hits differently--crispy, juicy, perfectly seasoned. It stands in a league of its own. Pair it with: * Arepas * Sweet plantains * And if you've got room, flan or churros And you've got a full-on comfort meal. Let me be clear: this is not your typical fast-food chicken. It easily outshines KFC, Popeyes, Church's Chicken, and Bojangles in flavor and uniqueness. Bottom line: if you see a Pollo Campero, stop and try it. You'll get it the moment you take that first bite. Get out there, Charlotte--and eat up.
