Pollo Campero is pure nostalgia for me--and still one of the best fried chicken experiences out there. Fun backstory: years ago when I worked in international arrivals for Continental Airlines in Houston, flights coming in from Central America would regularly have passengers traveling with bags full of Pollo Campero. It was that serious. (And yes... we had to confiscate and destroy it. Painful.) That's how you know it's good. Originating in Guatemala, this chicken has a flavor profile that just hits differently--crispy, juicy, perfectly seasoned. It stands in a league of its own. Pair it with: * Arepas * Sweet plantains * And if you've got room, flan or churros And you've got a full-on comfort meal. Let me be clear: this is not your typical fast-food chicken. It easily outshines KFC, Popeyes, Church's Chicken, and Bojangles in flavor and uniqueness. Bottom line: if you see a Pollo Campero, stop and try it. You'll get it the moment you take that first bite. Get out there, Charlotte--and eat up. read more

EVERYTHING!!!!! I enjoyed everything about this place. The food was delicious but the service was outstanding. Food was served on an actual plate with silverware. Someone even came to check on you and clean up for you. Simple things are amazing these days! read more

The food is delicious! Very excellent and the service is amazing! For me it's far superior to American chicken places. Yum!

This is my daughter's favorite restaurant. She literally can eat here everyday. For me the food is ok and a little on the pricey side. I have never eaten inside of the restaurant. We always pick it up to go. Sometimes service can be a little slow but overall its a good place to feed your family. read more

I made the terrible mistake of placing an online order on a Sunday during lunch time. At least, that's what I'm going to say is the reason for my experience. Upon placing my order it said the food will be ready for pickup in 15 minutes. I arrived at the restaurant 15 minutes later and there was a long line to order but I went to the other side where people were picking up their orders as their names were called. After about 5 minutes I went up and asked if my name had already been called, it hadn't. I waited another 15 minutes and everyone in line had their names called and orders given to them. After another 10 minutes I went back up and asked if my order was ready. After going to the back, I was told by the worker that it should be another 5 minutes. After another 15 minutes and there being no line to pick up food I went up again and asked another worker for the status. After 5 more minutes I was finally given my food. At this point I could have just ordered at the restaurant and left 30 minutes prior since I was only getting a chicken sandwich meal for one and multiple families had order 20 piece chicken meals and were long gone. The food itself was ok. The fries remind me of McDonalds fries but with a little less salt and pretty soggy. The box of fries were also barely filled so it wasn't that many in there. The spicy chicken sandwich was ok as well but most of the flavor comes from the spicy sauce on it. Also, I requested lettuce but there wasn't any on there. Maybe I just had a bad first experience. I'm willing to try out another location and other items on the menu before completely saying no to Apollo Camp read more

Fave thing I had was the horchata drink. I love those and to see it's free refills is awesome because most places that serve it don't offer that. The food was just ok for me. I got the 3pc with side of rice. The rice was good, chicken was just average for me. Didn't get a wow factor. But service was good and the place was very clean. read more

Pretty good food at this location. The chicken and beans are really good. service is quick and I would return

This place is amazing!! It doesn't look like much from the outside honestly, it looked like a random lowkey fast food spot on the east side of Charlotte. However, we had already found this place on yelp and it looked good so we knew we had to try it. To start off, the food is so cheap and affordable. For the amount of the food they give and the quality and taste of it, I think this place deserves to raise its prices. The grilled and fried chicken is sooo juicy and flavorful, and the yuca fries are now my favorite of the ones I've had from other restaurants. My personal favorite side was the corn salad, which was corn, peppers, tomatoes, and feta cheese mixed with a delicious dressing. The rice and plantains were great too. We got 8 pieces of chicken (half grilled, half fried), yuca fries, rice, corn salad, and plantains all for only $30. I will definitely be coming back to this place. read more

I've only tried the chicken here, both fried and grilled. Both are good, but I prefer the fried. The flavoring/seasoning is excellent. They have other items on their menu, but so far I've only ordered the chicken because it's just that good. read more

We went in and tried both grilled and deep fried chicken. Not very good and probably the worst coleslaw I have ever tried.

I've heard many good things about this place so I was excited to try it. I had a group of 4 young ladies withe and we were all hungry! We offered 3 orders of the 3-piece empanadas, a 4-peice meal, and sides included salad, fries, rice, plantains, tortillas, rice and beans, and corn salad. The food was absolutely delicious. It was full of flavor very filling, and well priced. My ONLY issue was that it took so long. I thought it was because I was Hungry, but no i looked at my reciept and it took 24 minutes for me to get my food. No Bueno. But the food was good and I would eat there again. We were too hungry to take picture lol read more

the food was delicious! i ordered the 8 piece meal with fries and mac and cheese as the sides, the mac and cheese was very cheesy and the fries were thin and had a good taste the service was good also a little bit of a wait but overall okay. the ambience was calm even though i went at 10 at night overall it was a good experience for my first time! read more

I've been meaning to visit a Pollo Campero since they arrived in Charlotte a year or two ago. I hate that I waited so long because they are cranking out some amazing Latin food! On my first visit, we went a little crazy. I had the empanada trio and am still dreaming about those delicious dough pockets of goodness. I got one of each of the chicken fillings offered -- buffalo, verde, and chipotle. They were all amazing but verde was my favorite, hands down. Full of flavor and fresh herbs. Yum!! As if that wasn't enough food, the empanadas come with a side. I went with yucca because, well, I love yucca. Insider tip... skip the red campero sauce it comes with and ask for the green sauce (cilantro lime) instead. Ted ordered the 4-piece chicken meal that came with two sides. We got a mix of fried and citrus grilled chicken. As good as the fried was (and that's what they're known for) I actually liked the grilled better. Ted picked fries and plantains for his sides. The fries weren't anything special. But, I loved, loved, loved the plantains! I ate most of them, truth be told. I can't wait to go back to try out some of the other menu items like the chicken bowls and intriguing sides like the street corn salad and campero rice & beans. Oh! And the aguas frescas! read more

I still haven't heard back from this location regarding my feedback. This is the second time i place a order and the accuracy of my order was incorrect. My first visit I ordered a family size order and was missing 3 pieces of chicken and I paid extra for all white meat and I did not get that. I did not get my family size sides and when they attempted to correct the order I was still missing 1 piece of meat. On this visit I ordered two, two piece white meat friend and got all dark meat. When i showed the gentleman what I ordered compared to what I got he said i was only missing a wing he would gladly give it to me but i had to remind him it was a thigh and a leg that i received and it was suppose to be a breast and a wing. He brought out the correct pieces but I wasnt the only one with errors in their orders. When I previously visited the general manager offered to give me a family meal complementary for the many inconveniences, but it seems like this is an ongoing issue. And also, I never got that complementary family meal! Highly disappointed especially since I have my employer , employees, family , and friends eat here. read more

Food is pretty tasty & well seasoned. A bit pricey for your average chicken dinner. Carry out can be confusing & the wait is too long especially when you have placed an order in advance. The staff is friendly. read more

First time here , and I'll be back ... I would like to try the fried chicken vs the grilled . First, the cashier was about to make this review 3 stars , she wasn't feeling being upfront answering questions or being patient . Then the speaking Spanish and laughing while we are up there wasn't necessary. Thank your colleagues for displaying a cheerful and much better demeanor . Secondly, the food: We ordered the family meal with 3 sides, although it took 20 minutes to get most of our chicken , it was worth the wait . 12 piece citrus grilled chicken : YUM ! Cole slaw- pass... no flavor , and had green bell peppers in it (mortified) Rice - Delicious! Plantains- Oh yeah , get these ! Rolls- What were you thinking? Make some fresh ones . These were sad , store bought cheap rolls. Not even warm. All in all, a nice fast service chicken spot with a bit of a Spanish twist . read more

I always enjoy my food at Pollo Campero. Great Latin American flavors at a reasonable price. Their grilled (or roasted??) chicken is every bit as good as their fried, maybe a little better. If you dine in the restaurant, after ordering at the register they bring the food out to your table. I've observed that the dining area is always very clean. I haven't ever seen food all over the floor or on the tables like in some restaurants. If you want good Spanish food at a reasonable price you'll enjoy Pollo Campero. read more

My husband ordered a 4 Piece Fried chicken meal and a chicken breast salad from here using their app and when doordash showed up, they just handed us the 4 Piece Fried Meal. The driver said this was all he was given when I asked about it. My husband called the store and they wouldn't refund our money for the salad but instead said we could come down and pick it up. We had just gotten back from driving all day. My husband said as much and the woman just said we could come back another day. We're exhausted and out 10$ and I don't have anything to eat. read more

Food was mediocre, waited over 45 minutes for an online order. Service was subpar to say the least as I watched about 7 crew members stand around/ laughing. The communication to guests about the wait on fresh food was not there. Telling customers this would have been helpful in their case as I watched many other customers express their irritation on how long they had to wait and the employees brushed them off. Communication on them not having items available after placing orders would have nice too. Ambiance was ok; the facility just lacked cleanliness at the time of my visit. Overall, ok spot as it is conveniently located near my residence. May visit again but not anytime soon. read more

This place stated out in Guatemala with a prized chicken recipe and boy are they good. My father was from Guatemala and I lived down there for a few months as a small child and I got addicted to the empanadas. Which are different from all others. The crust is light and flaky and the filling is just right. They shred the chicken and put it in here. I got the buffalo one which have a full jalapeño inside. The rice was well seasoned and the beans were perfect. It was a real taste of my childhood and as luck would have it they are building a second location down on South Blvd. read more

Pollo Campero is our go-to spot for takeout on the East Side. We LOVE both their fried and grilled chicken options (both are super flavorful and juicy), and they have an awesome selection of sides (the corn with pepitas/peppers/feta rocks my world). Awesome prices too, and you can get some great deals and savings on their app. Will always be loyal to Pollo Campero! read more

In my opinion, thought the chicken was greasy and definitely salty. Good taste even with these two issues

First time here and I was pleased. Their grilled chicken is flavorful and the fried chicken has a good crunch with it. I tried Pollo Campero for the first time today. I never noticed them when I visit Compare across the street, I'm thrilled I found them today. I ordered the 8 piece Camperitos meal with Campero rice and fried yuca. Camperitos are boneless white meat crispy bites, a little larger than nuggets. They weren't dry, which was a concern for me when I ordered them. They were crispy as advertised, but not oily or greasy. The rice was delish, a healthy portion with cilantro, roasted corn and onions. The yuca was perfectly fried, again not greasy. I'm looking forward to returning to try the fried chicken that most people ordered. Totally yummy. I took 1 star of for the condition of the restroom. Totally gross. Considering the constant cleaning of the tables and floor I saw the staff doing, someone should venture into the restrooms once in a while. read more

This place is amazing!!! Delicious and authentic... Everyone working here is Spanish-speaking... No fakery here. The flavors are bold, rich and colorful... I was overwhelmed with the menu because I simply couldn't try everything. I ordered the Half Chicken special which includes both grilled and fried Peruvian chicken and choice of two sides (plantains and beans). I also ordered one empanada which comes with shredded chicken and your choice of sauce... I picked the Guava BBQ which was delicious. The other choices are Latin Buffalo (spicy) and Peruvian Verde (house). I also tried a fried chicken bowl which is their Campero rice, black beans and roasted corn topped with Rajas (thin fried corn tortilla strips). They serve Horchata, guava juice and Tamarindo to drink or Pepsi products! The atmosphere is warm and inviting as are the staff. I will definitely be back! read more

Wow! I am not sure I can enough good things about this place. A parent from our school treated the employees for Teacher Appreciation Week. It was amazing. My husband and I decided to visit the location. They were super friendly, the food was amazing, the restaurant was clean, and we got our food very quickly. we decided to try the grilled chicken, which many restaurants make pretty dry. that was not the case. it was wonderful and moist. The flavor was superb. We traveled 51 minutes to get here and would do it again. Also, the mango juice was delicious read more

This review is mostly about their empanada's. I ordered two flavors, the buffalo chicken and the verde chicken one. After having tried empanadas for the first time by a caterer who was Dominican, I must have been spoiled because these tasted nothing like the fresh ones I had before. I actually ended up throwing them away because I could not eat them. It may just be my palate, but I did not like the flavor of the ingredients they included and the dipping sauce did not compliment the flavors at all. I did give them two stars, because I got one piece of free fried chicken and that was pretty good. If I came back to this place, it would only be for their chicken. Another note of improvement is their ordering process. I ended up getting my food after someone who had ordered after me. I was just one person and the family after me had 3 people in their party. read more
