I am particularly impressed with how the caregivers and teachers take a genuine interest in the progress and lives of each of the children in their class. Whenever I've had questions, the Orchards Director has been easy to reach and prompt in her responses. The classrooms have been recently renovated and are kept clean. There is a good variety of age appropriate and safe toys in all of the classrooms. Security is well maintained with video monitoring, keypad access to facilities and fenced outdoor play areas. I love the phone application that they use for the secure check in and out procedure, as well as the photo updates throughout the day. Their Junior Kindergarten class is quite robust in its educational curriculum. The lead Junior Kindergarten teacher has been teaching young students for over 20 years, I believe. I'm honestly impressed at the progress my four year old has made behaviorally and educationally. They also have done a great job at offering events throughout the year. Kids Christmas program, picture days, Easter egg hunts, "pumpkin patch" etc. I couldn't recommend the Orchards more.

Our experience with this daycare was extremely concerning and unfortunately very short-lived…read more Within the first week (my child only attended four days), there were multiple safety incidents involving classroom doors that children were able to open. On the second day, I received a call that my child had opened the classroom door and exited into the hallway. Staff told me they were changing a diaper and didn't notice right away. Thankfully he was found quickly and had only made it to the first lobby door. When I picked him up shortly after, a staff member told me he had attempted to open the door several times within about 15 minutes. I asked what I could do to help prevent this from happening again and was told there was nothing needed from me and that staff would just remain on "high alert." I was also told that the center had discussed changing the door handles before but had not done so. A few days later, I received another call that my child had exited the classroom again while the class was cleaning up and only one teacher was present because the other teacher was on break. Earlier that same day there was also an incident where the children were outside playing and my child was able to walk to another classroom door and open it before being redirected. During the phone call about the second incident, the director stated that while they could redirect behaviors like not wanting to sit during circle time or meals, my child opening doors was "too much" for them to handle. She suggested we find another childcare provider and recommended a home daycare where there would be more one-on-one attention. This was confusing because the class only had about six students. What was frustrating is that all of the behaviors they raised concerns about were things we **fully disclosed during the tour before enrolling**. We explained that our child had never been in daycare before, does not talk yet, does not always follow verbal commands, and had recently discovered how to open doors. At the time we were reassured these were common toddler behaviors and that staff would redirect and work with him. There were also inconsistencies in the information we received. During pickup after the second incident, one teacher told me the situation happened while he was in her care, while earlier the director had told us a different teacher was responsible at the time. We were also told about an additional door incident that day but never received an incident report for it. I completely understand that teachers are responsible for supervising multiple children and cannot focus all of their attention on one child. However, when staff acknowledge that doors are not childproof and a child is able to open them multiple times within only a few days of attendance, that raises serious concerns about safety and preventative measures. Ultimately, we were advised by the director to find another childcare provider. We will be doing that and hope to find a program that is more willing to work with toddlers who are adjusting to their first daycare experience.

AND HAD THE WORST EXPERIENCE THERE NOT TO MENTION SHE WAS ONLY THERE FOR 2 DAYS! *DAY THAT HAPPENED* Around the month of january i enrolled my daughter into this daycare. Thinking it was a good fit since it was 5 minutes away from my house and i worked from 530am till 230pm in tukwila. They took her in around 440am. I took her to the in home daycare and dropped her off with a much older lady who i believe is the mother of the one who runs the big daycare on james street. Because she mentioned to me that is her mother. All of my paper work was right next to the signing in and out binder. I remember clearly having my daughter with all her hair up as a bun before i dropped her off to this lady. And ofcourse its her second day of daycare and she cryed for me. So i laid her on those kids fold beds they have in the rooms. And the lady told me to go because my daughter started crying. So i signed out and left. This time it was just them two in the home i believe!. So after work i came to pick her up around 245 pm and by this time 2 younger ladys where working there. The older lady was gone. So they gave me my daughter all ready with her backpack. Her hair in a bun BUT with her bangs down. I always put all her hair up because they were kinda long and needed some trimming.Anyways, No shoes so i had to carry her to the car. And when i got home my mother came a little after and gave her a kiss on the forehead which she lifted her bangs and saw a dry cut from that same day and we noticed on the same side of that cut she was limping while she walked.! She had a small bruise on her side and i just couldn't believe it! I felt as if someone hurt my child in that daycare ! I called the daycare and the daughter answered saying she doesnt know anything and she was going to call her mother and ask her about it. And she was going to give me a call back. They didnt! I took her to the hospital the same day and got her checked and x-rayed on her limping leg! The doctors heard my daughter saying "owee" because her leg hurted wen u touched it. THANK GOD SHE WAS OKAY.the next day i had called the lady again and i told her i was gunna go speak with her mother personally about my daughter. So she told me to go ahead. So as soon as i was parking my car, the daughter called me again and said something did happen. That my daughter had fallen off the bed beacuse she threw herself back when she was crying for me and her mom had forgotten to leave the "incident report"(Which till this day i have not seen) with the other 2 ladys that where there after. So i just started crying and just went to make a police report. I was not gunna take a fake written incident report that might of been done on my way there!. I did what in my heart was right!. They have NO cameras ! It was in investigation and i receieved a phone call about a month later from a lady asking about my daughters incident because she was investigating it as well and she asked me if i ever seen or recieved and incident report. So i told her no because i never have seen a incident report nor ever seen how one looks like! She said it was kinda weird because the police didn't receive one as well.! *Weird* I am just very FURIOUS! About this! Nothing has been done! And there exuse for cameras is that there working on it.. like really? How long have you been in business??? Till this day my daughter doesnt like stepping into chuckie cheese and being around so many kids! She feels as if ima just leave her.**PLEASE PARENTS BEWARE AND LOOK OUT FOR YOUR KIDS AND THERE ACTIONS AFTER DAYCARE!**.

Our son is in the 'Dippers' class, and his teacher, Ms. Melissa and assistant teacher, Ms. Bella, are amazing. There are stations setup each morning with age appropriate and engaging activities (water play, sand play, Mr. Potato Head, etc.) which our son loves! There's music class every Monday and Thursday, an amazing outdoor play space on acreage, and nutritious, diverse meals served. Emotionally - Ms. Melissa and the staff helped reinforce preparing our son for the arrival of his baby brother by talking about being a 'big brother' and reinforcing our son's role in our family. It made the transition of bringing baby home more exciting than nerve racking. Above and beyond a typical school experience in my opinion. Operationally - SCS also has many less closure days than some of the schools my friends kiddos go to in the area, so much more predictable for work schedules. It did take us a little over 7-months to get off the wait list, but Ms. Kelly (assistant director) was awesome at helping us plan for a reasonable date to possibly join. I cannot say enough positive things about this school, the faculty, the activities, the food, and overall experience. Highly recommend to any families looking for a long-term 'home' for their kiddos.

Watching his growth over these past few months has been amazing, and we owe so much of that to the wonderful, caring staff. When he first started, it was a big transition--he had been home with me since birth, and adjusting to a new environment and new caregivers was tough. He cried a lot and had trouble napping at first. But the staff was so patient and gentle with him through it all. Their support and consistency helped him feel safe and loved, and it made all the difference. Now, he's excited to go to school--he even runs into the classroom and forgets to say goodbye! As a parent, there's nothing better than knowing your child feels happy, secure, and cared for. Thank you to everyone at Bright Horizons at Longacres for helping him grow into such a confident little person. We are so grateful.

If you look at the staff picture wall by the entrance only a handful of teachers have been there longer than a year. We also noticed that staff can be very stressed at times due to being shuffled around from class to class. We finally left (intending it to be temporary) due to our second child being born. Our son had his pictures taken right before we gave our notice and requested to purchase it as well but we never heard back after multiple attempts. TL:DR Depending on the teacher that you have your experience can vary by a lot. If management can do a better job with keeping the staff less stressed/happy I don't think we would hesitate with coming back.

She is learning things, making friends, talking about her day with excitement, talking about her friends, and the activities she did. The staff, from the director to the teachers, are responsive and detail-oriented. I receive weekly update on the learning plan and menu. Before the pandemic, there were several events where parents can get involved, for some you can meet other parents. Now that we are in the pandemic, they have cancelled all the in-person events for parents and established stricter protocols in the center regarding drop-off and pick-ups, and parents cannot go pass the front desk anymore. I am actually fine with the protocols as long as they can keep the virus at bay, and they have. In conclusion, I would recommend this center to any parents! The hard lesson I learned during the pandemic is that a reliable daycare is absolutely key to the parents. Parents not only need time to work, they also need to know their kids are safe. Bright Horizons at the Highlands, has exceeded my expectation so far!

I'm sure they have a lot of behind the scene activities that is parents don't account for (personnel shortages/schedule changes, facility issues, parent and children concerns, etc) I think they are good people who generally care about our kids and their well being. I went through a life altering event in my life and they were supportive. Latest drop off is at 930am unless you let them know ahead of time. They stop serving breakfast at 830 as well. They are friendly and I enjoy their parent-kid interactions -pie day, graduation day, tea party. It is on the pricey side. For preschooler-age, it's over $1600/mo. Sometimes it can be short staffed and they'll let you know if you need to pick up your kid earlier. They have an app and you can see what they're doing. Sometimes I get photos in the app where my kid isn't in the picture. When they are busy, sometimes I don't get any pictures which is understandable. I want them to focus on what's really important. Also the app lets parents send email and communicate to the director and teachers. I was disappointed that I wasn't able to get a conference in the school year. They were so busy with the end of year party that I had to make sure that I had everything packed before leaving. I liked that the teachers use white boards/paper. Let's do one better and have the kids take turns going up and presenting. I think they already do that for days of the week, etc. Overall, decent place. Daycare isn't easy and they try hard to improve their image. I know they have had rough reviews but not sure how truthful they are. Ms. Cynthia is great! She's so sweet and friendly and patient when I'm late picking up my little one. Also, Ms. Maria too! She may not bubbly but she teaches stuff and now my kid knows Spanish because of her.
