I've been to Krakus twice so far, both times the orders were to go. The to go staff was polite and the food was delicious. The first visit, we ordered way too much food, as we weren't familiar with how generous the portions were. The Polish Platter comes with Kielbasa, Stuffed Cabbage, potato pancakes, pierogis, and warm sauerkraut that also has chicken and kielbasa included. That alone is usually enough for two people. The beef goulash was tasty, came with mashed potatoes, but was a bit salty. For the subsequent order, we just got a single Polish Platter to split between the two of us and an order of cheese blintzes. Everything was easily an 8/10, save for the goulash. Krakus will definitely be part of our regular takeout rotation moving forward, and I'd definitely recommend them. read more

We arrived at 8:30 and they close at 9 and they were so nice. We ordered 4 dishes and they each came out quickly, were hot thru and thru so I think they finished them all just for us. The potato pancakes were nice sized, six to the plate and split even to the three of us. The kielbasa over sauerkraut was delicious. The kraut was almost sweet tasting. The chicken cutlets were crispy on the outside and soft and hot in the middle, and plenty big. The big hit was the cheese stuffed fried chicken [Chicken Devolay] . Breaded and crispy fried chicken cutlet wrapped around cheese. When you cut it open the cheese just poured out and made a fantastic dipping sauce. So much so we each used it as a dipping sauce for the chicken cutlet after the Devolay was all gone. More people need to go to this place. It is awesome for some feels like home cooking. read more

Ummm....what just happened to us? Just...what? Were we just in a scene of the Polish Sopranos eating here? Highly probable. Krakus was recommended to us by somebody Polish, and in honor of both of our Polish grandmothers, we decided to go for an early dinner while running some errands in NJ. Oh, but first we went to the Krakus supermarket, which is only half a mile away, and stocked up on plenty of goodies there. Prices are fair and the products are fresh from the motherland! But back to the restaurant. To our fellow Yelpers complaining about the dated decor: that is precisely what makes this place so insanely amazing! It's like you've stepped into a banquet hall in the middle of Warsaw in the 1980s...with a couple folding tables tossed in. C'mon it's amazing! Here's the scene when we walk in: three guys at a big table surrounded by a bunch of beers with almost a finished bottle of vodka; an elderly couple; a bunch of younguns hanging out. Pretty soon it was just us though. Service is terrible, straight up. The guy who was working genuinely looked like he loathed us at first glance and barely spoke two words to us while taking our order, which he managed to mess up. No matter! It was oddly part of the charm of this whole experience, and honestly, once the food came out, we were in such heaven that nothing could have bothered us. We started two cold Polish beers along with the chicken soup, which is exactly like grandma would make with a deep golden color--simple with noodles, carrots, and parsley, but tasted like home. We heard heavy banging in the kitchen that practically shook the dining room, and sure enough our pork cutlets came out soon after. Pounded to order! We ordered a single, but he gave us a double, and they were unsurprisingly perfect since the meat was tender and the exterior was crispy. So good, as were the mashed potatoes that they were served with. The veggie plate had the greatest vegetable salad hits: beets, slaw, etc. We enjoyed it as a palate cleanser, but it was nothing to rave about...like the Polish platter, which had all you ever wanted on an Eastern European plate and more. Stuffed cabbage! Kielbasa! Potato Pancakes! Everything was just so homemade and so wonderful. It was a ton of food but we had plenty of leftovers to bring home. We skipped dessert because it was only apple cake and we needed a bit of a breather after all the heaviness. While this place is really more 4.5 stars because of the service (the bill itself is in Polish, but we saw that we were still charged for the wrong cutler order), we're rounding up to 5 stars because it was truly such a special experience. We'd almost be nervous going again because a second time around might not ever live up to the first. read more

Been visiting Krakus several times a year over the last ten years. We've always enjoyed the food and service. This past weekend we enjoyed two old school Polish standards Stuffed Cabbage and Pot Roast, both meals were prepared to perfection!!! And served hot, perfect for the cooler days. In addition to our entrees we first enjoyed two bowls of soup of which all are homemade in the traditional Polish style. We ordered the Mushroom Lentil Soup and The European Delicacy "Tripe Soup!" The soup course was served in large bowls with plenty of fresh rye bread and real butter. To complement the meal we ordered the Salad Platter which is the best way to taste and enjoy four of the "must have table accouterments" included in the platter are Pickled Cucumber Salad, Red Cabbage Salad, Coleslaw and Polish Carrot Salad. All were delicious! The restaurant is located at the corner of a residential neighborhood street with the entrance just in from the corner. There is an adjacent lot and on street parking. read more

First time in a Polish restaurant. In a heavily Polish town, Krakus offers their homey filling meals. Parking is next door, street parking is difficult. Upon entering, it felt like going into someone's basement hall with a wet bar and DJ booth. Just added to the flavor. Thumping Euro Disco track was a bonus. We were all bopping along during the meal. Our waitress, Diana, was a pisser. Bit older, but cracked many jokes and busted my son's chops plenty. I love wait staff with personalities. Food wise, we got the Polish platter which had potato pancakes, piergies, sausage, saurkraut, stuffed cabbage; basically food enough for two adults, as well as Beef Goulash/mash potato and a mixed plate of piergies that Diana made up for us since we couldnt choose. Beet soup with dumplings was filling and interesting, sweeter than imagined. Even with 4 hungry people, we couldn't finish just 3 entres and had to doggie bag the rest. Got the Polish beer (dark and light), both tasty and reasonably priced. Will definately come back, and will order less. Unfortunately, waitress didn't smile, didn't check on us at all once our food was delivered to the table, didn't refill our water glasses, couldn't be found when we wanted to pay and leave. Decor was dated. Printed menu is terrible: just a long list of two-word titles: "pot roast" "Polish plater" etc. No descriptions. This necessitated lots of questions to the waitress, which she was loath to answer. Fortunately, once the food came out, it was plentiful and well presented but it would have been nice to know what was included with each dish when we were trying to decide what to order, instead of leaving us wondering what mystery food would be delivered to the table. read more

Well where do i start!!! I think the name KRAKUS reminds me of the movie KRUMPUS and then funeral repast on the outside kinda did it. So i choose to have dinner. Cabbage soup was not bad, loved the potatoe cheese pierogi, the polish was good. And potatoe pancakes taste like flat extra fried tator totts. My dinner was cut very short, i lost my appetite. The young lady/server held a very long conversation with a guest 5 feet from me, and they were talking about medical procedures. I was very disgusted and could no longer eat. I paid 26.00 for food i could no longer enjoy. Be careful when ordering because i assumed that when they ask what kind soup it came with my dinner order...i was wrong i paid for this mistake. And i asked to taste sourkraute, which was explained to me comes with order, but is extra fee. Anyway! What a tasty treat! We went for a birthday dinner and couldn't believe how delicious everything was. We started off with stuffed cabbage and the cheese and potato pierogis...sooooo good, just an entire home made feel. The mushroom soup, oh my. Contained soft lentils and such a creamy mushroom taste. i'm very surprised that this place has a 4 star rating. I work in this polish town and there is definitely better polish food served in this town. The food was just ok. We tried the pierogies, beet soup, stuffed cabbaged, and chicken cutlet sandwich. Nothing was spectacular. Also, it was $3 for a soda which was flat and gross. There was a bug on the napkin, and the service wasnt that great. The waitress seemed annoyed that we wanted to put two amounts on a credit card. It's a shame that we didnt have a good experience b/c its so close to our job, and we would have came more often. The decor was also outdated. Despite a mishap with breaking a glass and spilling iced tea everywhere, our server was nothing less than professional the entire time. She quickly sat us at a different table as if nothing happened. She never left our table without saying 'thank you' or 'you're welcome' depending on what was said. Their menu has many home-made polish soups such as Barley Mushroom, Kapusta (Sauerkraut) soup and my all time favorite, Beet Borscht. They have many authentic polish main meals but my favorite is the Polish Platter which consists of Stuufed Cabbage (Golumpki), Potatio Pancakes, Polish Hunters Stew ( Kielbasi, mushrooms and kraut) and some peirogi's. Krakus is my first Polish cuisine experience, and I think it could've been better. I like Polish cuisine in general, but this can't be the best one around Bergen County. My boyfriend's dad is Polish, and he said this one is the most authentic one around. When we came, it was all empty and we were the only customers. The waitress (look like a young high school girl) was wearing sweater and jeans, but quickly changed into her uniforms after she seated us. Best part of going recently was watching my 3-year old prove you could drink/eat an entire (big) bowl of chicken noodle soup through a straw. Besides that - the place was clean and busy which is a good sign. The food? I got the 'Polish Platter' and some of it was good and some not-as-good.
